Chapter 6: Discharged *** Several days after the event, Jayden signed his discharge papers but noticed something strange… “Excuse me… I don’t remember paying anything but here it’s written…” Jayden was confused as he asked the receptionist. “A young man paid it for you.” The receptionist explained. “Their name was Zack Gradstein.” She read the name out. Instantly realizing the kid he met yesterday paid for him made Jayden feel unbelievably bad. ‘I should return the money to the kid…’ He thought to himself, even though initially he had no intention of ever meeting the kid again, he didn’t want to burden him either. It was a debt that needed to be paid. But first Jayden had to go back to his house… * * * ‘Hopefully Anthony’s already packed all his things and left…’ Jayden thought to himself, it was a sad thing to break it off with your lover but he knew it was the right thing to do. After all what is a love that’s faded really worth? If they both no longer felt the same they did before then there really was no reason for them to continue seeing each other. It would only cause more harm than good for them. He went back to his house only to see the lock has changed. ‘This can’t be happening…’ Jayden thought to himself as he tried all his keys but none of them worked. There was no doubt about it, Anthony had changed the locks and now Jayden can’t even enter his own home. “f**k…” Jayden took out his phone and began calling his ex lover. He didn’t pick up but Jayden continued calling persistently until after the 13th time finally the man on the other end of the call answered him. “What do you want?” Anthony asked with an obviously annoyed voice. He was irritated because the other wouldn’t stop calling him. “What I want is to enter my own home. What right do you have to change the locks and kick me out?!” Jayden was even more irritated than the other man. “Actually… If you don’t remember, I’m the one written as the owner of the home. So isn’t it only fair for you to be the one out of it?” Anthony asked with a cheeky voice. ‘For f**k’s sake…’ Jayden cursed in his own mind. He remembered the time they had bought the house, even though it was all Jayden’s money he had signed it under Anthony’s name because he was old enough to be on the lease. They bought the house with Jayden’s late grandmother’s money that he was left with after she had passed away. “I’ll leave your stuff outside in the garden for you to pick up when you get your own place.” Anthony said with a clearly superior voice, he was feeling better after the break up. “You damn-” Before Jayden could utter another word the man ended the call on him. It was a helpless situation, Jayden didn’t really have anywhere else to go. His parents wouldn’t accept him and he didn’t even have friends to rely on in such a difficult situation. ‘Could I just stay at the office?’ Jayden thought to himself but quickly dismissed the thought, he didn’t even have his suit and ties with him. How could he possibly show in his office and explain what happened looking the way he did? “This is such a mess…” Jayden muttered to himself as he decided to go and stay at a nearby café. Even though he didn’t have his wallet with him, at least he had his phone which he could use to pay for anything he needed. One of the good things was that Jayden didn’t struggle for money, yes his job was in fact exhausting and his personal life even more so. However at the far least now he had enough money to comfortably continue living on. However that wouldn’t be the case if the had to go to a hotel or rent out a place. Then he would be spending far more than he usually would and money would be basically flying off his hands at that point. At the café the man went to the counter and ordered a medium cappuccino which was one of the few coffee drinks he could consume. Jayden really hated the taste of coffee but drank it regardless to keep his energy up. “Oh, hello! You’re the man from the hospital!” Zack spoke as he stood behind the counter, he worked as a barista there. “Hello, Zack… I had no idea you worked here…” Jayden said as he felt like burring himself deep underground. Out of all the people he knew he didn’t want any of them to see him in this pitiful state of him. “I’ll make your order right away! You can go sit on a table if you’d like, I’ll bring it to you.” Zack said with a bright smile as he got to work… ‘How on earth did I end up in the café this guy works at?!’ Jayden wondered to himself but somehow found it convenient as well. Now he would be able to return the student’s money that was given towards his medical bills. After about a minute or two the drink was ready and served to the man. “Here it is!” Zack said as he also sat down on the same table as the elder man…
