Our faces were covered with sacks, our hands tied behind us as they led us down the stairs and into a carriage. Ever since I came here, i had never been in a carriage before. It felt nice. Maybe nicer than even cars except that it was slightly unstable.
"Andrew?" I whispered, turning my head to the side even though I couldn't see anything. I could tell he was next to me though.
"Don't worry, I won't let that devil have his way. I'll get us out of here once I think of a plan, okay?"
Andrew didn't reply and I figured he might be mad at me for stepping in earlier. Hell, I was mad too!
I never would've imagined Andrew was involved in shady deals like this and with someone that seemed so dangerous he could take one's life like it was nothing.
I hated people like that. People who look down on the weak and think their lives don't matter.
Why? Because they have no power to resist. To fight for themselves. Just like me and Andrew and just like me again in the other world.
I managed to reach under my sleeves, retracting a knife from there which I used to cut the ropes holding my hands behind me.
The doors of the carriage were probably locked. Removing the sack from my face would make a lot of noise which would attract our captors so I decided to play it safe.
"Andrew?" I called him again and threw the knife in his direction. "You know what to do right?"
"Andrew?"
He didn't answer.
Something was off. I could feel it in my bones.
My eyes narrowed and I removed the sack from my face only to come face to face with... the devil.
A gasp escaped me and I jumped away to a far off corner.
"What? Did I screw your plan to escape?" he grinned.
"H-how did you get here? W-where is Andrew?"
My eyes popped out in shock when a thought hit me.
Did he kill him already?!
"Relax. Andrew is in the second carriage behind us."
A feeling of relief washed over me. He was not dead then.
"Then why am I here?"
"I just had a feeling..." he raised the knife I had passed earlier to my face, "that you might try to escape."
"You don't know me."
"The look in your eyes earlier told me a bit about you." he said. "You've done this alot right Miss Elora? Escaping?"
In a trance, I looked up at him. How was he able to know that?
"I'm sorry I don't know what you're talking about."
"I didn't expect you to admit it, Princess."
"I'm not your princess!"
"Right." he chuckled. "I can start calling you my Queen."
I scoffed in disbelief, staring at him.
Was he a psycho or something?
No. Even psychos were not this scary.
I secretly took a look around me. There was still a chance to escape but how about Andrew?
"Don't think about it."
My heart jumped when I heard him. How did he know?
"What are you going to do with us?" I asked.
He smiled then lowered his eyes as if he was trying to measure the distance between us. "Come closer and I will tell you."
I opened my mouth to say something but I could only squeal as he pulled me towards him.
My heart hammered in my chest as I looked up at his face from a very very close range.
Thump, thump, thump. It was beating wildly. So much that it almost hurt.
"For starters..." He raised my chin. "I should take you to my torture chamber."
Torture chamber? Why did it sound like he was talking about something else?
"We are here!" Someone announced and I panicked.
I couldn't let this man have his way. Who knows what he's going to do to me? I need to escape first and then I will find a way to save Andrew.
My eyes darted around and I held my breath. Surprisingly, the door was opened from my side and I didn't miss the opportunity to jump out.
I hit the guard on his face and jumped out before anyone could react.
I started to run but it all seemed strange so I stopped.
No one was chasing me.
In fact the other carriage arrived too and Andrew was let out. That was when I realized where they had brought us to.
It was our house.
Puzzled, I shared a glance with Andrew who just had his sack off his face.
The carriages started to leave and Andrew knelt when that man passed.
He had his window open. He was smiling at me as he passed. His smile left an unsettling feeling inside me as I stood there, dumbstruck.
What just happened? Didn't he say he would take me to his torture chamber? Why did he bring us home then? Does this mean he had forgotten everything?
I was afraid because it didn't seem so. Something was off. Something was so wrong about this.
"Elora? Andrew?" It was Mom's voice as she came out of the house, looking worried. "Who were those people? Did any of you get in trouble?"
"You should ask him" I pointed to Andrew and he glared at me.
"Actually Mother, they are just my friends."
"Friends? Andrew, I didn't know you had friends who were rich enough to drop you off in a carriage. Not just any carriage, that was..."
My eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
"Nothing." she chuckled awkwardly. "Forget I said that. Come inside and help me with the clothes."
"In a bit." I smiled and Mom went back inside.
The smile on my face disappeared when I glanced at Andrew. He swallowed hard and lowered his head. I dragged him by the ear to the back of the house where no one could hear us.
"Ah, are you trying to cut it off?!"
"It would be better if you don't have them!" I almost yelled. "Who were those people? You better spill everything! Or I can just go to Mother..."
"Wait, wait wait...." He stopped me. "I'll tell you."
We both took in a breath and I waited for him to start.
"Actually, I-I-" he swallowed. "I don't have a real job. I don't work at the school like everybody thinks."
"What do you do then?" I asked him even though I already knew the answer to that. "Are you a spy?"
He slowly nod his head and I drew in a breath.
"Who do you spy on?"
"I can't tell you, Elora. It's too dangerous. If they know that you know something, they will come for you."
"Like those men did today?" I asked. "They were going to kill you."
"But he didn't. Lord Cyrus is not like that."
"Cyrus? Is that the devil's name?"
"You need to watch how you speak about him. You speak recklessly with him when you don't know who he is."
"I know enough to know that he isn't done with you yet. Have you wondered why he let us go like this?"
"You cannot understand Lord Cyrus's ways of thinking. He is not like other people."
"So what? You think he believes you?"
Andrew became silent.
"I just want you to stay away from this. I know how to handle myself."
"Like hell I also want to be away from all of this. My concern is not for you, i***t. What do you think would happen to Mother if we suddenly found you beheaded on the streets?"
He lowered his head, finally understanding what I was talking about.
"Who is getting beheaded?" A low voice rang out and I jumped in shock, looking behind me to see her.
