{Lilith’s POV}
It was after 1:00AM when I finally walked into the house, Carson had drank himself to sleep in his recliner again. I quietly closed the door, locking it, and made my way past him into the bathroom. I took off my clothes throwing them in the laundry basket and hopped in the shower. I quickly washed off all the sweat and spilled alcohol that covered my body and relaxed my tense muscles under the hot water. A little smile etched across my face when I remembered how much money I’d be making at this private event. When I was leaving I placed the check in my purse, and made sure it was tucked away safely in my secret hiding place inside the seam of the purse. I finished washing off and got out wrapping a towel around me and opening the bathroom door.
Carson was standing right in the door frame, waiting for me to open it. “Why’d you take a shower as soon as you got home? You been sleeping around?” He asked, the stench of liquor on his breath.
“No Carson, I take a shower every single night, you know that! I get sweaty from dancing, and I have drunk patrons that spill their alcohol everywhere and I always have to clean it up. Believe it or not, not everyone enjoys reeking of liquor!” I spat my words like venom in his face.
He make a quick turn then struck me across my face splitting my lip, and knocking me to the floor. “You should really learn when to shut up!” He said coldly. “Maybe your annoying mouth is why your parents got rid of you!” He sneered, I began to get up from my place on the floor and that’s when I felt his foot on the center of my chest. He kicked me back down, and held his boot on my ribs. “Maybe if I break a few ribs you won’t be able to dance for a while!”
“If you do that, how will you afford your liquor and your food? That’s all you really care about anyways!” I screamed.
He paused for a moment, a look I couldn’t quite read spread across his face, he grumbled something incoherent then stumbled off to the couch, falling down on it and passing out. I waited on the floor for what felt like hours, the fear of waking him up and getting him riled up again stopping my movements. Finally when I was sure he wasn’t going to get up I stood tightening the towel around me, and walking quietly to the bedroom. I locked the door behind me and quickly put on some pajamas. I got into bed and laid sobbing until I finally drifted off into a deep sleep.
I woke to the sound of soft knocks on the door. “Lilith..” I could hear Carson call out, his voice sweet like candy. “Lilith I’m so sorry, can we talk?” He asked.
I stood, afraid of not answering and setting off his temper once again. I opened the door slowly and looked up at him. “Lilith, I’m so sorry, I was so drunk and jealous, I wasn’t in my right mind. I swear I’d never hurt you! I honestly didn’t know what I was doing, please, say you forgive me..” he pleaded.
I’ve heard all of this before, there is no changing the fact that he is a horrible person, but his honeyed words almost always draw me back in. That was always his plan, he’d hurt me, then apologize and treat me well for a few days, before doing it all over again. The sad thing is.. I keep falling for it. He held out his arms, and like always I walked into his embrace. “I knew you’d forgive me darlin’” he said, his lips brushed across my forehead. My heart sank, of course I would, I always do..
I looked up at him. “Speaking of forgiveness, me and some of the girls got hired for a private event, it’s great money! $1000 for the night, and any tips are ours.” I said.
“$1000, that sounds like they’re paying for more than just dances.” He seeded out in a snarky tone.
“Carson.. really? Already back to being mean?” I asked in a teasing tone.
“No of course not darlin’, I’m sure it’ll be fine!” He gritted out between his clenched jaw.
“I thought you’d agree, plus, who could beat $1000!” I squealed happily. The actual price I was being paid was $2000, and I had to make sure that he didn’t find that out. If he did he’d use all the money on booze! “I’m going to go shopping to pick up some clothes and shoes, I’ll be gone all night so don’t wait up!” I said grabbing my purse and quickly exiting the apartment. As soon as my feet hit the pavement I booked it to my motorcycle. I tossed on my helmet and took off, I’d go eat something, go shopping, then head on over and find out who all will be working the party tonight, and begin practicing my performances. I went to the bank and quickly cashed my check, then I made my way to a dinner, quickly ate some breakfast, then went to the store to shop. I decided to buy a new dress for tonight since the McNeil Group was such a big name around here, definitely not wanting to look out of place. I walked into a high end boutique, and began browsing the shelves. Soon a store manager walked over to me, which I should have figured seeing as how I was wearing a leather jacket, and black jeans, along with a ripped up band t-shirt I made into a crop top
“Ma’am this boutique may be a little out of your price range, maybe you should try one of them from a less renowned neighborhood.” She sneered.
I pulled out my designer bag, and slipped out the $1000 I just put in there. “Here I was looking for a nice dress to wear tonight to a private event, but seeing as how apparently I can’t afford it I guess I’ll take my business elsewhere!” I sneered back placing the money back in my purse and turning on my heel to leave.
“Wait, miss, miss!” She called chasing after me. “I do believe I have the perfect dress for you!” She said a fake smile now plastered across her lips.
I stuck my nose in the air, I knew how to act prissy when it suited me. I walked back towards her, “and where is this perfect dress?” I asked.
She walked me over to a mannequin and turned it around. “This is a one of a kind, the artist just finished making it, it is the most beautiful dress in our collection!”
I hated to admit it, but she was right, it was perfect, and it was going to be mine!
