열세번째 왕관(13)
“Good morning, Cha Do Wan-ssi.”
“Good morning. Is His Royal Highness already awake?”
“Yes, sir.”
Do Wan is really incomparable to other bodyguards of the Crown Prince for he is strong and reliable. Strong, meant, military strong.
He’s been working with Crown Prince Yi Eul ever since Prince Yi Eul started studying masters in London. He’s actually at the same age as Yi Eul and he’s been loyal and respectful towards Prince Yi Eul. Prince Yi Eul, on the other hand, trusted Do Wan more than any of his bodyguards that his grandma appointed him to have. He somehow has the deepest bond with the Crown Prince himself.
We shall say, he’s the Royal Highness’ childhood friend.
Do Wan took a deep breath as he’s now facing the Crown Prince’s room. After what happened, Prince Yi Eul was actually home-treated for two days already.
“Jeonha, Cha Do Wan-ui chajawatsseumnida,” Prince Yi Eul’s royal servants announced. (*Your Highness, Cha Do Wan is here to see you.)
“Let him in,” Prince Yi Eul responded.
The royal servants opened the door and as Cha Do Wan entered, he bowed. As soon as the door closed, Do Wan gave the folder he’s holding to Prince Yi Eul. “We barely found anything aside from the nerve agent and the destroyed window locks of your car, Your Highness.”
Prince Yi Eul opened the envelope and looked at the contents inside which are some photos and few documents. “No trace of the assassin?”
“He really seemed profession,” Do Wan answered. “The Princess’ household has tight security as yours, Your Highness so it’s really unusual that no one was alerted about the intruder. Not unless…”
“Not unless?” Prince Yi Eul slightly quirked his left eyebrow.
“This is just my speculations, Your Highness but I think this is an inside job,” Do Wan said.
“You think one of the royal blood is after my head?” Prince Yi Eul asked.
“Just my speculations, Your Highness but as I calculated everything, it seems like it’s really an inside job,” Do Wan responded.
Prince Yi Eul took the envelope down and crossed his arms as he leaned on the headboard of his bed. He, then, smirk. “They’ll be going to brace themselves. Because I’m not really fond of disappointing the nobles.”
The both of them looked at the door when suddenly, Jae Kyung entered with two cups of tea. “Uh, tea for everyone?”
Dowan and Prince Yi Eul looked at each other and the latter responded. “Sure.”
Jae Kyung grinned and went straight to the table beside the Crown Prince’s bed.
“You can leave now, Do Wan-ah,” Prince Yi Eul said as he waved his hand dismissing Do Wan.
Do Wan bowed to both of them. “Ye, jeonha.”
“Wait!” Jae Kyung stopped him. “Stay for a while. I’ll give you something.”
Blinking in confusion, Do Wan responded. “But Jae Kyung-ssi, I—”
“Just wait, it’ll be quick!”
Do Wan stared at Prince Yi Eul and Prince Yi Eul just nodded in response. Do Wan just bowed his head in response.
“You did it again. I told you, you can’t enter my room unless you’re announced with the royal servants,” Prince Yi Eul said as he frowned at her.
Jae Kyung cleared her throat and bowed at the Crown Prince. “Jeonha, Kim Jae Kyung-ui chajawatsseumnida~” she made a face. “They’re taking so long so I entered and I know you’re already hungry because your maids also told me that you’re declining your dinner.”
“You—” Jae Kyung just grinned at him and walked towards Do Wan who actually flinched on her presence.
“Here, you should eat up, Do Wan-ssi before you leave,” Jae Kyung offered Do Wan some cookies. Do Wan blinked at her innocently (which she actually finds adorable) and eyed the Crown Prince again. He looked back at Jae Kyung and bowed. “Thank you.”
“Eh? You only took one? Just take three!” Jae Kyung said as she put two more of the cookies on Do Wan’s palm.
Do Wan gave her a tiny smile before his expression came back to a blank face. “Gomapseumnida, Agassi.”
“Aigoo~ you can just call me Jae Kyung, you know? We’re just co-workers except that I’m not a bodyguard.”
Prince Yi Eul interrupted them with a loud clearing of his throat so Jae Kyung turned her head towards him and grinned as she walked back towards him and offered another plate of cookies to him. “Wangjangnim~ here’s your cookies~”
Prince Yi Eul blinked in confusion. “What’s wrong with you?”
“What?”
“Stop using that voice.”
“What’s wrong with my voice?”
Prince Yi Eul made a face like he ate something bitter and spoke. “It’s cringy.”
“Wow. Fresh coming from you, Your Highness,” Jae Kyung clicked her tongue and gave the plate of cookies to him. “Eat it up. Your royal servants are still cooking your meal.”
“And here I thought you cooked something for me to eat,” Prince Yi Eul said as he frowned.
“Yes. I cooked something for you,” she pointed to the cookies. “That.”
Prince Yi Eul picked one of the cookies and stared at it. “*Yakgwa? You made this?” (*Yakgwa is a traditional Korean sweet and it’s usually shaped into some sort of flower design if you’re buying it in a store. It’s deep-fried and very sweet, so it’s more of a dessert than an everyday cookie, and it was traditionally served at ceremonies, celebrations, and on special occasions. ‘Yak’ means medicine and ‘Awa’ means confection/sweet. It literally means medicinal confection.)
Jae Kyung nodded. “My auntie actually taught me how to make that one and since you’re sick, I made it for you to feel better.”
“Uh, Jae Kyung-ssi, His Highness is really fond of sweet—” Do Wan stopped as he and Jae Kyung stared at Prince Yi Eul who’s now nibbling it in chubby cheeks like a kid.
Both of them clutched on their chests.
Gi-Gwiyeowo…
This is the first time they saw Prince Yi Eul like that.
Prince Yi Eul raised his head on them and from his innocent-like expression, it changed to an arrogant glare towards them. “What are you looking at?!”
“No-Nothing,” both of them responded.
“Are you sure you didn’t poison this?” Prince Yi Eul asked as he showed the bitten Yakgwa cookie.
What the… Jae Kyung’s mouth agape as she responded. “Yah, wangjangnim, after eating two pieces, you’ll gonna doubt me that I poisoned you? You’re so terrible!”
Prince Yi Eul shrugged. “I’m just making sure,” then he proceeded in eating the cookies without caring about Do Wan and Jae Kyung staring at him.
Jae Kyung had the urge to knock his head but she just took a deep breath and glared at him.
This arrogant prince is really getting into my nerves… seriously.
The lady dressed in a black silky robe is currently sipping her wine while looking a the glass window and see the city lights visible in her room. A man just stood at the corner of her bed and let the silence consume them.
“He’s like a cat with nine lives. He’s too hard to die,” the woman said after she took a sip on her red wine.
“What shall we do, Madame?”
“Let him enjoy his life right now. It’s a shame for him to die that he barely stayed here in Korea. I’ll make sure that the next time he’ll get assassinated, he’ll never wake up again.”
