Chapter 32 - Giselle
“What is wrong with her?”
Like Owen, I wondered the same thing, climbing the small steps into the Pack's house before the smell of something sweet that Alpha Magnolia must be baking in the kitchen distracted me from realizing that Alpha Dylan was also there.
... Another unusual thing about that day...
Our Alpha and his Mate were always seen together most of the time when he wasn't helping with some training or other Pack's issue.
However, we all knew that it wouldn't happen during the mornings only, as Alpha Magnolia would always find something for him to do here or outside, leaving her alone in the kitchen until lunchtime...
Or even past it as the list could be so long sometimes that most wolves who were killing time around here would immediately run back to their houses when they saw him with the piece of paper in his hands.
... Few were the ones who ended up offering themselves to help without needing to hear it was an order from their Alpha. That option had occurred with more frequency than one could think, often when the teenagers chose to meet here after school, and even Rony had helped a couple of times like this…
“Good morning, Alphas.”
Interrupting their moment, I couldn't think of anything else to say to them besides this, even though it was almost lunchtime right now...
I had tried to get up early so I could return as soon as possible.
However, my plans didn't work out exactly as I wanted them to since we arrived very late back at Noah's house, making both him and Ria say that I shouldn't leave in the middle of the night, which my tired body soon agreed with them as I even lose the time today.
“Elle, sweet! What a good surprise!”
But back to the Pack's house... Instead of questions and complaints, Alpha Magnolia greeted me with a warm smile before she held my face in her hands, kissing my cheeks to soon scanned me from head to toe, looking for something that might be wrong with me.
"I'm sorry I forgot to let you two know I would stay with Noah and Ria for a few days." Smiling back at her, I let my eyes meet theirs, showing the sincerity of my words to the two people who were so important to me.
"Please don't do that again, Sweetheart. You almost sent both of us and your entire family to the hospital because we didn't know where you were or if anything had happened to you, young lady!"
"Magnolia is right, Giselle. Don't forget to let us know ahead of time when you need some time alone the next time, instead of just disappearing from the Pack like this. It's just not like you to do something so reckless like that."
Reckless really had been the best word Alpha Dylan could have used to scold me without being too harsh about it, bringing up the reality of how my actions had been anything but usual lately.
It wasn't like me to do things like that, and honestly? Even I had trouble understanding what I had been doing lately since the first day of the Full Moon this month…
… Since the night, it was too hard to just look into his dark blue eyes and do nothing as usual…
"... But speaking about hospitals, I can only assume you must already know about Aaron, right?"
Alpha Dylan brought me back into our conversation then, mentioning my other half casually since no one would think much about his words seeing how we were stepsiblings after all.
"Yes, Jiya told me about it. She told me about how bad he got in the time I was away, that I can't even believe how a simple drink caused it all."
As if it had nothing to do with me, I replied, quickly becoming grateful when the Alpha couple seemed to believe my words before they continued our conversation, informing me why most future Alphas of our Pack were there so early.
… Shade was not among them, but as far as I could tell, even Paola was there this morning, training with the others as if it were a weekend…
"It's not the best news I would like to tell you as soon as you come back, but the Inoue's youngest boy spotted some hunters on our borders when he was betting race with his friends."
"Hunters? But they haven't shown up here in years, especially since the last mayor stopped encouraging it in the area."
When I was a child, this was still a concern of the older wolves as they didn't respect the private property signs most of the time, putting the younger ones at risk, besides themselves, since they were simple Humans.
"We were as surprised as you when he told us, honey. And we were even surprised when we found their tracks right there and a few more yards ahead along with another scent." With eyes full of worry, Alpha Magnolia commented, and I couldn't just believe it was real.
"... You two... You two can't mean what I'm thinking, right? They've never shown up here in all these years since the Pack was created." My peaceful way back home seemed to be getting further and further away from me as my grandmother's words echoed in the back of my mind reminding me what Mirror Night meant to all the first members who moved here like her...
... A safe place for their wounded families...
"... Yes, as much as I don't like to say it, supernatural hunters seem to be among them."
