I left out of the Alphas office after our pack doctor had informed me the Luna had arrived safely. I gave him Alpha’s cell phone number to keep him updated. As I walked down to the building where Bryce was, I thought about what had happened. I hated telling the Alpha that the Hells revenge pack had not broken any laws, but in fact, his pack members were actually at fault for the attack. Our laws are very clear when it comes to mates. As long as the sought mate is not currently married or rejects the other mate, and as long as they leave willingly on their own and are not in any way restrained, there is nothing no one can do about it. If anyone tries to interfere with their departure, the male may attack because it is seen as a threat to him and his mate and anyone with them. They could technically call it a form of disrespect and demand their heads.
“Are you about finished here” I asked Bryce once I found him. “Yes. I just finished. Did you get everything that you needed for the report” he asked. “I did,” I answered as we walked out to our SUV. “And?” Bryce asked, wanting to know what the verdict was. “This pack is the one at fault, as it turned out, so we are done, besides me writing up the report” I explained as we left. Brayden and Brandon were already at the pack house waiting for us to return. They did not have a reason to return after they brought the Luna to our hospital.
When we got back to the pack house, Brayden and Brandon went out to help unload everything. “I needed to go report to the Alpha. I will meet you all in my office,’ I told them as I went to see my father. “Hey Dad, we are back”, I told him, knocking before I entered. “Come on in Krista.” He answered. I walked into the office and took a seat so I could give him the report that I would be turning in to the elder council who reported to the King and Queen of our lands. “That was a quick trip. I know we received the Luna, but other than that, what happened? Who was at fault?” he asked. “Alpha Karl’s pack was at fault sir. The parents of two girls the other pack sought tried to stop them from leaving. The others attacked, which is in their right” I answered. “Well then, they have no one to blame but themselves then. Did you call to speak to the Alpha of the other pack yet” He asked. “Well, no sir, I have not. I figured you would want to do that since it is the Hells Revenge Pack”, I explained. This pack, as ruthless as it was, was also the pack that my mother and the Beta’s wife came from. I watched my father take a deep breath, as all of the color drained from his face. It was no secret that they held him and the Beta personally responsible for my mother and the triplet’s mother’s death. The Alpha of the pack was actually my grandfather. My mother was his only child. A female Alpha. However my grandfather did not retire and handed the pack over to her.
“David, this is Joe” I heard my father say. “Yes, that is why I was calling. Krista just informed me of the investigation, and your warriors were justified in attacking,” he explained. “Yes sir, she is right here” he said, as that got my attention. “Hold on here she is” he said handing me the phone. I looked at my father like he really had lost his mind. I have not spoken to my grandfather in I don’t know how long. Probably not since my mother’s funeral. They had not bothered once to call or check on me since she died. I held the phone to my ear as I answered. “Hello”, I said hesitantly. “Well, hello Krista dear. This is your grandfather; I believe you have forgotten all about me now, haven’t you” he asked cheerfully. “Well, no sir. I have just been busy since mom died” I said before I even realized it. “Well, there is only one to blame for that. If he had only done his job as you now do it for him, then that accident never would have happened.” My grandfather said. “Sir, I mean no disrespect to you or to my father when I say this, but I do not know what you are speaking of, I myself did not do the investigations, all I know is what the report says and that says that no one was at fault but them.” I answered as I always have tried to remain mutual in that entire situation. “I understand my dear. I however, am in need of speaking with you and the triplets about your roles here. Will you please come out tomorrow to meet with me” my grandfather asked. “I am sorry, did you just ask me to come meet with you tomorrow with the triplets” I asked to make certain that I heard correctly and for my father to hear what was going on. “Yes, you are my granddaughter and my only left living heir. Your Grandmother and I would both love to see you as well as the triplets’ grandparents” he answered. “Well, I will need to ask them of their plans for tomorrow. May I call you back after I speak to them.” I asked. “Of course, dear. You have my number. Just let us know. We hope to see the four of you tomorrow”, He answered before he hung up the phone.
I looked at my father. “What was that all about” I asked. “Who knows about that man? He is probably hoping that with you being this close to your birthday that maybe you will find your mate at that pack instead of here.” He answered. “Is that the real reason that you are having reservations about giving this pack to me? You want to make certain that my mate is not there, aren’t you” I asked getting upset now that I saw the real reasons behind his change. I turned to leave and when he did not stop me, I knew that I was right. I went to my office and slammed the door, making the entire pack house shake. I could hear things falling and breaking everywhere. “Should we run and hide” Brayden asked as I plopped on my chair. “My father is so freaking unbelievable! No matter what I do or have done, he continues to use the Alpha title over my head to keep me exactly where he wants me. It is not fair. I am sick of running everything around here and doing his work, and for what, for him just to sit in his office and mourn the death of my mom,” I yelled as I rambled on frustrated. “Slow down and calm down.” Bryce said as he walked up behind me and started massaging my shoulders. I began to relax a bit.
