The Meaning of Us

Chapter Eight: Starting A New Life.

"You don't have to apologize, Boss. But I'll have to take full responsibility for this..." Amaia sadly stated.

"What happened,Amaia? You don't look good...Do you want to tell me about it?" Boss Lina inquired, and she looks clearly worried.

"Boss... I think I'm inlove with Nick Sorrento. The reason why I asked you not to print my article about him is because I want to tell him everything myself... I don't want to hurt and betray the man that I love." Amaia finally confesses, as starts to break down and cry.

"Oh, Amaia... I really don't know what to say. But one thing's for sure... It's not a bad thing to fall inlove with someone. You must be thinking that you're such a bad person for leading him on, but if he also loves you, he will find forgiveness in his heart." Boss Lina relayed, while giving Amaia a comforting hug.

"I love him so much, and it hurts like hell! I'll do everything and anything that I can for him to forgive me." Amaia said, as she was getting more and more emotional.

She's willing to accept Nick's anger because of what she did, because it was entirely all her fault...

Amaia is currently at a secluded park while he's waiting for Nick Sorrento to arrive at their meeting place.

She decided to call him to tell him everything and apologize to him...

"Amaia."

She held her breath in suspense when she heard that familiar voice. As she slowly turns around, he saw Nick standing a few meters away from her.

Amaia secretly shivered when she saw Nick staring back at her with cold eyes. She couldn't see any expression on his face...

"Nick, I---!" Amaia wasn't able to finish her sentence when Nick suddenly spoke.

"What the hell is the meaning of this, Amaia?" Nick asked, as she can hear the tone of anger on his voice.

Amaia shuddered in horror as she saw the latest copy IT Magazine on his hand.

Nick opened the magazine and read a certain page there.

"Nick Sorrento is just like a normal man when he's dating a woman. He is a real gentleman, and he knows how to make a girl swoon. And he is very different from what you see on the cameras..." Nick started reading the article about him.

"Nick, please let me explain..." Amaia pleaded, as she tries to get closer to him.

"Tsk, tsk. You've disappointed me, Amaia." he said, as he was trying to control her anger.

Amaia's whole body trembled. It was obvious that Nick's trying to control her anger. It was also clear that he won't be able to forgive her.

Meanwhile, Nick was secretly taken back when he saw Amaia's tears falling down from her face. She looked so vulnerable and defenseless.

He wanted to hug her right there and then, but his anger seems to be more evident...

"We shouldn't have met each other Nick... If we didn't meet each other, maybe I won't be able to hurt you like this." Amaia's crying non-stop.

Nick feels deeply hurt as well, as if someone punched him on the chest. He doesn't want to see Amaia crying like this.

Without any word, he decided to walk away from her, without looking back at her...

At the same time, Amaia just keeps on crying, as she watches Nick walking away from her. She couldn't blame Nick for being so angry. She betrayed him, and it's entirely all her fault...

Eventhough Amaia wasn't able to sleep last night, she decided to go to their office to talk to her Boss face to face...

At the same time, Amaia can still vividly remember Nick Sorrento's angry facial expression when he finally learned about her article... She shook her head wildly, as if she's trying to shake off the memories of what happened last night...

Amaia just kept on walking eventhough her all of her co-workers are watching her every move. She doesn't give a damn on what they say of think about her. even though her other office mates were looking at her.

She just continued on walking until she reaches her Boss' private office. She saw her Boss sitting at her swivel chair, while she's talking someone over the phone...

Amaia knocked first to get her attention. Boss Lina raised her hand, allowing her to enter her office...

Amaia walks inside the private office and waited for her Boss to finish with her phonecall.

"We'll talk about later at the meeting. Okay, bye." once Boss Lina ended the call, she turned her attention to her.

"Amaia, I really don't know what to say, but I just want you to know how sorry I am for putting you in this complicated situation. It's all my fault, and I sincerely apologize..." her Boss began to speak.

Amaia shook her head in response.

"No, Boss. You don't have to apologize. In fact, I should be the one apologizing to you. If I can go back in time, I won't accept this undercover mission. I should have known from the start that I'm not a good journalist. Well, I can say that I'm not really good at everything I do..." she said, as she bitterly smiles.

"No, that's not true, Amaia." Boss Lina spoke again.

"Anyway, to make the long story short, I want to tell you something...

I would like to formally resign from IT Magazine, Boss Rina." Amaia finally announced, as she puts her resignation letter at the table.

"But why? If you're resigning because of what happened between you and Nick Sorrento, I can talk to him that I forced you to do this undercover mission, and it was not your intention to hurt him." Lina tries to convince Amaia.

"Please don't do that, Boss. Resigning from this job is my own way of atonement and hopefully, I can move on with my life. And I hope Nick can do the same thing as well.

Lina was about to say something when they suddenly heard someone knocking at the door.

"Boss Lina, you're meeting with our clients is about to start. They are now waiting at the Conference Room." the secretary informs her.

"You should go, Boss Rina. Please accept my resignation letter. Anyway, I'll still be around. But for now, I need to be alone. Thank you very much for everything, Boss." Amaia finally said her goodbyes, and afterwards, she stepped out from the office.

Boss Lina wasn't able to say anything else. She just watched Amaia go while feeling so sad and disappointed.

"Boss Lina?" the secretary called for her attention again.

"I'll be in a conference room in a few minutes. Thank you." Rina ordered her secretary.

She took a deep breathe to calm herself, and afterwards, she stood up and made her way to the conference room...
