All heads were turned toward the source of the voice. A frown settled on Layla's lips as she turned to look at who was none other than the current Miss Royalty whose streak hadn't been broken for two good years. The one and only, Lila with her two minions in tow.
Lila was the daughter of the Supreme Alpha's close friends and that made her influential because the Supreme Alpha took her as a daughter.
'It's her. You b***h, I promise to take revenge on you this life. After successfully getting her aim, she killed me. I hope you enjoy Robert in the future.'
"Queen Lila, it is Layla causing trouble." Kira bowed slightly but deep down she hated the so-called queen.
Lila looked up at Layla and popped the bubble that had settled on her lips. Immediately her eyes raked Layla from head to toe, a laugh escaped her lips.
"Oh Layla, did a clown tell you what to wear? It doesn't fit you. You look like someone who came to my doors to beg for my used clothes." Lila laughed. "I bet you borrowed the clothes because there's no way your mother could afford that after leaving your father…."
Out of nowhere, Layla hit Lila hard. The gum in her mouth flew off and got stuck on Kira's hair. Lila was stunned as she held the cheek Layla just hit.
"That was just a taste of it, Lila. Don't you ever talk about my family because yours isn't any better with your w***e of a mother?" Layla hissed making Lila furious.
"You b***h….."
"Don't even try it." A masculine voice drew everyone's attention and Lila's hand stopped mid-air. Everyone turned to look at the guy who stood not far from them, dressed all black with a hoodie on. An intoxicating smell filled Layla's senses and her wolf growled inside.
'Damien, my actual mate.'
"And who do you think you are?" Lila scoffed and he pulled off his hoodie making everyone gasp.
"Impossible."
"It's him."
'Years back when we were in year 7, Damien was the most popular kid in school. No one could ever forget him. He was the first year 7 student to win a championship in a basketball competition and to date, his picture is still in the school's hall and . Fame as proud of him back then.'
"What is going on here kids?" The principal walked into the hallway and stood next to Damien.
"Layla just hit Lila Mrs Graves." One of Lila's minions reported.
"Is that true Miss White?" The principal asked Layla who was about to shrug when Damien spoke up.
"She was just defending herself, Mrs Graves. Lila is the one at fault." Damien replied and Layla looked at him not surprised he would support her.
"Then Miss Lila you should apologize to Miss White." Mrs Graves said and Lila was stunned.
"I am Miss Royalty and I can't apologize to a peasant like her." Lila half yelled and Mrs Graves folded her arms across her chest and frowned.
"It's okay Miss Graves." Layla sighed and Lila fumed.
"Well, since everyone is here now. I believe most of you recognized Damien. He's back to school now and I hope you all will give him a warm welcome." Mrs Graves smiled sweetly before leaving.
"I'm still going to get you bitch." Lila frowned and walked away with her minions while Kira was busy whimpering over her hair which was messed up by the gum.
"Layla," Damien called and she looked in his direction before he walked towards her. "It's been a while bestie."
"Oh yeah, you could still call me your bestie. Well, welcome young man Ford. How were your four years of being away huh?" Layla frowned. Anger was visible in her expression and Damien couldn't help but sigh.
"Look, Layla….." The sound of the bell shut him up which Layla was thankful for because she knew so well that she was gonna break down right in front of him and cry.
She turned to leave immediately and Isabelle followed her. "Are you alright Layla ?"
"I'm fine."
"Are you going to basketball practice today? Mr Jones asked you to take today off classes because of your injury yesterday." Isabelle said as they walked into the class.
"I'm gonna go watch still," Layla mumbled as she sat down quietly.
"Class, welcome Damien. Damien welcome back to school. It's great to have you here. You can take your seat right next to Layla ." The teacher said.
"Why doesn't he come to sit next to me Miss? I'm a better desk mate and I'm willing to share." Lila smirked.
"Well since you're willing to share. Isabelle, I heard you don't like the seat you're in. Why not sit right next to Lila."
"No." Layla, Isabelle and Lila protested together.
"Let Isabelle sit with me Miss and let him sit in her seat," Layla suggested and the teacher nodded.
"Better." Lila exhaled as she sat comfortably on the seat meant to be shared by two students alone.
'I noticed something different about Damien today or could it be that it has been there and I didn't notice all along? I'm here to fix my mistake so I mustn't take this anger too far. I remembered back then sitting next to Lila was where it all started.'
"Miss White what was the last word I said?" The teacher asked and Layla coughed.
"I'm so sorry ma'am, I zoned out," Layla replied truthfully.
"Be careful next time Miss White or I won't have any choice but to kick you out of my class."
"I'm so sorry."
"So class before the end of this week, we'll be having tests. I won't tell you the exact day but be prepared."
"Have you jotted all the points she said, Isabelle?" Layla asked.
"Yes. I'll pass them to you after classes." Isabelle replied with her eyes focused on the board.
"Thanks." Layla sighed.
As soon as the bell rang for sports, the students returned to their locker rooms to change. Layla had changed her sporting wear earlier to show her new style of not being a nerd again.
"After what happened yesterday I hoped you would quit basketball, Layla . You should expect another hit from me today." Darius laughed mockingly at her.
"At least I wasn't the one who got slapped across the face." Layla hissed and Darius was about to say another word when he stopped looking at Damien who was gazing at him fiercely. He knew what to do and he immediately walked away. "What do you want Damien?"
"You didn't even need to turn to know I was there. Could it be that you were expecting me….."
"Cut it out, Damien. It's not going to work." Layla started walking away but he caught up to her and stood in front of her.
"I know you're mad at me Layla but it isn't my fault! I wanted to say goodbye but I couldn't. My mum took my phones away and I didn't have access to the internet for months. Any time I tried to reach you, my mum stopped me. You wouldn't even let me explain myself, would you?" Damien explained but she remained unmoved as she walked towards the basketball field. "What will I do for you to believe I would have contacted you if I had the chance?"
Layla stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him. She continued staring at him till she put her hair up in a bun and a smirk appeared on her lips.
"You want to know what right?" She raised a brow and he nodded. She looked past him and another smirk formed on her face before she walked away without saying another word.
"Layla?!"
