Jamie held Jeff's hand. "I have a past. I am here because of that past, it's painful for me to talk about.
Have you ever been pulled away from someone you loved dearly?
I was banished here, sent to Canada from my home town of Olympia, Washington."
She looked at the water, "five years ago, I made the news.
I was attacked by an ex boyfriend from college.
I wasn't hurt, just scared.
The young man that I had been living with, he bravely saved my life.
He was the son of the woman that I had agreed to nanny for. She had two younger boys. Max was 17 when I met him. I was 25. We were alone for long hours.
We all grew to love each other.
The tabloids made up a story about me grooming him and the other boys.
Forbidden love, the naughty nanny they called me.
The police came. They didn't charge me with anything.
There were lawyers and the threat of a lawsuit. They told me the boys would be dragged through it all. I was given a choice."
She stopped and scanned his face, looking for rejection.
She quickly looked away, not able to look him in his eyes.
She turned back to the ocean, the waves as they came rhythmically, her hot tears were steaming down her face.
"I would die before I let them get dragged through a trial, so what choice did I have? The other option was to take a pay off. I couldn't let those boys pay for my indiscretions.
They made me sign a a NDA (non disclosure agreement), they made me leave the country and took my phone away. I never saw him again,-Max," she sobbed, "that was his name. He loved me so much. I loved him.I suppose It was like a death to me really."
She clenched her hands. "So as the years went by, I became this other person. I created Jane Knight.Jane is everything that I could never be. She's strong, regal, she is confident."
She hit her fist on the table. "Look, I can't blame you for being with that beautiful woman at Sasha's wedding. I deserved that. I pushed you away."
She put her hands in her lap and wept as she looked down.
Jeff got down on one knee in the sand in front of her.
He took her hand and pulled her face up with his other hand.
He said, "I knew most of that, I don't care, nor do I believe it. Jamie, Jane or whatever you want to call yourself.
Marry me, be my wife.
I can protect you from your past and give you everything you ever wanted. If you want a new house by the ocean, I will buy it for you.
I made a mistake at the wedding, I fell into the same bad behaviors that I always have. She meant nothing to me.
I just put myself, my needs first. I was feeling horrible after that.
Jane, I have never felt this way about a woman ever before. I just want a fresh start.
You are perfect, beautiful. I don't want to change you. Just consider what we could be together.
If you need time and can't be...intimate with me, well I will wait. I don't want to lose you.
Marry me, please say you will be my wife, I won't ever hurt you again."
Jamie was shocked that he had known her deepest secret and still wanted to marry her.
She nodded at his acceptance of her.
He knew everything. She smiled, feeling a release now.
She nodded and agreed then. "Yes, it's time for me to let it all go and move on, I need this, we need this. I will make you a good wife-I think."
He leaned over and kissed her on the lips. She smiled. She was putting all of the hurt behind her.
Jeff accepted her. She needed that. The only other one that knew the truth was Sasha. Jamie stood up then. She walked back to Jeff's car with him.
The driver opened the door for her, he nodded at her.
She must look a mess, tears dried on her face, eyes swollen and red. Jeff handed her a handkerchief from his pocket. She wiped her tears away, took a deep breath and got into her fiance's car.
Two months later....
"Sasha, Jeff is coming by today, we're going to look at venues for the wedding. Do you think I should wear dress shoes, or heels?"
Jamie had become the persona Jane Knight. She no longer went by the name Jamie.
She had legally changed her name to prepare for the marriage.
Jeff thought it would be best for the marriage certificate.
She turned the page in her book of life and became Jane.
She was the talk of the town, the one who caught Jeff Allen.
She was careful in interviews to always be dressed impeccably. She wore designer clothing now.
Jeff gave her his black carte blanc credit card. She was encouraged to attend social events and her novels were rising to the number one best seller list.
She had offers to go to the American market, she declined them all. She would never go back. It was all a fairy tale.
There were long days and nights planning the extravagant wedding. She declined his offer to move her into the penthouse.
She was a little nervous to live with him. She understandably wanted to avoid all occasions of gossip.
It was her worst nightmare. Jane Knight had built a brand, she was invited by Jeff to create her own revenue stream by marketing her persona.
Her fans could buy a Jane Knight table cloth, or set of dinner plates.
She chose patterns that would be considered for royalty.
She was gaining in popularity. Jeff was pleased with her ambition. They made a great team.
Jeff gave Jane the space she needed. He tried to abstain.
He would settle for kisses and heavy petting.
She said she didn't want any scandals before the wedding. He understood.
He used discretion when he had moments of weakness, he never used the same girl twice.
He didn't want a relationship with them, just s*x. He was a man after all.
Jane was worth the wait, no need to force her.
He was certain that he would throughly enjoy his wedding night when that day finally arrived.
