Chapter 12, Kanika:
Xorbis said, “Can we speak alone?”
Kanika had the odd crippled man brought to her ship, along with the other survivors of the sand monster attack. The old man was crazy, his senses long gone, Kanika guessed from old age. The woman was a basket case after seeing the death of her friend… Most of her crew tended to those rescued or worked to free the huge wheeled ship before the sand creatures attacked again. That left Kanika and Lizzie alone with the mage from Freeport.
“Lizzie can stay. After what happened last time we met, I’m hesitant to be alone with you.” Kanika sat at her writing table. Her fingers danced over a dagger’s handle.
