Chapter 13: Past (3)

“This is all I know Young Master… It’s what I’ve been taught from a young age: To never show weakness in front of others. In that sense I have truly failed.” Lynn said in a calm voice, he remembered all his parent’s teachings, all the organization’s teachings. This was the lowest point in all his years as a bodyguard…
“Who said you have to abide by those rules?! Haven’t I told you hundreds of times already that we are equals! So show it to me! Be it weakness of anything else! I’ll gladly see it, there is nothing to be ashamed about!” Ken said in a powerful voice that did not suit a boy his age. He seemed much more mature and wise yet he reacted based on his emotions, which is a typically childish trait.
“Master…” Lynn understood the other’s words however the things he had previously learned aren’t that easy to just throw aside.
“Stop acting like you’re still a part of the organization. You don’t need to do things their way anymore… You can do whatever you want to.” Ken said as he pulled the other in for a hug.
‘I can do whatever I want to…’ Lynn wasn’t used to such a thing. He’d spend his entire life thinking that he was just fine while following someone else’s orders. Whether it be his parents, or his client’s orders… All he needed to do was exactly what he was told to. But after entering the Cunningham’s family, everything suddenly changed. This moment right now just continued to reaffirm the fact that he’s no longer the boy he once was.
“Lynn…” Ken said in a quiet voice, “Listen to me, I don’t need another bodyguard as long as you are here. But if you are so insistent on leaving then I’ll let you go.”
Those words struck the other in a harsh way. ‘Master is willing to let me go…’ It would be a lie for Lynn to say that he didn’t want the other to seek him. The truth was:
“Young Master, I vowed to remain next to you until you no longer need me. I have no other purpose…” Lynn said in a confident voice.
That’s it… After I was thrown away by my parents and taken in by Amanda. I finally found something I wanted to hold onto… Something I wasn’t willing to lose… Someone that I wanted to stay beside… And that someone is Ken Cunningham… If I don’t remain by his side and protect him, my life has no purpose…
What Lynn felt seemed to be a strong sense of loyalty but that wasn’t all there was to it… Along with that, he also held love for the man that was embracing him…
Undying loyalty and love, those two feelings combined were stronger than anything…
“I’m glad… because I also-” Ken’s words were suddenly cut off by a loud sound coming from outside their room. “What was that?”
Lynn’s eyes widened, “Auntie might be in trouble.” He quickly moved towards the door and looked around, there was smoke everywhere. “Master please stay next to me, hold onto my hand.” Lynn said with a strong voice as he gave his hand to the other.
Ken obediently followed the other’s instructions.
As both of them went to see what happened, through the thick smoke all they could do was listen to try and determine what’s happening.
“Kids stay back!” Amanda yelled, right afterwards a sound of something hitting the ground could be heard.
“Auntie…” Lynn muttered to himself, he knew the woman was capable of protecting herself and that Albert would also be there next to her. It took him a split second too long to think things over, since the moment he turned; Ken was pulled away from him.
“Master!” Lynn yelled and pulled the student back to himself. He caught the hand that had been holding onto the other and pushed the man to the ground.
All of it happened in no more than several seconds, the smoke was finally clearing up and Lynn had more visibility. ‘He has a knife.’ The student quickly noticed as the man swung it towards him. Lynn used his free hand to catch the elder man’s arm and bend it in an unnatural way.
“Drop your weapon.” Lynn said in a calm voice, however the man was persistent and held onto the knife with a stronger grip, he gritted his teeth from the pain of having his arm bent but still didn’t let go.
“I said, drop it! Unless you want your arm broken!” Lynn ordered and forced the man’s arm even further. Finally the man gave in and dropped the knife.
Ken quickly picked up the knife and observed it. There were various symbols that he found familiar. “Hm…”
The smoke that was thrown in for a distraction was now almost fully gone, everyone seemed to be alright.
“My babies!” Amanda said after seeing the two students.
“Are you both alright?” Albert asked as he held onto his wife, he was protecting her the entire time.
“We’re fine… Lynn if you will.” Ken said calmly while turning to the student holding the man down.
“Yes, Master.” Lynn replied and knocked out the man he was holding, then quickly taped his arms and legs soon afterwards.
“This is so troublesome…” Albert said as he looked down at the unconscious man.
“You might want to look at this mom…” Ken said as he showed the knife to the woman.
Amanda’s eyes widened. “Why would this be here?” She instantly recognized the knife. Those unique carvings belonged to no other than…
