Evelyn POV
“Oh sh*t.”
I looked up to see a man with dark brown hair and striking amber eyes and my heart skipped a beat.
He held out a hand to me and smiled apologetically.
“I didn’t see where I was going.” He said. “It was totally my fault. I hope I didn’t hurt you.”
No one had ever held out a hand to me before, so I stared at him in confusion, waiting for him to laugh at me instead.
When he didn’t, I hesitantly placed my hand in his and he helped me up. Then he bent down and started to gather the scattered dishes back on the tray. Luckily nothing was broken, and I bent down to help him, and my shoulder touched his. He looked up at me and smiled.
“I haven’t seen you around here before.” He said and got to his feet with the tray in his hands.
“I came here just yesterday.” I mumbled shyly.
Recognition flashed across his face and he handed me the tray with a smile on his face.
“Oh, you’re Valeria’s new assistant, right?” He asked.
I nodded.
“I’m Garrett, the pack’s Gamma.” He said.
My eyes widened and I glued my gaze to the floor when I realized that the pack’s Gamma just helped me gather dishes off the floor. The Gamma in my old pack would have just whipped me as punishment.
“Were you heading to the kitchen?” He asked.
“I-I’m sorry Gamma.” I replied. “I don’t remember the way.”
“It’s alright.” He shrugged and started walking. “This way.”
I followed him into the kitchen, and once I had dropped off the dishes, I turned around and saw Garrett grin at me.
“Let’s go.” He said. “I have a surprise for the queen.”
I was surprised when he took my hand and we started walking. He led me to the bedroom and knocked on the door.
“Come in.” I heard Valeria’s voice from the other side of the door.
Garrett opened the door and pulled me with him.

Valeria POV
Garrett burst in through the door and pulled Evelyn with him, she looked more flustered than nervous, and since Evelyn was gone for quite some time, I figured that she might have gotten lost and Garrett helped her find her way back. He had done the same for me once when I visited the castle for the first time.
“Well, if it isn’t my favorite queen in the entire world.” Garrett grinned.
I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously.
“What is it that you want me to do for you?” I asked. “You have to have an ulterior motive if you’re showering me with compliments like that.”
Garrett shrugged.
“Actually, I have done some research for you.” He said. “And I reached out to some people that might be able to help.”
I scrunched up my face in a confused frown.
“Who would that be?” I asked.
“Well, they just got here, they are arriving at the palace as we speak.” He said. “Wanna go meet them?”
“Sure.” I said hesitantly.
Garrett walked out of the room and I looked at Evelyn questioningly.
“Do you know who he’s talking about?” I mouthed.
She shook her head.
“No.” She whispered. “I just ran into him in the hallway.”
I shrugged and we followed Garrett out of the castle and my skeptic demeanor turned into joy when I saw who it was.
“How’s wolf life?” My brother Aidan asked and hugged me.
I hugged him back and looked up to see my mum Annie, my dad Lucas and my uncle Eric Sampson get out of the car.
When I was rescued from the factory where they experimented on me, Mr Sampson was the leader of the operation. He gave me to his sister and her husband, and they later adopted me because they couldn’t locate any living relatives. Aidan was six years younger than me, and a true genius. He was going to a university in London and lived in my old flat.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Garrett called me and said that your powers are acting up.” Aidan said. “We’ve been looking into ways to help you.”
I smiled and looked at Garrett.
“You did that?” I asked in disbelief.
He nodded.
“Of course.” He said.
“Thank you.” I mouthed before hugging my parents and Mr Sampson too.
Mr Sampson was my former boss. I had been working for him when I met Tyson and had quit my job a month ago to be a full time queen.
“So how long have you had a problem with your powers?” Mr Sampson asked.
“I’ve felt a difference ever since I shifted.” I replied. “But it was still manageable. But then I went into heat for the first time and I lost control completely.
I gestured to the forest by the castle.
“I almost burned the forest down.” I explained. “Willow, my wolf, was completely out of control too, but she has been fine since the heat stopped. My powers, however…”
I shrugged and Aidan looked deep in thought.
“Can I see?” He asked. “I have some ideas that we could try.”
I gestured to the training grounds.
“Let’s go there.” I said. “I have training for the whole afternoon, and I’m all ears to any suggestions you might have.”
My eyes widened when Aidan pulled out a suitcase from the back of the car.
“Are you moving in?” I laughed.
Garrett chuckled.
“Well, we might have worked out some training methods that we’d like you to try.” He replied.
“That came with some props.” Aidan added and gestured to the suitcase.
“Umm- okay.” I replied, feeling a bit curious about what they were planning.
We walked over to the training grounds, and I started to feel nervous.
I used to tap into my powers all the time, doing even the smallest of things. But ever since my heat, I didn’t trust myself anymore.
While walking there, I took Mr Sampson to the side.
“I’ve found my dad’s former pack.” I said quietly.
Mr Sampson and my dad were old friends, but my dad never told him that he was a werewolf. It wasn’t until my DNA was screened with the lycan scientists that we figured it out. I was supposed to have shifted when I turned eighteen, but due to the experiments I was put through, my wolf was destroyed and I never even knew that I was a werewolf.
He stared at me.
“You did?” He said. “Which one is it?”
“Grey Moon pack.” I replied. “We went there yesterday to visit, and I can’t put my finger on it, but the whole place just seems… off.”
“Anything solid?” He asked.
“This man showed up and told us that the new Alpha killed my grandfather and seized the pack for himself.” I replied. “My father escaped, but was basically living in exile. Anyone left in the pack that opposed the new Alpha were killed and their children were left in an orphanage.”
I nodded at Evelyn.
“I brought her back with me.” I whispered. “I think she’s one of those children. I’m going to find out what happened. I just need to gain her trust first.”
“Smart move.” Mr Sampson replied and chuckled. “You can take the girl away from spying, but you can’t take the spying away from the girl.”
I chuckled.
“I guess you’re right.” I replied softly. “I’m just trying to figure out what she knows the only way I know how.”
