오십 여섯의 왕관 (56)       “I wish you’re not alive! Both of you! I wish you’re not alive!” “Stop pestering my life and just die!” Jae Kyung could still remember all those words. Not just those words, but also the memories… those painful memories that she already buried deep inside her. She wanted to forget… all of it. But then, destiny didn’t allow her to do so. Because right now, she’s seeing the very least person that she wanted to see. Her eyes widen. Her expression totally changed as she felt shivers on her spine. She trembled and she felt weak that she even dropped the Odeng-guk. Prince Yi Eul noticed that he spoke at her. “Hey, you’re food—” “Jae Kyung…” Prince Yi Eul noticed it and for the first time. He saw how terrified Jae Kyung was. Before Jae Kyung could actually faint on the spot, she turned to Prince Yi Eul trying to hide herself. Anxiety attacks. “Y-Your Highness…” Jae Kyung was about to hold Prince Yi Eul’s jacket but he was quick to actually hold her hand and reach for her back. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?” Prince Yi Eul whispered at her, trying not to gain the attention of the people around them. “Geuga yeogi ittta…” Jae Kyung said between her heavy breathing. Trembling, she managed to hold the Crown Prince’s hand tight. “He-He’s here…” “Who?” “A-Appa…” Prince Yi Eul’s expression suddenly changed as soon as he heard her response. “Where?” “Be-Behind us. He’s with a lady in a white coat and a ten-year-old kid,” she said, still trembling on the Crown Prince’s hold. “Oh, dad! It’s Odeng-guk! I want to eat!” Prince Yi Eul saw the man Jae Kyung was talking about looking in their direction while the ten-year-old kid, which they both assumed that it’s her dad’s son, was excitedly pointing at the food stall. “No, sweetheart. I told you that’s we’re going to a dinner appointment today,” the lady in a white coat, which they also assumed, as her dad’s new wife said. “Aigoo, yeobo. Let him be. Besides, Odeng-guk is both our favorite. You know that.” Jae Kyung flinched when she heard her biological dad’s voice for the first time after long years of not seeing him. He never failed to make him tremble in fear. “Y-Your Highness…” Jae Kyung whispered, obviously having a hard time breathing. “Please, let’s go home. Please.” “Okay. Let’s go home,” Prince Yi Eul responded. He, then, took off his jacket and wrapped it around Jae Kyung then they walked towards the car. “Young man, you forgot your change!” the vendor shouted, calling him as she showed the paper bills she’s holding. Prince Yi Eul turned his head towards her and smiled. “Keep the change, ahjumma.” “Is your girlfriend okay, young man?” Prince Yi Eul turned his head to the lady in a white coat who’s now talking to him right now. Both Jae Kyung’s dad and his kid were actually looking at them right now. “I noticed that she’s trembling even from this distance. Is she okay? I could check her. I’m a doctor, by the way.” Prince Yi Eul couldn’t help but felt bitter after he heard the lady and flashed a slight glare at Jae Kyung’s dad who actually frowned at him. For someone who killed his own first wife because of too much abuse and left his daughter, you didn’t really deserve to be this happy. “No, it’s okay, Ma’am. Thank you so much for the offer. My wife just felt so cold that’s why I need to take her home. I don’t actually want my wife and my baby to get sick. I don’t want to abandon them,” Prince Yi Eul said, smiling at the lady as he saw how Jae Kyung’s dad flinched when he said that. He, then, turned to Jae Kyung who was still trembling. “I’m sorry for not bringing an extra coat for you, wife. C’mon, let’s go home. I’ll make you some of your favorite soup at home,” after saying such, he immediately carried Jae Kyung like a bride as the latter hugged him tight and buried her face on the crook of his neck. He slightly turned his head to bow at the lady then walked towards his car, leaving them without looking back.     Jae Kyung woke up with only dim lights in the room she’s in. It took him half a minute to finally adjust her sight and realized that she’s actually inside her room. She didn’t remember how she’s actually inside her room. What she remembered is that Prince Yi Eul dragged her to eat with him at Myeondong because the guy was craving for Odeng-guk and then she saw him. She saw her biological dad. That made her feel a shiver once again that she sat up on her bed, slightly panting. She slightly flinched when she felt hands holding her arm—the other hand was holding her hand while the other one was caressing her arm. “Did I wake you up? I’m sorry, I was just trying to ease you’re trembling. This is what halma-mama taught me to do,” she turned her head to Prince Yi Eul who was actually massaging her arm. She was still trembling but compared to earlier, this was quite bearable. Somehow, she found it comfortable. Maybe because of the Crown Prince’s warmth. “I don’t want to ask you if you’re okay because I know you’re not,” Prince Yi Eul added as he continued to massage both of her hands, trying to soothe her palms. “But I genuinely want you to be okay right now. I actually want you to tell me anything related to that guy because I have the right to know to but… as much as I have the pushy attitude… I respect your privacy. Just tell me when you’re ready.” Jae Kyung couldn’t help but smile. She’s been working with him for months now and she’ll admit that somehow, this side of the Crown Prince still shocks her… but made her a bit happy at the same time. “Thank you, Your Highness…” Prince Yi Eul paused and turned his gaze to Jae Kyung who was now—albeit it’s weak for his liking—smiling at him right now. “Thank you for saving me earlier…” Prince Yi Eul gently cupped her left cheek and using his thumb, he gently caressed her cheek as well. Jae Kyung gently closed her eyes and leaned on the Crown Prince’s touch. She gently caressed the young Jae Kyung’s cheek as she spoke. “You will always be my beautiful princess, Jae Kyung-ah.” A sniffle filled the silent space between them. Prince Yi Eul felt Jae Kyung’s tears rolling down her cheeks and he heard a sob. Before Jae Kyung could fall on her bed to cry, Prince Yi Eul gently pulled her towards him and gave her a warm embrace, trying to ease her pain and worries away. “Eomma…” she muttered between her sobs. “She’s not here…” Prince Yi Eul said as he hugged Jae Kyung. “She’s not here… but I am here. I will always be here…” Even just for a short time, I’ll be here.
