There was trouble?
What could be the reason for May’s agitation?
May and Kane both exchanged a look that Anna couldn't understand, then May walked past an a stood directly in front of the Alpha.
“It has to be in private, Kane.”
Anna didn't think May had it in her to sound so gentle as she spoke to Kane but then again it took Anna only two days to figure out that the woman was two-faced.
“Just tell me what the issue is, there's no one here,”
No, he wasn't necessarily dismissing her presence, he was rather making it clear to May that whatever she said in front of Anna could not be used in any way. After all, she knew no one, and even though she had the plans in her head, she had no means of escaping, yet.
May crossed her arms over her chest and gave a tight-lipped smile.
“If you say so,” She said.
“An unidentified Pack has breached our borders, they seem to have heard about GreyThorn…” Her eyes drifted to Anna, “…having the Wolf spirit here with us, maybe they’ve come to claim what isn’t theirs,”
Anna swallowed uncomfortably, bit her lip and her gaze darted away from the people who were in front of her.
“I will handle it,” Kane declared.
His voice was low, just like it had been at the table, and every hint of anger in his voice was no longer there.
“I need you to take Anna to the Warlocks once you are done with breakfast and please get Tony to come to my office so we can rectify this border issue,”
By rectifying he probably meant destroying the pack the same way they did with Bullhorn. The thought of it still gave her shivers, the sight that she was met with that day.
"Ok, anything else I can do to assist?”
“That’ll be all, May.” Kane replied. “Thank you,”
They both sounded so formal to each other but yet Anna could feel some sort of affection from Kane’s tone…it didn’t sit well with her but then again, nothing concerning May sat well with her.
May smiled, Anna wished she didn’t notice it and also wished she could push away that faint sense of jealousy she felt in her chest.
He isn’t even yours to begin with!
She mentally berated herself.
May turned to look at Anna with that tight lipped smile that made her look extremely displeased with everyone and everything.
“We should go, I’ll take you to the warlocks so we can get this all over and done with,”
The warlocks.
Anna’s eyes darted to Kane’s, to her surprise, he was staring at her, maybe waiting for her eyes to meet his.
No, that would just be wishful thinking on her part.
“Don’t forget what we talked about, Anna.”
Was that a threat or a reminder?
“You shouldn’t either,” Anna retorted.
Kane walked out of the kitchen with his usual blank expression, May waited till he was out before scoffing and then walking toward the door as well.
What’s her problem?
Anna stared long and hard at the woman’s departing back before her feet finally willed themselves to follow behind her. May didn't look back even once as they walked deeper into the maze that was their Pack house. There were so many turns and new hallways that Anna lost count and lost any sense of direction after they passed by what seemed to be the fifteenth door. The hallways were similar but yet at the same time were all intricately designed to differ from each other.
Some walls had lace-like golden ribbons pasted to the walls or perhaps they were painted onto them?
Complicated strokes and curves and that highlighted the beauty of the cream colored walls and made it a sight to behold.
Anna silently commended whoever the interior designer was that made the place look so magical.
“We’re here,”
Anna had also found a way to block out the fact that May was with her in those beautiful hallways and just let herself get lost in the art. When was the last time she’d been this close to art so unique and eye catching?
They had stopped in front of a door, tall and black and looked somewhat ominous like whatever was behind it was something no one liked. Anna had never seen wood so black before and looking closely she knew that it wasn’t painted, it stood out from the rest of the doors in the hallways they’d passed and this door...Was the only one on this floor.
“This is the shrine of the Warlocks, before we go in…there are a few things you need to know,” May began.
“You do not ever make eye contact with them, only the Alpha is allowed to do that!”
Her tone was so harsh that Anna wondered if they were actually having a conversation or argument.
May let her hands fall to her sides and let out an exasperated sigh.
“Do you understand?”
“I do,” Anna nodded, it was just the same policy with the Warlocks of Bullhorn. They all consider themselves so great and above everyone else, Anna felt it was bullshit but she also learned something valuable from her dad before they sold her.
When in Rome, you do as the Romans do, that way you’ll live longer and stay out of trouble while you’re still breathing.
“Also, you only speak when being spoken to, something it seems you have a hard time doing,”
“I only speak out of turn to keep others in their place,”
Kane wasn’t here and May was definitely not her alpha or in anyway superior to her.
Anna lifted her chin and squared her jaw, enjoying the way May’s eyes twitched and then looked away immediately.
Anna wouldn’t take being spoken to rudely, not after all of the s**t she’s had to endure for the past four years.
“That is…” May gritted her teeth, “ Exactly what I mean,” May said, she squinted her eyes and pointed at Anna.
“You better make sure you don’t f**k up in there, the warlocks are very hard to deal with and Kane doesn’t need you adding more stress to him than is required.”
“ You’re wrong about one thing,” Anna shrugged, “Kane does need me, or I would be here right now,”
Yeah, she was being petty.
Anna knew that but she just couldn’t help it. Kane spoke softly to May, a far cry from how he sounded when speaking to her.
He's her mate.
Though they’ve both agreed to never acknowledge it.
This bond was just a f*****g nuisance and now it was affecting Anna’s rationality.
May’s face was flushed the next second as her glare became as sharp as a dagger.
“Learn you place Wolf Spirit,” she sneered, “That will keep you alive long enough for you to have some use to anyone here at least,”
With that said, May reached straight for the door handle and pushed down.
The door opened and the first thing that registered was the pungent smell that came from the room through the door.
It opened completely and Anna was not prepared for the sight that met her.
