Unknown I’ve been watching from afar the last few weeks. I was at the Prince’s wedding, when that abomination rejected him. It took everything I had not to complete my mission right there. She didn’t deserve to be one of us, let alone a princess. I had my orders though. I was to hold back until the moment was right. The moment always seemed right. She was never alone for long though. Her new beau, he was always watching her with such hunger. It was disgusting. There were twigs snapping behind me and I turned to look at the figure approaching. “It took you long enough.” I grunted as he came up beside me, looking over the kingdom we were sent to take down, slowly. I hated slow. I was a get it done fast kinda of guy. However, my orders kept me in line. I wasn’t supposed to get close to the abomination, I wasn’t supposed to stand in the way of her ending. Simple as that. ‘Not simple and you know it.’ My inner wolf growled out in a huff. But he was right, it wasn’t simple. As much as I called her an abomination, to try to detach myself from her, she was absolutely stunning. When I’d seen her at the Prince’s wedding, she nearly knocked the breath out of me. The way she held her own to him not accepting her rejection and returning to the Princess at the altar, hot as f*****g hell. She held herself high as she left the church, her guard helping her stand upright and keep her dignity, what was left of it anyway. She was strong, and she f*****g got under my skin like she wasn’t supposed to. “Well, I had to take a detour. The King has upped the guards this week, since the wedding is in five days.” The man grumbled as we watched the celebrations of the new wedding in the streets of the kingdom. Everyone was on a high that the golden child was getting married. “Everything is set though. We have a way in on the day of the wedding. I think I’ve even gotten us close enough for you to slip into her room before they say their vows.” He grinned at me and I rolled my eyes. He was great at sweet talking his way through anything. Literally. Anything. I nodded and crossed my arms, staring at the castle. Whatever my employer wanted with her, wasn’t my business. It wasn’t supposed to be anyway. I’m just supposed to get in, grab her, leave and deliver her to him. Easy peasy. Right? It’s supposed to be. Whoever came up with the word supposed? I wanted to strangle them right now. I don’t get involved. I don’t care about my jobs. I don’t question. Why is she changing all of this? “You did good Tank.” I said with a nod, my eyes still on the castle. They were actually on her room. I’d seen her in there one night and every time I look at the building, my eyes find that window. They shouldn’t, but they do. She’d been standing at the window looking over everything and I swear I felt her eyes on me. But there was no way she could have seen me. I was too far and hidden too well, but I stared back anyway. I had no idea why she got to me so badly, it was infuriating. She was a job. Nothing more. Nothing. More. “Why do you think he wants her?” Tank asked as he squatted down next to me, picking at the grass. We usually didn’t talk about why the person who hired us wanted something. Seems like he was getting caught up in her too. I shrugged. “She’s different. She’s the only daughter of the king. She was fated to the High Prince. She’s unnatural.” I rattled off stupid reasons, but they sounded like the guy who hired us. “You know how he likes unnatural things.” Tank nodded but stayed quiet. Unusually quiet. “There’s something special about her. I’m finding it harder and harder to want to kidnap her each day. And I haven’t even met the woman!“ He threw his hands up as he stood. So he was feeling similar to me. Thankfully I wasn’t alone in this. But we had a job. It paid so, so well. Best one we’ve had in a while. “I get it Tank, but we can’t. She’s our job. We turn her over, get our money and she’s not our problem after that.” Even saying that I didn’t believe it for a second. There wasn’t a moment I believed I could just walk away from her. “What about her betrothed? Anything weird going on there?” I asked, trying to change the subject. We were told to kidnap the girl, but to also see if her current betrothed had any ill intentions for her. Tank shook his head. “I haven’t seen anything, but I get a weird vibe from him. Like he isn’t who he says he is. Like his tricking her.” He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. This whole mission was getting to the both of us. We were going to need a very long break after this. “Well, keep an eye on him. If there’s anything weird going on, we’ll figure out.” I said to him. He nodded and then ducked back into the darkness, leaving me alone with my thoughts, and my annoying wolf. ‘She is special.’ He said and I rolled my eyes. We’d been having these lovely conversations ever since we saw her in the church at the Prince’s wedding. ‘She’s off limits. Not ours.’ I replied to him and he growled in response. He never liked being told something wasn’t his. I flinched slightly, simply because I didn’t really believe me either. Now wasn’t the time to think about that though. I had five days to either get her to come willingly or kidnap her before her wedding. I also had to figure out if there was anything weird going on with that man she’s betrothed to. I had to do all of this without my feelings getting in the way. ‘Good luck with that.’
