Chapter One
Tracy's POV
“Miss Tracy this is so unlike you” my boss Ricardo Simmons said flinging the report I brought out of his sight.
“I’m sorry sir”
“What ever problems you are having leave it at home before coming to work”
“I’m sorry sir”
“Did you even read that?”
“Yes sir”
“I don’t think you did. You have one hour to rewrite that report and bring it to my office”
“But sir working hours will be over in less than thirty minutes”
“Good, bring it to my office before your working hours is over”
“Sir?”
“Leave my office now”
“I’m sorry sir” I said walking away.
“You forgot that trash” he said pointing towards the report I brought in earlier.
I picked up the report and left his office, I went to my desk, edited the errors I made as fast as I could because I couldn’t risk going to my second work late, when I was done I take it back to his office, luckily for me he didn’t reject it.
“You can now go” he said after making me stand in his office for more than twenty minutes.
“Thank you sir” I said and quickly ran out of his office. I was already an hour late to work, I quickly put on my jacket, grabbed my purse and left the office.
Aside from having three kids and being a single mother, having a double work is the next most stressful thing. I got into my car and called the nanny to hear from my kids.
Sophia, Shane and Shawn will become eight years old on the first day of September which luckily fell on a sunday and it is less than a month from now and they’ve being on my neck about throwing a birthday party for them, I’ve never really celebrated their birthday in any special way and it seems like kids in their school laugh at them because of it so I promised throw a grand party for them this year but honestly I don’t really have enough facilities to do that, and the same time I don’t want to disappoint them.
Raising three kids alone is already too much expenses for me, they go to one of the best schools here, as much as it’s not easy at all, I always try my best to make sure they never lack any essential thing and to not feel the absence of their father even though some kids at their school tease them for not having a father and it always gets to them especially Sophia.
“Hey babies”
“Mummy” the chorused.
“How are my babies doing this beautiful evening?”
“Fine mum, how are you?” Sophia asked.
“I’m good, hope you’ve had lunch?”
“Yes mum” they answered.
“Is dad coming for our birthday party?” Sophia asked?
“No sweetheart, he said he’s busy”
“I told ya” Shawn said
“C’mon don’t be sad, we're still going to have......”
“Bye mum” she said cutting me short and hanging up the call before I could say another word.
I felt really bad that I couldn't tell them that their father doesn't even know that they exist, I only found out that I was pregnant few weeks after I broke off our engagement, I remember how everyone around advised me to abort the pregnancy, saying that it'll only bring back bad memories that should be forgotten and how a twenty one years old college student cannot take care of a child, little did they know that I was going to give birth to triplets. It came as shock to both I and everyone around me then. I remember writing my final exams while heavily pregnant, I looked like I was about explode. After my exams, I couldn't get a job cause no one wanted to hire someone heavy and honestly I really understood them because If I was in their shoes I wouldn't even hire myself. At that point I wished that I listened to those that told me abort it, I thought I'd get a job immediately I finished school but unfortunately things didn't go as planned. I finally got to the bar that I was serving as I working as a bartender.
“You're late” Alison Gibson my co worker said as she came out from the counter.
“Thank you very much for covering for me”
“It's not like I had a choice”
“Where's Luke?” I asked as I put on the bar's uniform
“He isn't here”
“Thank Goodness” I said and got into the counter.
By the time I got home after work, it was already past eleven pm and the kids were already asleep, so I quietly walked into the house to avoid waking the kids up, I dismissed their nanny who was sleeping on the couch and locked the front door. I went to the kids room as quietly as possible, I just sat at the bed side desk and was staring at them, grateful that I didn't do anything stupid eight years ago and at the same time feeling bad for keeping them in the the dark.
I went back to my room feeling so exhausted.
“At this rate I'm probably going to break down” I said as I got undressed and tossed the clothes on the floor. I got into the bath tub and laid still for while, I loved the cold feeling the water gave me. After bathing I change into cotton night wear.
“Should I call him?” I asked myself starring at Riley's business card. My closest Cousin somehow got hold of the card and gave it to me after convincing me to call Riley and stop killing myself. As much as I wanted to give him a call and ask for child support I still couldn't risk it, Riley is now married to his secretary Phoebe Bell whom got pregnant for him while we were engaged, so I don't want to cause trouble in someone's marriage. After contemplating I put back the card into my bed side drawer and went to sleep.
I woke up the next morning still feeling tired, I quickly had my bath, made breakfast and went to wake the kids up. I got to their room and found them awake.
“Good morning mum” they greeted immediately they saw me.
“Good morning my babies, how you you guys doing this morning?”
“We're fine, what about you?”
“I'm good. Has it being long since you guys woke up?”
“No, we just woke up” Shawn answered
“Okay” I helped then bath and get dressed for school and we went to the dining to have breakfast.
“Pancake!!!!!” Shane screamed as he jumped on the chair.
“Be careful love”
“What's the occasion mum?” Shawn asked.
“Can't you see that she's trying to bribe us so we won't ask her to tell dad to come for our birthday party” Sophia said.
“That's not true baby”
“You know it is, every body in school has an experience with their father excluding us and its really not fair” She said
“I know baby and I'm really sorry about that, just give I and your dad a little more time, he promised to come home soon”
“I no longer care” she said and kept eating.
After eating I drive them to school.
“Tell your nanny Graciela that your launch is on the counter that all she has to do is microwave it” I said as they got down from the car.
“Okay mum” they said as they walked away.
“I love you” I said blowing kisses to them but they were too shy to look back.
I got to work and met some of my co workers clustered in front of the notice board.
“What's going on?” I asked touching one of my colleagues shoulder.
“Our company is up for sale”
“What? Why?”
“That I do not have an answer to”
“Is that all they said on the notice”
“It says we get ourselves ready because they're not sure if the new owners will need our services”
“Jeezzz, this is bad, this is really bad, I really can't afford to loose my job, not now, not in the nearest future. How will I survive, how will my kids survive, how am I meant to cater for them, I can't basically raise a family with the little money I make from the bar. Oh!! my life is finished” I kept murmuring to myself as I got to my desk. I still can't believe that there's a fifty probability that I'll soon be jobless.
“Tracy!!” a colleague called making me snap back to reality.
“We're are having an emergency meeting with the Managing Director at the conference hall.”
“Thanks, I'll be there shortly”
“Okay” She said and walked away
At the meeting the MD apologized for the sudden info and said it was the only way to save his company, He said that he believes that he'd still remain the MD but he'd no longer be the owner of company and hopes that one day he'll get it back which I know would be impossible considering the type of person he is.
