서른 아홉 번째 왕관 (39)       “Ta-dah! This is the place!” “Eoseo osipssio, Jeonha,” the royal servants greeted Prince Yi Eul as te bowed their heads. (*Welcome, Your Royal Highness) Prince Yi Eul couldn’t help but frown as soon as they finally came to the place Jae Kyung wanted to go. He turned his head towards her who’s actually grinning at her. He, then, pointed to his servants who were bowing in their presence. “So you are telling me that you wanted to eat here? At a park?” Is she f*****g kidding me?! This place is a goddamn public place! “Good afternoon, Your Highness, Jae Kyung-agassi.” “Yes! We’ll have a picnic!” Jae Kyung said as she happily opened her arms. “I’m actually getting sick of you eating on fancy indoors so might as well, you’ll gonna breathe some fresh air by having a picnic! Motjjiji anni???” (*Isn’t it nice?) Before the Crown Prince could utter a word, Jae Kyung added. “And~ you don’t have to worry about people since I made sure that no one’s actually coming here,” she, then, turned her head to Do Wan. “Of course, even if you’re the Crown Prince of South Korea, you must at least live a life such as experiencing things like this.” “Like… picnic? I’ve been doing this ever since I’m a kid.” “Yeah, having a picnic in your courtyard. Prsh, boring. You have to live a life, you know? And that includes having a picnic in a normal public park. So you can also relate to how commoners live and do things, just like us. It’s not a bad thing, you know? You have to live your life sometimes, Your Highness. Right, Do Wan?” Do Wan smiled and bowed at her. “Ne, Agassi.” “Since when did you two become close?” With chin up, Jae Kyung asked. “Why? Are you the only one allowed to be close to Do Wan, Your Highness? Hmph. I wanna be friends with your servants and you can’t stop me on that~ ANYWAY, wipe that frown from your face and let’s eat! I’m starving!” as soon as Jae Kyung clapped, the servants prepared the food on the picnic mat they actually prepared and Prince Yi Eul didn’t do anything but just stare at them, totally dumbfounded that Secretary Jeong and Do Wan couldn’t help but chuckle in silent. “Oh, right! The cookies!” “What cookies?” Prince Yi Eul frowned while looking at Jae Kyung who seemed in a hurry. “The yakgwa cookies! I know you want to eat those. You’ve been bugging me to make those cookies,” Jae Kyung responded then she hurriedly ran towards the people-empty table to get the basket which she happily opened to check the content inside.     “Are you sure it’ll work this time? And what plan is it, then?” “If we can’t kill the Crown Prince this time, we could kill his fiancée first.”     Jae Kyung was grinning happily while holding the basket full of yakgwa cookies she made for everyone. “Here are the cookies!” Suddenly, Do Wan ran towards her which actually shocked everyone—especially Jae Kyung. “Joshimhae!” Before Jae Kyung could utter a word, Do Wan suddenly hugged her and they both fell on the grassy ground. As the basket fell on the ground, scattering all the yakgwa cookies that Jae Kyung made, they heard a gunshot. The servants shrieked and covered their ears because of the loud gunshot. Do Wan hugged Jae Kyung securely while the latter is covering her ears and he managed to pull his gun shoot it somewhere. “Your Highness, please hide!” one of Prince Yi Eul’s bodyguards said as his bodyguards surrounded him and tried to hide and shield him but he didn’t budge. He just stared at Do Wan and Jae Kyung, dumbfounded. He clicked his tongue. He’s sure as heck that he didn’t manage to shoot the gunman. “Damn it,” he turned his head to his co-bodyguards. “Go to that hill and search him! I’m sure he didn’t go further!” “Yes, sir!” eight of the bodyguards responded and they went straight to the hill which Do Wan talked about. Do Wan looked at Jae Kyung and held her both arms, scanning her for possible injuries that they need to tend to. “Gwaenchanhayo, Agassi?” (*Are you okay, Miss?) “Ye-Yes…” Jae Kyung stuttered, slightly trembling because of shock. “Wha-What happened?” “Someone was trying to assassinate you and possibly, the His Royal Highness as well. It was a sniper,” Do Wan responded. “E-Eh?! Me?! Assassinate?!” “Yes, Agassi. But don’t worry, you’re safe now.” Jae Kyung took a deep breath and sighed as Do Wan trying to comfort her and some of the royal servants went to her to tend her. “Are you okay, Your Highness?” Prince Yi Eul turned his head to Secretary Jeong when he seemed responsive at that moment. Am I okay? He stared silently at his secretary then settled his gaze once again to Jae Kyung. He didn’t do anything. He shouldn’t be concern about anyone else but himself. But for some reason, he felt something heavy on his chest seeing Jae Kyung was saved by another man.     Jae Kyung was not actually traumatized about what happened earlier. She got shocked and scared, yes, she’ll admit that but not to the point that they’ll call it traumatizing for her part. “Seriously, His Highness shouldn’t really bother to call a doctor for me. I’m fine. I didn’t get shot,” she thought as she walked towards the Crown Prince’s study room (more like his own private library, if Jae Kyung is going to describe it). She was actually worried about the Crown Prince too (not super worry. Just worried) since it might be another attempt assassination for the Crown Prince because it was a sniper. So, she decided that before going home, she’ll check Crown Prince Yi Eul first. When she’s finally in front of the study room’s door, she knocked. She didn’t know why the Crown Prince didn’t let the servants stand in front of the door but it’s actually a relief for her since she doesn’t really like the announcing before entering the Crown Prince’s place. Jae Kyung took a deep breath before knocking. “Your Highness, it’s me, Kim Jae Kyung. Can I come in?” There’s a long silence on the other side of the room but Jae Kyung waited until she heard a muffled “Yes” before opening the door. She silently went inside and closed the door. She noticed that the Crown Prince was sitting on the couch silently. “Good evening, Your Highness,” she greeted. Prince Yi Eul kept his silence so she continued talking. “Umm, the servants already prepared your dinner so I just came here to tell you that. Ah, wait. I also came here to check on you if you’re okay because you know, what happened earlier. I just want to know if you’re okay before I’ll go home.” Prince Yi Eul is still silent. Jae Kyung felt the awkward atmosphere around them and she’s not used to it so she cleared her throat and talked once again. “You-You don’t actually have to make me see a doctor, you know? I’m fine. I’m shocked and got scared, yes but you don’t really need to go ask a doctor to check on me. It’s not really that traumatic,” she laughed. “Seems like being your fake fiancée can actually take me to an action movie experience, you know?” “Shut up.” Jae Kyung abruptly went silent but she managed to talk again. “Bu-But, I really hope you’re okay now, Your Highness. Not that I’m worried or something, you know? I am still your personal assistant so it’s my duty to check on you and also to protect you. Hahaha! I could be an action star in the making.” “I said, shut up!” Jae Kyung gasped when Prince Yi Eul stood up and glared at her. She even took a step backward when he walked towards her. “Seriously, you’re getting into my nerves.” What the heck, I was just trying to lighten the heavy atmosphere between us! “I’m sorry—” before Jae Kyung could finish her sentence, Prince Yi Eul suddenly pulled her closer to him and hugged her. He’s hugging her tightly as if his life depended on it. Jae Kyung was so shocked about it. For someone who disliked her, this is totally not it. This is so confusing for her. “P-Prince Yi Eul…” she trailed off. “You have no idea…” he mumbled as he hugged her securely. “How I’m so f*****g frustrated at that time.” “What…?”     “Do Wan…” “Yes, Your Highness?” Do Wan responded as he bowed at Prince Yi Eul. “I thank you for saving Jae Kyung,” Prince Yi Eul said. “But next time, don’t do it again.” Confused and shocked, Do Wan asked. “If it’s okay to ask, why, Your Highness?” “Whatever happens, don’t do it again,” Prince Yi Eul responded, in a firm voice. “I will be the one to protect my fiancée from now on.”     “This is so f*****g frustrating…” he mumbled, still hugging Jae Kyung as if his life depended on it. You’re so confusing. Your mood swings are really confusing.  Haah, naega eottoke neoreul jeongmal sangdaehal su isseulkka? Sighing, Jae Kyung responded to his hug. She may sound weird but she finds the Crown Prince’s hug and warmth comfortable. “Jae Kyung…” “What is it, Your Highness?” He buried his face on her neck. “I hate you. I hate you so much.” Jae Kyung wanted to laugh but for some reason, she felt bitter when she chuckled. “If you hate me, then why are you hugging me like this?” “I hate you so much… and it’s goddamn frustrating me,” he responded, still didn’t want to let go of her. “Yeah, whatever. Hate me if you want. But I just want to tell you... that I don’t really hate you, Your Highness,” Jae Kyung confessed. The Crown Prince remained silent but he’s still hugging her that she couldn’t help but sigh as she patted his back. You’re so confusing. Seriously, how could I really deal with you, Your Highness?
