Five years later...
Jamie was so happy today, she was meeting her friend Sasha Barre for lunch.
Sasha was her book publicist and confident.
She was getting ready to launch Jamie's second book in the series:The rebel lovers.
Jamie wrote anonymously as Jane Knight.
Her pen name was a nod to her parents.
Her mother Janet,
she had shortened to Jane.
She had chosen to honor her father Richard Knight by taking his last name.
Jane wrote the most beautiful romance novels. She always added a twist.
She usually wrote fantasy novels where the heroine had psychic abilities at finding her true love.
Five years ago she had been new to Vancouver Island. Settling here once she had landed off of the plane to Canada.
She was very sad and depressed.
She had lost a bit of weight and was not taking care of herself.
She didn't even cash the $500,000. check until she had ran out of resources.
She refused to get on social media fearful of seeing him there.
She yearned for Max.
About a year later she started writing her stories.
They were all fantasies about her and Max.
She was so broken at that time. Her stories, the books were all she had.
She had started by writing a few short stories and sent them into the Vancouver Island paper using her pen name, Jane Knight.
The paper got a huge public response from those stories.
It wasn't long before she was urged to contact an editor.
That was when she was introduced to her friend Sasha.
"You know he's going to ask about you, he does every time you have a book released."
Jamie wasn't interested in dating just yet.
She poured everything into her literature.
She had met Jeff Allen at his business enterprise, the Jeff Allen tower.
It was a well know sky scraper building in Vancouver.
Sasha had arranged for Jane Knight to have her first book signing there.
Jeff Allen, known as the billionaire, playboy by the press had been in awe of Jane knight. He saw how she had this commanding presence in a room full of her excited fans.
She had a regalness to her. She was like a member of the royal family.
Serene, calm, always polite and knew just how to put people at ease.
Her name had been whispered in society's circles. She was one of the most eligible bachelorettes on the island.
There was an air of mystery to her.
He had looked for opportunities to run into her after he had watched her in action at her first book signing.
He had pulled her friend Sasha aside,"What are these books all about anyway?"
Sasha laughed and put her thick hand on Jeff's suit sleeve."They are magical, she handed him a copy of:The rebel lovers and urged him to get it signed by Jane Knight.
He approached her at the table, he waited until he was last in line.
She looked up at him. She didn't even recognize him as the owner of the very building that she was having her event.
She smiled and the room lit up. He was totally lost in her charming allure. "So who should I sign it to?"
She asked with a twinkle in her eyes.
He raised a brow. "I guess- to Jeff, your most faithful servant."
She thought that was pretty corny, she patted his hand, "You're too kind."
She excused herself after signing all of the books. He noticed her curves, the gentle sway of her hips as she moved. The way she slowly walked away from him.
He didn't even realize she had left the building.
He wanted to get her alone.
Sasha packed up the books and cleaned up the tables.
Jeff approached her. He handed her his card.
He had written his personal number on it, it read: Call me ,Jeff.
Sasha promised to give it to Jane Knight for him. She was pretty sure Jamie would not be impressed by his one liner.
Maybe if she had been any other Canadian in the world, she would have swooned just to get his attention.
She added a little bit more to the card. It was lovely to meet you please Call me, Jeff.
When she got to Jamie's small coastal home, she brought her a coffee and a box of chocolates for a celebration on such a successful book signing.
Jamie was sitting out on her back deck, smelling the ocean air.
Now known as Jane Knight, she was writing when Sasha came over, she never knocked.
She knew that Jamie wanted her to feel comfortable and insisted that she make herself at home."Hey, that was amazing, you were absolutely amazing Miss Knight."
Jamie giggled. "I love it when you address me like the royalty that the press thinks I am."
Sasha had known Jamie's past. They had worked hard to keep it buried, deep in the past where it had belonged.
She sat the coffee and chocolate on the table." Ah, thank you my friend," said Jamie.
She was content there on her little back deck, seaguls cried as they flew by.
Sasha handed her the card. "What's this?"
Sasha said,"Only the most handsome man in Canada, Jeff Allen- billionaire extraordinaire."
Jamie shrunk down in her Adirondack chair, she put a pillow over her face.
Sasha read the note outloud, It was lovely to meet you please Call me, Jeff.
Jamie peeked out of her pillow. "Was he there?"
Sasha told her he was the last man in the line. "I guess I was too tired of being Jane Knight the regal queen to see him."
Sasha pulled a picture up of him on her web browser. Jamie nodded,"Not bad."
Sasha said,"Call him!"
Jamie said she might. knowing she wouldn't.
She was still fearful that people would find out that she was that nanny in the tabloids. She swallowed and sighed."It's hopless, I'm not normal," she said.
She thought of Max less and less, she had wondered if he was married with kids by now.
She shook her head, removed her glasses and wiped her eyes.
Time moved forward....
Today was the day, she was releasing her second book in the Rebel love series.
She dressed in a short black coctail dress. High heels, her now auburn hair up in a soft bun with curled trendles of hair loose and framing her face.
She was beautiful as a young woman in her 20's but as she grew into her thirties she had become absolutely gorgeous.
Her waist was slender, her breast were naturally full. She filled out her little dress very well.
She was sexy tonight. She wanted to dress special to sell her novel.
It was all a part of her plan and persona.
Jamie dressed in sweat pants and t-shirts at home. Jane Knight dressed to kill.
She walked out onto the stage. The crowd cheered.
She waved and told them to sit.
She spoke about her book and invited them to come forward for the book signing.
At the end of the line there was a young man. He handed her a box.
She smiled and thanked him. Her fans often gave her gifts. She opened it. It was a beautiful necklace, gold and sapphires.
She looked up, but the young man was gone. She saw a man walking towards her. She smiled, she knew who he was this time.
He jestured to the necklace. "Can I put it on you?"
She shook her head, no.Jamie pushed the box back over the table to him." Thanks, but no thank you." She snubbed him.
He never had a woman snub him before.
He wanted her in his bed now, more than ever.
He left the necklace on the table and walked out the door.
She was breathing hard, he seemed angry. Sasha came up seeing the interaction. "Jamie, how could you treat him like that, he's offering you the moon."
Jamie smiled."I don't need the moon, I need someone real. Not a fake person with hidden agendas."
Sasha held up the necklace." Are you sure?"
Jamie nodded. She had wanted to move on and to have a family. She just couldn't do it to Max.
She was angry now. She marched up to the bank of elevators heading to Jeff's office.
She was planning on telling him off once and for all.
When she got to the penthouse she knocked loudly on his door.
He came to the door in his sweat pants, he had changed out of his fancy suit, he looked, normal.
She lost some of her bluster. She handed him the necklace."Look, I don't know you, I can't take this." she handed him the box.
He smiled. She said," You've used this little trick before haven't you?"
He said he had. She smiled and he offered her a drink.
She accepted a glass of white wine. "I came to tell you off, but you look so sad up here in your little penthouse. "
He scoffed," Little?"
She giggled.
He saw her eyes light up.
She put out her hand, "Jamie, nice to meet you."
He looked at her sideways." I thought you were Jane Knight?"
She said,"only to my dearest fans."
He offered her dinner. She accepted this time.
This was the real Jeff, not the fake one. She was happy to have dinner with this Jeff.
