CHAPTER 1

***Jane*** "Jane..." "Jane, come back," my mother and sisters called as I dashed out of the house without looking back. I was entirely out of my mind as I kept running without looking back. I was about to unconsciously end my life when suddenly a hand grabbed me by the waist, suspending me in the air. "Do you want to end your life?" A guy with a deep, soothing voice said as I returned to my senses. "I...I... please put me down," I said as I burst into tears. "Crying won't solve anything, so stop whining over spilled milk," he said "H...how can you say that to someone in distress," I said "I didn't say anything wrong." "Your crying won't solve anything, so there's no need for you to be a nuisance to people around," he said What? A nuisance? We were at the edge of a cliff with no one else around, so could I be a nuisance? "Look, I am grateful to you for saving my life, but I won't sit still and let you talk to me in that manner," I said "If you're grateful, do me a favor and leave," he said "Yeah, I'm leaving. I don't want to stay another second with you," I said as I got up and left. "Oh s**t!" I said I had no idea of how to get back home. "S...sorry, do you know the way back to the Crescent Palace," I said as I lowered my head in shame. "Take three left turns and two right turns; you should know your way from there," he said "Thank you," I said as I left. Night fell before I recognized my way back home. "Jane," my mother said as she burst into tears. "Why did you run away like that? You made everyone worried about you," she said "Jay," as my sister, Jenna, always called me. I have three elder sisters and a younger sister. Amongst them all, I'm closest to Jenna. She was my best friend. "We were all worried about you. Don't you ever run away like that," Jenna said "You can't run away carelessly like that. Don't you know everyone was worried about you? You know your mother has a weak heart; do you intend to worsen it?" My Father, the Alpha, said Yes, my mother has always had a weak heart that any little thing could worsen it. "Look, I know you went through a lot today, but you can't go around causing commotion and making people worry about you," he said Right! I almost forgot my Father was hard-hearted. He had always been like that. I always envied my friends and the relationship they had with their Father. I never really experienced my Father's love. "I'm sorry father" "I'm sorry mother." "I...I'm sorry, everyone; I didn't mean to put everyone on the edge and worry about me," I said "My baby, I'm just glad you're back home," my mother said. My mother is quite the opposite of my Father. She is loving and caring. She always showers my sisters and me with love. "Mother..." I said I became emotional "Come on, you guys should not make us all cry," Jenna said, and we laughed. "Come, Mother ensured that your favorite dish was made for dinner," Jenna said "Really?" I said with excitement "Yes," Jenna said "Thanks, Mother, I needed it," I said "I believe the food won't eat itself," my Father said sarcastically. "No sir," we all echoed as we rushed to the dining table. Just when I thought my day was improving, my Father made a heartbreaking announcement. "Since we are all gathered here, I would like to make an announcement," he said "We'll be having a send-forth party tomorrow for Nichole." I noticed no one questioned his decision. It was as if they all knew about it except for me. "A send forth? Why? Where is she going to?" I asked "To her mate's house," he answered. "Her mate? What mate father?" I asked "Yes," he answered. "Jane, I know you went through a lot today, but we can't ignore the fact that your mate chose your sister," he said "But father, he was supposed to be my mate," I said "Unfortunately, he chose your sister and not you," he said Unfortunately? How can you use such words on your daughter, who has already been through a lot? "B...but the father," I said "Look, there's no debating about it; I have crossed the Rubicon," he said "Mother? J...Jenna?" I called out to them to stand by me, but they all sat there without saying a word "Father, how can you let Nichole marry someone who humiliated me? What makes you think he wouldn't do the same to Nichole?" I said "How did he humiliate you?" My Father asked "Father..." I said in a loud and angry tone "Don't raise your voice at your father," my mother said "Mother, how could you sit there and say nothing?" I said She looked away without giving me an answer. "You all saw what happened. You saw how he humiliated me, saying I wasn't good enough for him," I said "How is that humiliating? He just said what he thought. Besides, we can't go against the moon goddess and tarnish our reputation," My Father said "O...our reputation," I scoffed and said "You mean your reputation." "Jane, stop it," my mother said "What, mother? We all know that he has cared only about himself and his reputation and doesn't give a dam about us," I said "I said stop," my mother said as she slapped me across the face. That was the first time my mother had slapped me in the face. It made me more furious, and I began to speak without caution. "You know I'm right, mother. He doesn't even give you the love and respect you deserve all because you didn't bear a son for him," I said "Jay, enough already," Jenna said "To your room." "J..." I tried to talk, but I was cut short by Jenna "I said to your room," she said as she gave me a stern stare. That's when I came to my senses and realized I had said something hurtful to my mother. "I...I'm sorry, Mother" I said as I ran to my room. I sat in my room sad, regretting everything I had said to my mother. But I wasn't at fault; what would you have done if the day you long-awaited or the person you yearned for rejected you?
