Chapter Twelve... The Garden Part Four

1539 Words
I rushed to the garden as fast as my little legs would carry me. I didn't want Asmodeus to wait any longer than he already had. I saw the cave entrance and ran through skidding to a stop. "Asmodeus? Asmodeus? I'm here. Where are you?" I said, trying to catch my breath. There was nothing but silence. I looked around frantically, but the garden was empty. "Please, I'm sorry. It wasn't my fault. Please answer me." I sniffled as tears welled in my eyes. I waited for as long as I could, but he never came. He must have been so disappointed when I didn't show up that he went back through the door. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please don't be mad at me. My parents showed up and wouldn't take no for an answer. I had to spend the day with them. I swear I came as soon as I could." I spoke out loud even though I was basically speaking to myself. Just as I was getting up to leave, I heard a shuffle of feet and turned around to find Asmodeus walking through the door and looking at me in shock. "ASMODEUS!" I cried out as I ran over to him and crashed into his body. I held on tightly, sobbing uncontrollably. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please forgive me." He brought his hand up and lifted my chin with his fingers. "Shhh... calm my little one. Please don't cry. I forgive you, my sweet girl. I know you didn't forget about me. I knew something must have happened. I wasn't expecting you this evening, so I actually came to surprise you with flowers for tomorrow, but instead, I find you." Asmodeus says warmly as he lets go and sits down on the grass, patting the space next to him. I wipe my tears away and run over and sit next to him. "So tell me about your day, little one," Asmodeus said roughly. I knew he was disappointed that I didn't spend it with him, but I explained what happened, and he said he understood. "Can I show you something?" Asmodeus asked calmly. "Of course. I would love to see whatever you want to show me." I said excitedly. He grabbed my hand and placed it on his chest, where his heart was beating erratically. I gasped sharply when it began beating even faster when my hand was placed there. "It only beats like this for you. I still am so confused as to why, but you are very important to me, sweet girl. I'm still trying to figure out why, but once I find out, you will be the first to know. Come, I want to take you somewhere. Don't worry, though. I will always protect and keep you safe. Do you trust me?" Asmodeus said with a fierceness that sent chills through my entire body. I nodded my head without hesitation. "I trust you with everything inside me," I said softly, "I know you won't let anyone harm me." "Wrap your arms around me. I want to show you something from up above," he said, smiling warmly. I grinned excitedly and wrapped my arms around his waist. He spread his wings, and we rose from the ground softly. "Don't be scared. I will not let you go," he said with a smile. I nodded my head and held him tightly. We flew into the sky, and I laughed loudly when the air hit my face. He chuckled lightly and just sighed contentedly. It was exhilarating to feel like I had wings and could fly. Asmodeus flew me all around until I was gasping for air from all the laughing and screaming I was doing. It was the best day of my life. I could get used to days like this. Once he felt like it was time to stop, he flew back to the cave. Once we landed, I stomped my foot and pouted. "I want to go again, Asmodeus. Please take me again." He ran his knuckles down my cheek and smiled softly. "No, sweet girl. Another day I will take you again. I am exhausted, and I don't want to place you in danger with recklessness." I just frowned but nodded my head in understanding. "Alright. You promise you'll take me again soon?" I whined. He chuckles and then nods his head. "I promise little one. Cross my black little heart." "Asmodeus! Please don't say things like that. You don't have a black heart. You're a beautiful creature, and I will never understand why people look at you in such a horrible way. You have so much love inside of you that it bursts at the seams." I said sternly. "You are kind of amazing. Do you know that?" he said in awe, "You are the only person I have ever heard say that about our kind. You are truly a rare specimen." My cheeks heated with embarrassment, and I turned away abruptly. "No, you are not allowed to hide from me, Addison. Whether I understand it or not, you are mine. All of you. I will wait for you forever if I have to but don't you dare hide from me. Do you understand? You belong to me." Asmodeus growled angrily. My head snapped in his direction, and my eyes grew wide with shock. Did he just say that I was his? That he would wait for me forever? "D-did, you really just say what I think you just said?" I stammered out. "I did," he said dangerously low. "Am I y-your mate?" I asked cautiously. He looked at me and tilted his head to the side. "Mate? You mean like soulmates?" he says cautiously. "Yes. Exactly like that. I have been doing research at the library, but I haven't gotten very far, but from what I did find, demons have mates, even though it is a rarity. They are possessive and very protective of their mate. There is a special pull that forms when they first meet and forces them together and helps them form an unbreakable bond. Then they are marked, and the demon claims his mate." I whispered softly as my cheeks turned red again. "Sweet girl, I know what mates are and their purpose, but what I don't understand is why you would think that I was your mate," he said roughly. "Just from the way you are and the things you say. You say I am yours. That I belong to you. Then you always tell me that there is something different about me, plus you say there is something there pulling me towards you that you don't understand. I feel the same way about you, but I was always afraid to say anything. I am just a child. I was afraid you would turn me away and not feel the same as I do." I whispered painfully as a tear slipped past my cheek. He lifted my chin with his fingers and then wiped the tear away with the pad of his thumb. "Hmmm... that is a very interesting thought. It could be a possibility, but I wonder why I don't feel the pull like I am supposed to feel. I have no burning need to mark you, and I would never claim you until you were old enough. I must talk to Lucifer about this. He may have a few things to add, or he might know why I don't feel it. Will you give me time to properly look into this?" he said with a determined tone. "Yes, I will give you all the time you need," I said, smiling because I was happy that he was even thinking about it. "Come, it is time for you to go home. We don't want your parents to get mad at you and find out about our time together. Do we?" he said sternly. I shook my head frantically. "No, they would forbid me from coming and find a way to stop me from coming. I don't want to ever lose you, Asmodeus. Mate or not. I am yours as you are mine." I said sternly. He led me to the cave entrance and then kissed my forehead softly. "Be careful and safe, my sweet girl. Until tomorrow or the day after. Now go home and rest for me. Okay?" he said sternly. "Okay, Asmodeus. I will see you soon. I... love you." I said and heard him gasp sharply, then I ran for home before I opened more of my heart, because I was completely and irrevocably in love with Asmodeus, and if I stayed any longer, I may not want to go home ever again and I knew that that was impossible at the moment because I was only thirteen, but I would wait for him for the rest of my life if that's what it took for us to be together. My heart was his completely. I was his, even if I had to wait. Little did I know that the following summer would be the worst summer of my entire life and would take me away from the one thing that meant the most to me in this whole world. Asmodeus.
