My chest heaved as I came to a stop a few feet away from the river. I put my hands on my knees, hunching over as I tried to regain my breath. My chest was heaving in exasperation from the run that I had just finished. I forced myself upright, turning around, my eyes searching for Blairs’ form until it found her. She was still fairly far away, and I knew that it was because I had gotten an unfair head-start. In my defence, I needed to lead the way. The chances that she would have gotten lost while trying to find her way here were too great to risk. This way she was able to follow my scent. It had been a smart idea on my part.
