CHAPTER THREE

After I got married to Robert back then, he was the cause of the death of my brothers and father. All my inheritance, he took it for himself.' "What's wrong little sister? Did anyone bully you?" Bryan asked her with a worried look on his face but Layla just shook her head and wiped her tears. "I just missed you, Bryan. Let's go home." She smiled and walked into the car. Bryan stood there, still confused but he entered the car anyway and drove out of the school. Layla was quiet all through the drive home. She was looking outside, appreciating the view she hadn't seen in years. Bryan wanted to ask her a question but he didn't. Immediately they got home, Layla stepped out of the car to go look for her mother who was inside the house. Bryan noticed something seemed wrong but as he did earlier, he kept quiet. He just thought maybe she was missing their father's presence. "Mother." Layla threw herself into her mother's arms and tried her best not to cry but she couldn't help it. She had missed her a lot after all these years. "Oh, sweetheart. What's wrong?" Her mother looked at her teary eyes and wiped them. "Did my baby get bullied again?" "No." She smiled and hugged her mother again. "I just missed you." "But you saw me this morning sweetheart." Her mother chuckled and patted her hair gently. "How was your first day of school dear? It's your last year in high school." "The first day was great, Mother." Layla smiled sweetly and looked at Bryan who stood at the door with his hands in his pockets. "I made something for you to eat before I go to work. Be a good girl and yeah, these are your cards. Your monthly allowance is there already." Her mother, Bethany kissed her cheeks before walking towards her room. Layla walked up the stairs to her room after her mother returned to hers. The room described her personality. The room wasn't really big but it was beautiful. She had a quick shower and changed into a plain gown. Layla looked into her wardrobe which had everything a nerd girl would have. 'To use my second chance well, I can't continue being a nerd. I have to change these things.' In two minutes, all the clothes in the wardrobe were packed in a box and she picked up her phone and cards. "Bro, can you please take me to the boutique? I need to get some clothes." Layla walked down the stairs and Bryan who was watching TV looked at her with a raised brow. "When did you start going to shop Ella?" He asked and she smiled before sitting at the dining table to eat the food her mother had prepared for her. 'Oh, how delicious this tastes. I've missed eating my mother's food. I missed her a lot back then when she died from cancer. I knew she had cancer for a long time but never told us about it. And I'm sure it was around this time she had that cancer.' The spoon with Layla dropped on the floor and Bryan looked at her alarmed. "What's wrong Ella?" He asked and she rushed into their mother's room. 'She had cancer around this time. And she went to the hospital a few days back if I'm not wrong and the doctor diagnosed her with cancer. The doctor didn't tell her she could still find a cure if she treated it quickly, which she later realized when she almost died.' "What's wrong Bella?" Her mother frowned when she saw her enter her room. Layla saw her put something under the pillow quickly as the door opened. "Mother….." "Let's go Layla. You asked me to take you out and I have to go somewhere. Come on, let's go." Bryan pulled her out of the room and took her out of the house. "Ella, you know Mother doesn't like us entering her room just like that. She could get mad at you." Layla didn't say a thing. She just walked towards the car and pulled the door open when she caught sight of the house next to theirs. 'Damien.' Bryan looked at her line of sight and saw her looking at the house that had been standing there for four years after the last owners left. They were very close neighbors for years before they disappeared without saying goodbye or the reason. 'Back then when we got here, Damien, my best friend used to live there. Although he was an alpha, he never treated me once like I was a beta at all.' 'Damien and I started middle school together but he suddenly disappeared with his family after summer break four years ago. He had been my crush since the beginning of that summer break and I was going to tell him when they disappeared, without saying any goodbye. I cried and cried for days but nothing happened. They never came back to that house. If I'm not wrong, the agents would come to sell the house tomorrow and he'll arrive tomorrow.'
