"Yuck!" I scrunched up my face in disgust as the most disgusting thing in the whole wide world went down my throat. "Couldn't they make it taste like mangoes?"
I looked up at Rowan to see his face frozen in a look of utter disbelief.
"What?"
I looked over at Peter and Maria. They had the same looks on their faces.
"WHAT?"
"He just said that potion will turn you into a human." Maria said.
"Yeah so?"
"You are human now." Peter said.
"So?"
"You don't care?" Rowan asked. And let me tell you, this is probably the first time in the entire period of us knowing each other that Rowan talked to me in any tone other than utter anger and hatred.
"What's the big deal? It's just normal for me without superhuman healing. I think I will live, considering the only being who ever causes me injury is also leaving." I gestured to him and then turned on my heels, ready to go back to my room and rest because... Well, why not?
"You will have to leave as well."
I stopped in my tracks.
Do I have to go to the war front with him? Why? So he can satisfy his needs? No thanks.
I turned on my heels and narrowed my eyes. "Why?"
"The pack members are apprehensive about you being here while the Alpha is away." Peter said. "In case, you know, you go back to your old ways."
I raised a brow and then smirked. "Who said I need the Alpha to be away to do what I do?"
"Jamie..." Maria hissed.
I know I know. I am always saying things that could get me in trouble, and I am probably the very person who will never let anyone forget the monster that I am. But I found it necessary to constantly remind these people what I am capable of because they should never let their guard down around me. I could attack at the most expected time. These people do not realize that I am actually doing them a favor by keeping them on their toes with me so that they don't even accidentally turn their back on me. I am a very skilled backstabber.
These people must never forget that I am the biggest threat to their lives. But I will never let them realize that the person who is protecting them from me is not the Alpha, but me myself.
I am the enemy and I am the savior.
Yeah, I know. It's pretty confusing and complicated. It took me years to get used to the idea so I can't expect anyone who doesn't know the full story to understand what's going on.
"So where do I go?" I asked. See, I am a very practical person. I don't dwell too much on things. I do what makes me happy and I adjust to whatever the situation has for me. It's a simple life.
"You are going to go live with humans. As a human." Rowan said. "But you will be watched at all times so don't even think about doing anything."
"I don't think human me will actually stand a chance against werewolves." I shrugged. Of course, I had a tiny bit of fear in me. The thing is, the pack members would not hurt me because I am their Luna and at the end of the day, I am the only one who can actually give them an heir, BUT everyone... and I mean everyone HATES me, so given the chance it was possible that one of the werewolves who holds a grudge deeper than his loyalty towards his or her pack will take my life.
"The ones guarding you will not know that you are human." Rowan said.
I raised a brow.
Of course, this man thought all of this through. After all, no matter how much this wolf hated me, he could not really do anything about the fact that I am the only she-wolf who could bear his children.
I would be dead a long time ago if this was not the case.

"I am fine with anything as long as Maria is there with me." Not exactly true, but I feel that I will lose my charm if I simply agreed with everything that was told to me without one or two demands of my own.
I know, I am a pathetic being living a pathetic life, a shell of the powerful being that I used to be. But honestly, I would prefer being pathetic over ripping jugular veins any day.
"Of course, I will be there with you!" Maria exclaimed and then quickly turned to Rowan, bowing down and showing her neck in submission. "With your permission, Alpha."
Rowan looked confused.
Why is he being such a confused soul? Just say yes and get it over with, and get out of my sight of course. I did not enjoy looking at him!
"Yes." He said after a long pause. Did he take such a long time to simply say yes? I took lesser time to drink bubbling sewage kinda looking potion that turned me into a useless human.

"And those. And these. Definitely not that. Why did I even buy it?" I walked around my walk-in closet choosing what and what-not I will be taking with me on my small vacation away from the boring old life of mine.
"You like to randomly buy stuff when you are bored, only to lock them up in your closet and never look at it again." Maria shrugged as she continued packing my things for me.
"It's called hoarding." I shrugged.
Maria nodded and then rolled her eyes. Was this sassy b***h sassing me?
"I seriously don't see the reason why you gotta go."
"I thought Rowan already explained all of his reasons and they seem pretty... reasonable and I agree with him. And I need a break."
"Then he should have let you keep your wolf... I mean, werewolf powers. Why make you human?"
"Because he does not trust me." I shrugged. Jeez, now she was starting to annoy me. Maybe I should have gone away without her. She could be a nagging old hag at times.
"But you are human now. It is so much more dangerous. I know there will be people to protect you. I will be there to protect you. But we are going into unknown territory and I personally don't trust anyone in the pack with your life. So making you human is so risky."
I smiled. I never thought I would ever say this out loud, ever admit it the way I was going to now. "Maria, after everything that I have done. After all the people I have ruthlessly murdered, I will never be anything more than a monster. Not a werewolf. Not a human. I am just a monster. And the sooner you accept it, the sooner you will learn to not care for me so much."
"Jamie..."
"We don't have time to waste. Get to packing."
