“Your Highness, you have a visitor.”
Fixing his red handcuffs, Prince Yi Eul turned his head on the door. “Who is it?”
“Her name is Kim Jae Kyung, your highness.”
“Let her in,” as soon as she heard the Crown Prince’s voice, Jae Kyung bowed her head to one of the prince’s butlers who just opened the double doors for her.
She silently entered the room and bowed to Prince Yi Eul. “Good morning, seja-jeonha,” as soon as she raised her head, she met the crown prince’s gaze.
“So, have you decided?”
Jae Kyung sighed as she nodded. “For the sake of that book debut, yes I will. But don’t expect that I’ll be permanent in this job. I’m still going back to The Seoul Times.”
“That’s not for you to decide,” as if it was a cue, two maids entered the said room, handling the dress they brought for Jae Kyung.
The latter looked at the said dress in confusion. “What is this?”
“For your first job as my personal assistant…” Yi Eul responded. “You’ll wear that one and you’ll come with me to Thailand.”
Jae Kyung’s eyes almost fell out from the sockets. “I’m coming with you to Thailand?! Are you kidding me?!”
“Sawadee ka.”
As soon as she held the Crown Prince’s black overcoat, Jae Kyung found herself in front of an extravagant mansion—more like a castle in Thailand. She was so spaced out that she didn’t know how she agreed to come with the Crown Prince just to attend a birthday party of the King of Thailand’s daughter.
“Jae Kyung. Yah, Kim Jae Kyung! Earth to you, Kim Jae Kyung!”
Jae Kyung blinked as she finally got back to reality. She, the, looked at Prince Yi Eul dumbly. “E-Eh?”
Prince Yi Eul sighed, slightly glared at her. “I took you here with me because you’re my assistant and you’re acting like that? Focus.”
Jae Kyung slightly rolled her eyes and gritted her teeth, trying to flaunt a smile. “I told you that I’m no personal assistant. I’m a journalist!”
Prince Yi Eul gawked at her, almost whispering. “Did you just roll your eyes in front of His Royal Highness’ presence?!”
“Jeonha, gaebbul,” she mumbled to herself as she secretly made a face. (*Royal Highness, yeah right. (more like translated as ‘ridiculous’.))
Prince Yi Eul was about to reprimand her once again, but he paused midway when he saw that someone is approaching them. “*Ong rat cha tha yard haeng kao lee tai you thee nee laew. Nai thee sud than gor ma thee nee lae.” (*The Crown Prince of South Korea is here. You’re finally here, Your Highness.)
“*Sawadee krap Fah Baht, khob pra thai thee chern kra mom ma,” Prince Yi Eul greeted the King of Thailand, then he bowed and offered him a handshake. (*Hello, Your Majesty. Thank you so much for inviting me.)
Oh-kay… now I don’t understand anything here. Jae Kyung thought as she silently sighed.
“*Mai pen rai, mai pen rai,” the King of Thailand smiled at him as he accepted the handshake. His gaze settled on Jae Kyung who was standing almost behind Prince Yi Eul like a lost puppy. (*It’s nothing, it’s nothing)
Jae Kyung couldn’t help but gasp.
“*Oh, mee yung ngam kiang khang khun duay, punraya khun rue?” the King of Thailand asked, smiling at the journalist. (*Oh, you have a beautiful maiden beside you. Is she your wife?)
Prince Yi Eul shook his head and smiled. “*Mi chai Fah Baht, ther kue pooh chuay khong phom,” Yi Eul turned his head on his assistant and eyed her. (*No, Your Majesty. She’s my assistant.)
Jae Kyung slightly quirked her left brow. “Mwo?”
With a smile and gritted teeth, Prince Yi Eul managed to talk to her. “*Geureul majihada. Geuneun Taeguge wangida.” (*Greet him. He’s the King of Thailand.)
Jae Kyung’s eyes slightly widen. Oh. My. God. She’s facing the King of Thailand. In flesh. “Sa-Sawadee ka, Faa bat.”(*He-Hello, Your Majesty.)
She really thanked God she watched Thai movies and slightly learned from those.
“*Wa dee,” the King smiled and nodded at her. When the King’s attention is on Yi Eul once again, she sighed in relief. (*shorten form for ‘Sawadee’)
“Chai khap,” Prince Yi Eul nodded and slightly bowed at the King. When the King walked away from them, he turned his head to Jae Kyung. “His Majesty called me to talk to other officials. You stay here.”
“Can I just go home?”
“You know the way to our suite? I don’t think so.”
“You know what, you should go before His Majesty will get mad at you,” Jae Kyung waved her hand, dismissing him.
“You really have the audacity to stand bravely at the Crown Prince, huh?” Prince Yi Eul smirked at her and followed the King.
Ugh, that arrogant prince. Jae Kyung rolled her eyes once again and shook her head. She slightly fixed the off-shoulder part of her red dress and rubbed her both arms, almost hugging herself. She looked around, seeing people talking to one another, and there she is, in the middle of the ballroom feeling so alone.
Alone. The same feeling when she was a kid.
The feeling that she has no place for anyone.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath and without a second thought, she went out of the mansion.
As soon as she’s finally out of the mansion, she finally heaved a deep sigh. “Finally.”
Jae Kyung looked at the fountain that’s now reflecting the full moon’s light then she looked up.
Who would thought she could see such beautiful moonlight in a foreign country?
She couldn’t help but smile and adore it, savoring the silence around her.
Who would thought that she’ll come to this state?
She’s just a journalist, working in a huge newspaper outlet in Korea and was assigned to interview the Crown Prince, almost got a fight with him because of that picture of him and a girl group member, saving his life from those assassins chasing him and now, she’s officially His Royal Highness's personal assistant.
Wow, what a life, Kim Jae Kyung.
“Kyaaah!” Jae Kyung shrieked and almost punch the man beside him when he poked her cheek out of nowhere.
“Woah, woah, what the—are you really serious? Do you want to punch His Royal Highness’ face? Damn, your audacity indeed,” Prince Yi Eul slightly took a step back and slightly raised his right hand to defend himself from the punch. “I should really bring my bodyguard around me next time.”
Jae Kyung hastily put her hand down. “It’s your fault though, poking my cheek like that. Hmph.”
“Why did you step out? You’re my assistant so you shouldn’t be out of my sight,” Prince Yi Eul asked, kinda looked annoyed.
“It’s just suffocating inside and I have no one to talk to. And I don’t understand anything that those aristocrats were talking so I stepped out,” Jae Kyung responded, shrugging.
“Wow,” Yi Eul muttered. “You’re talking to me without any formalities? You have some guts, huh?”
Jae Kyung faced him and like those maidens on historical dramas, she bowed her head. “*Joesonghamnida, seja-jeonha.”(*formal form for ‘I’m sorry’ or ‘I apologized’.)
Prince Yi Eul kept silent for a second and stared at her. He then smirked and gave her a highball glass. “Here. For you, I got you some wine.”
Jae Kyung took the glass Prince Yi Eul gave her. With creasing brows, she looked at the prince. “Uh… where’s the wine?”
“You should be thankful I gave you a glass,” the Crown Prince smirked at her and walked away. “C’mon assistant, let’s go back.”
Jaw-dropped, Jae Kyung’s eyes switched from the glass to Prince Yi Eul’s back. “What the actual…?”
He sure is a jerk. Too jerk to be a prince!
