It was almost dusk, Andrew had already sent invitations to the noble families in and outside the city. He wondered why he had suggested this ball to the lord, it was harder than it seemed especially when it was supposed to organized within few hours, knowing his lord, he knew he couldn’t afford to make a mistake. He had been walking non stop to make sure everything was in place. The cooks had prepared the food, and drinks, the servants were walking arranging the food on the table, because there were vampires going to present for the ball, jugs of blood were already arranged by some special and trusted servants. The jugs of blood were arranged on another table. Since the lord had forbidden any vampire from drinking directly from his people, the vampires had been drinking from jugs because they won’t even dare to disobey lord Alexander. For everyone in the continent knew how crazy and sick the king was. “Hey, place that over there”, Andrew called out to a male servant who was carrying a bowl of biscuits. “Everyone it is almost time, go prepare for the ball and be back here in the next twenty minutes, we have important guests and you know the lord doesn’t take disobedience lightly. Be in your best behavior”. Andrew said addressing the servants who stopped what they were doing to listen to the man. With that Andrew walking out of the ballroom, heading to the King’s chamber. He was about to place a knock on the door before he heard the voice of the lord. “Come in Andrew”. The man was so suspicious, with his strange characters. Andrew opened the door to meet his lord, resting on his chair, wearing black trousers and nothing more. “My lord, you aren’t prepared for the ball” “The ball...,oh I almost forgot Andrew, about the ball I am no longer interested in the ball, I would rather just go to the dungeon to play with my new prisoners”. The king said without looking at the man. Andrew’s jaw nearly dropped, he couldn’t believe what this man had just said. “What do you mean by not interested my lord? Everything has been arranged”. Andrew asked. “Are you questioning me Andrew?” Alex’s eyes moved to look at the man in front of him. “No..my lord. I won’t dare. I only meant what would happen to the people who we had sent the invitations to” Andrew said picking his words ever so carefully. Alexander stared at the mirror for a while before he turned to the man again. “We will continue the ball then. Not that I care about the people invited, it is just that my mood just got better, and my prisoners can wait till tomorrow”. Alexander said. “Okay my lord, I bought new clothes for you”. Andrew said, placing the clothes on the bed. “So thoughtful of you Andrew, thank you. I will be down in a moment”. Alexander said, Andrew bowed and left the room. Mariana had joined them in arranging the ball room, and the servants were back to their room preparing for the ball, Mariana just laid on her bed resting her aching body. “Get up Ari, Aren’t you going for the ball?” Rose said straightening her dress with her hand, she had worn another dress which was gifted to her by one of the market women. It was a blue long dress with long sleeves and a low neck line. Her ginger colored hair was packed in a bun. “Look at my dress isn’t lovely?” She said, as she spun around holding her dress. “It is indeed lovely, and no I do not Intend on attending the ball” Mariana said with a smile. “Oh. You are such a kill joy, I shall go and perhaps find my self a young charming lover”. Rose said with a wide smile. “Whatever Rose, keep dreaming and have a lovely time.” Mariana said adjusting herself on the bed. “Good bye, time to go”. Rose said as the bell rang indicating that it was almost time for the ball. The guests had began to arrive, the ladies dressed beautifully and the men dressed elegantly. Andrew stood by the door as he greeted every guest that walked in. Andrew had a blue fitted suit on, and matching shoes, his hair was trimmed and neatly styled. His eyes fell on Katherine and her father as they walked into the ball room. “Mr Derrick, lady Katherine Welcome” He said with a short bow. “Thank you Andrew,” they both said and walked into the room, Andrew followed them with his eyes, Katherine wore a red revealing dress, the dress was hugging all her curves, she wore matching shoes as she swayed her hips. Her hair was flowing down her shoulders and her face was painted with makeup and adored with heavy jewelries, people turned their hands as she walked past them. Feeling uncomfortable in her bed, she decided to take a walk to the kitchen to get herself a cup of water. Mariana climbed down from her bed and wore her shoes, and headed outside the room closing the door behind her. On getting to the kitchen, she heard whispers in the kitchen, she peeped her head through the small space of the door to look at who was in the kitchen.. “Put this in the king’s drink now”. The older woman said pulling a wrapped cloth from under her dress. “Okay Matilda, I will make sure to put it inside his drink and after that we would be paid big bags of gold”. The two women laughed evilly. Mariana immediately turned around to hide as she saw the two women coming out of the kitchen. Now Mariana was no longer thirsty, what she had heard and seen had filled her head and stomach. What was she going to do now? Surely she couldn’t let them poison the king. As much as she didn’t want to get involved with the royals, she just couldn’t ignore what she had just heard. With a deep breath, she made her way to the ballroom.
