Chapter 28 - Past - Giselle
Happiness and anxiety were mixed inside Giselle when she awoke that morning.
Her heart seemed to beat a thousand times faster than usual, and at first, she found herself at a loss about what had happened to her before she realized what it was all.
... That was the first Full Moon after her birthday a couple of weeks ago...
The special event, which usually happened between the end of the teenage years and the early stages of adulthood for Werewolves, had occurred for her then.
And like everyone else of her kind, Giselle felt delighted at the thought that the other heartbeat she could hear pounding in her chest belonged to her Mate.
... She had a Mate, someone out there who was her other half. Someone she longed to meet after realizing he truly existed out there...
No drama disturbed her mind yet at this point, allowing her to stay in bed for a little longer with her hands over her chest, imagining the day she would meet him... Hoping that, for once, her life would be like a fairy tale.

As the light blinded me upon opening my eyes, I remembered the strange familiar dream from years ago when the worry that I would be a Mateless wolf disappeared from my mind.
… Even if I think about it now, that might be a thousand times better option than the reality I was living amid the sadness and lies…
"How are you feeling now?" Reaffirming to me that she was in the room as her scent told me, the Winter Witch asked me, approaching the bed before our eyes met when I turned my head to look at her.
"What... happened? Why was that so painful?" Although I didn't think painful wasn't a word good enough to describe everything I felt then, I said it to her in any way.
"The bonds connecting you two are deeper than you can even imagine. So, if we want to hide the truth from your mating, they must all be erased from plain view or stripped away from you. Thus, you can say the pain was a small p*****t for all that."
And as she touched my face with her cold hand, her eyes seemed lighter than usual…
"You should be feeling better now, but be sure to let me know if you feel sick again before you leave." She finished telling me, moving a step back before reaching for something in her pocket, which I soon realized to be a cell phone. "I've already added my number to your phone, so if you need anything, just call me instead of asking someone else to do it for you."
Honestly, as I looked back, it didn't make sense that Winnie would have done that spell for me without a price, even if we knew each other... It wasn't how Witch worked, no matter how kind they could be.
"... Thank you... Thank you for helping me and for your kindness. I don't know what I would have done without your help."
"You don't need to thank me. I know you would have managed to protect this secret of yours somehow, even without my help, as we can not change certain challenges in life, no matter how much we may want to."
Her words might sound simple, yet they seemed so clever to me, almost as if she knew something I didn't, and based on the few things I had learned about Witches when I was young, it could be true.
"That may be true, but nothing would be as powerful as your spell. So thank you for fulfilling my selfish wish, and I can only hope there is a way that I can pay you back for it."
"I know very well what you must be thinking, but this is no needed." Giving me my phone back, Winnie finished saying. "However, if you are still feeling in such a way in the future, you can pay me back then as I believe that your help will be more than welcome for them when the right time arrives."
Once again, talking about things I didn't know about, she left me puzzled if she was talking about Coleman, her Alphas, or... About someone else.
"Don't worry. When the time arrives, you will know what my words mean. But for now, I believe it's best to leave things like this as you may need a little time to yourself, seeing how you have several messages to answer. And you wouldn't want it to disturb you when someone brings you something to eat anytime soon."
After telling me this, it only took her a minute to disappear while I confirmed what she said was true after turning on my phone as there were thousands of messages from my family, Alphas, and even Jiya.
Making quite tough to decide which one I should start from as I wasn't sure who would be the best person to answer first since the ones sent by my grandmother were just as important to me as those from the Alpha couple.
... But like a sign of light at the end of the tunnel, which was more like a hopeless maze to me, I was happy to see that the most recent call had been from Jiya, whom I soon called back without delay...
Her voice sounded uncertain that I really was who she was talking to at first, searching in my answers for any evidence that showed someone was trying to trick her then.
... Which she clearly would never be able to find in that strange conversation we had....
"I'm sorry. Some things happened, and I just managed to see your messages and calls now."
"How- No, wait. I'm talking to you, a person who can forget about it all the time when you are doing something important. Besides, I'm the last person in the world who can argue with you about it since I do that all the time."
Good thing I knew that was the best way to apologize to Jiya as it would make her forget about the questions she wanted to do due to her own guilty of ignoring me more than a couple of times in the past.
A habit of hers when she was too interested in a new book, losing herself in between the pages she read.
… Something so usual that it made that strange conversation seem quite normal as well…
"But this goes beside the point, so back to what I was saying. Really, what is going on with your family? You. Aaron. Who will be the next? Ronnie? Honestly, what is going on with you guys?"
"Aaron? What do you mean by that?" However, it didn't take long for me to be the one tricked by her words without knowing what had happened back at home during the few days I had been away.
"Noah hasn't told you yet? I mentioned it with him the other day, but you weren't the only one who disappeared after the Solstice. Aaron didn't show up for his regular training session either, and when the Alpha couple asked your parents about it, they just said he couldn't leave the house for a few days."
As I remembered the wine we shared, this was something easy to picture in my mind, and as bad as that might sound... I hoped it could have helped hide my secret from the others, as this little time before Winnie's spell could still ruin everything if my mother or any other wolf paid closer attention to his scent.
... But I did barely know how the price to hide our bond wasn't something paid only by me.
