Chapter Four Celia woke at dawn just as the first gray light came through the lace curtains. Robert’s arms were still around her, and she longed to close her eyes and rest there. But her mother would need her help preparing breakfast and tidying the house, so she stirred gently, trying to get out of the bed without waking Robert. Her attempt was unsuccessful and Robert opened his eyes, pulling her closer against him. “Do you have to go?” he murmured. She turned and kissed his forehead. “Aye, Robert. I’ve a lot to do.” Robert sighed and released her. “I love you, Ceil.” He watched her tenderly as she pulled on her nightgown and wrap.
