chapter 1. introduction

Rolling out of bed headed to get my morning coffee because honestly I can't function without it. I share a small two bedroom apartment with my best friend Luna. I'm in college for teaching but also work part time at Joe's bar down the road because even though my dad has money I feel like I need to get a feel of the real world. Luna is is college for nursing which suits her because she's very good under pressure and with blood unlike me. We've been friends since the second grade, that year my mom left me and my dad because all she was after was his money. Dad and I are extremely close but he works out of town alot. But because of what happened with my mother I've tried to guard myself from relationships because I can't ever tell if they like me or my dad's money. I just got out of a verbally abusive relationship, Zach, it only lasted 3 months before I caught him cheating after I had given him my virginity. He always told me I wasn't good enough, but then would turn around and tell me I was perfect.

Luna has been my rock. Her relationship status is a little more complicated she likes to play the field. this week's boy toy name is Dane.

" Good morning sunshine" Luna walks into the kitchen ready for the day, with her brown hair perfect and her blue eyes shining.

" morning, I'm gonna throw some clothes on and head to class before I'm late"

" okay, don't forget me and Dane will be at the game to watch you cheer tonight. and he's bringing a friend" she playfully says

I roll my eyes

" um, okay."

this isn't the first time since the break up she's tried to introduce me to someone. I run to my room and throw on some shorts and a t-shirt because September in texas is hot. grabbing my books and cheer bag I hug Luna and leave for class.

standing in my kitchen of my house that is a work in progress while one of my friends Dane tells me he's got a date tonight and I have to come to meet the girls friend.

" I really don't feel like being set up"

"dude zoey cheated on you 3 years ago it's to to move on." I grunt when I hear her name. Zoey my ex girlfriend. We dated for about half a year after she was a one night stand and while I was deployed 3 years ago Dane sent me pictures of her and some skinny white punk f*****g in my bed. Ever since then I've just buried myself in the military.

' whatever, I'm going to watch the game. I don't have time for some girl looking for a free ride on my insurance' Dane laughs.

" okay, I'll pick you up from base at 4"

I hang up the phone and exhale. I'm really not sure if this is a good idea. not sure why he didn't call my best friend Nate this is more his thing.

I throw on my uniform and grab my coffee to head to base. I just have to do light training with the runts while I wait for my next assignment. I'll see if Nate wants to take my place at this football game when I get to base.
