Inside the palace wasn’t what I thought.
The hall was cleared out so that there were only tables, a few seats and a bunch of women filling the space. Also, there were absolutely no male in sight except for the king himself who was seated at the top of the stairs and a few other guys who stood next to him, most likely his werewolf bodyguards. And contrary to what I expected, there wasn’t much food, they were only serving liquor around the back and handing out bits of some pinkish looking thing on a stick.
Are they feeding pigs and not people?!
Looking at the hall as it is, is this even a banquet? Could they have gathered us here for a m******e?!
Even so, my nosy self was still tempted to explore. If we weren’t allowed to wander, I could’ve still sneaked around, only problem was that my partner in crime, Stacy, was nowhere to be seen.
I got myself lost within the crowd the second we entered and we somehow managed to get separated. There were many women here which means I probably won’t find her if I tried. So now, I’m left alone with no one to keep me company.
I’m just gonna wait for the Prince to arrive and if he does find his mate among this vampire crowd like Stacy said, then I’ll leave as soon as I get a good look at her. I’ll imprint every single thing I see into my memory!
It seems impossible, yet I feel it could mean a major change in our lives if a vampire becomes the wife of a werewolf…the prince at that. I’ve never heard of anything but hatred between our species but one can only hope.
“I apologize for the delay.” A gruff voice surged through the crowd and my eyes quickly swept to the balcony, locking on the King. I glared. “Before we proceed, if you look to the floor, you’ll see a few white lines. I’m sure you’re all smart enough to get the message but I’ll say this just in case….If you cross over those lines whether you tripped or deliberately stepped over, I’m afraid you will be decapitated on spot, no question asked.” Despite the not-so-lovely words, he smiled down at us, his hand lifting to wave. The women quickly shuffled further away from the lines, tossing me back and forth with the crowd as they moved.
I can hardly move!
“Now, it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for! My son; Dexter will now be brought before you!”
The hall erupted with whispers and giggles, some even leaving their lucky seats and rushing up front so they could get unobstructed view.
Tsk. These girls are a disgrace to our species. It hurts my eyes to look at them.
But why the hell is that rotten Prince late to his own freaking party?
Sighing, I tore my gaze away from the King and pushed through the crowd, struggling to make it towards the back where all the liquor was being served. But as I crept closer to the table, I suddenly felt a cold shiver run up my spine.
A certain gaze met my figure, one so intense that I could feel it the moment it settled on me, just as I’d have felt a tap on the shoulder. Someone is staring…hard! But who? And why does this gaze feel so weir---
“Bingo.”
Another male voice echoed through the palace, this one different from the King’s. The person, whoever he was, had only said one word but I could sense the coldness lingering in his voice…. yet, it was alluring enough to manage to make me curious, curious as to who the voice belonged to.
Liquor now forgotten, I turned on my heel, my blue orbs shifting to survey each of the men at the top of the stairs. Seeing as there were no males amongst us women, and that voice obviously didn’t belong to the king, then it must’ve been one of his bodyguards, but I was confused as to which exactly it was. They were all positioned in a way where I could hardly see any of their faces, yet...I got the strange feeling that none of them was the one my eyes were searching for.
Then…who is it?
“I finally found you, mate.”
A whisper grazed my ears, fanning my skin and sending a shiver wracking up my spine. With just the touch of his breath, I could feel the tips of my ears tingle.
I twisted so fast that I almost tumbled over in my heels. Then, I was met with the sight of a man standing before me, the owner of the voice. With deep hazel eyes, perfectly sculpted jawline, luscious lips and messy strands of hair stylishly thrown over his forehead, he easily looked more marvelous than any I’d seen.
Once we made eye contact, I instantly felt as if I couldn’t look away. He was close, so close that his breath kept hitting my skin and making me shiver, but even then, I didn’t want to step nor look away.
What the hell?!
I know this face all too well from the countless pictures Stacy had shown me and I also know exactly what a man like him is capable of, so why…why am I staring so hard? Why do I feel like my chest is about to burst open at the sight of him?
Confused, I forced my eyes off him and dropped my head, quickly lowering my gaze to the floor. His leather shoes still remained in my vision for a few seconds before it was gone. I found myself too chicken to look up to see where he was going, fearing that I’d resume staring like an i***t if I did.
“Dexter, have you found her? The right one?” The King spoke up again from up front and I gave in to the temptation to look in his direction. He had gotten out of his seat with the Prince now standing by his side. I don’t know how that guy got up there so fast, but I had to summon every restraint not to shift my gaze towards him.
“Yes, Father.” I could feel his gaze burn into my head as he answered. “Red dress, blue heels and blue eyes. Everyone else leave, I have no need for you.”
