Joe's POV I was on the phone chatting with Elder Braun. He was mid-sentence when he stopped, shortly after he said "fuck." "What's up?" I stalled the original conversation to ask. "You in town?" He asked not answering mine. "Yeah, I am still sitting in the shop about to go home," I said off handily. "Maya just mind-linked me, she is at that 24-hour laundry mat. Says Mario's family just showed up." There was a growl in his words. "Mario?" I asked. I wondered about her man. "Yes her dead husband. I need you to go over there quickly. I will be about 15 minutes behind you." The growl was progressively getting deeper and stronger. "No worries, I will head over." I hung up the phone grabbed my keys and ran out the door. Three minutes later I pulled up next to her diesel truck to see a large older woman pinning her against the wall. I watched her crack the older woman twice her size in the middle of her forehead and see the man backhand her with force. I was out of the truck and running towards the door of the building when I saw him pick her up and throw her like a rag doll into the wall. It buckled as she fell, Ravi surged through my limbs adding his strength. "We can't let them do that to her!" Ravi snarled and snapped in my head. The door to the building buckled as I hit it. Breaking in pieces as I let out a thunderous growl. Everyone in there whipped around to see me. The Hispanic-looking man was my first glance followed by the women. I noted that every single one of the people I saw had all-black eyes. s**t. These were Southern Wolves. Similar to the rogue wolves we had a run in with at Maya's place. Only they grew up feral and their system was family-based, not pack-based. They were noted for being extremely violent and very brutal. Had she been married to them? Holy hell she was already a badass in my book. This just leveled it up. I called Ravi forward. It had been a long while since I had gotten a nice brawl in. His strength surged down my limbs. A deep rumbling growl erupted in my chest. "Who the hell are you!?" The male wolf asked. "A friend who doesn't like seeing Maya get hurt," I snarled. The alpha aura I normally contained tight within exploded from me. I watch the women cower. The male looked like he wanted to but held his ground. "How did she become friends with a pack wolf!" He let his canines down. His fingers turning to claws. "I wouldn't worry yourself about that." Letting my canines and claws come out. "You may not survive long enough anyway." He leaped at me as did the two older females. One of the females fell instantly as my hand flicked up and nicked her neck causing blood to pour out. The male sliced my chest, ripping my shirt and knocking me into a bank of dryers. The other female landed right next to him on top. Jerking my hand up my claws ripped open her stomach. She fell back clutching her stomach. Now it was me and the big boy. I kneed him in the gut and rolled him over the top of me. Putting myself between Maya and them. I noticed the little girl was gone. The woman with the stomach wound had moved to the woman who I could see was almost gone. I heard bones snap and regroup. Ravi instantly came forward. I met a sandy brown wolf with black spots. He wasn't as big as mine but I could see it would be a good fight. He snarled at me and snapped, lowering himself for a jump. I readied for an attack. Slamming into his charge I bit down on his shoulder and rolled. He came down with a thud and a yelp. As I repositioned, released his shoulder, biting down on the soft flesh of his neck I ripped. Regaining my legs I saw the woman with the stomach wound leaping towards me, I bit her neck my jaws ripping her head off. Blood sputtered everywhere. I was heaving with pent-up aggression. I heard a faint whimper. Ravi turned his head to see Maya's eyes flutter open and then roll back into her head. "We need to get her to the hospital," I yelled at Ravi. "Yes," Suddenly I was standing nude in the middle of the bloody scene. I grabbed a pair of sweats from the lost and found basket. Pulling them on I ran over to gently pick up Maya. "Be gentle, we cannot damage her," Ravi growled in my head. "Duh, you stupid mutt." I snarled. Leftover rage and adrenaline coursing through me. "I will ignore that last remark." Ravi huffed offended. Picking her up bridal style I pulled her close to me. The smell of fruit loops wafted up to my nose tickling something in my chest. I wasn't sure what it was. I heard a car and truck come barreling up to the building as I stood staring down at the tiny woman in my arms. Damn, she smelled good. Hearing feet coming into the building I snapped my eyes up with a growl. Realizing it was Alpha Gene and Elder Braun I immediately stopped. Walking towards them, "The southern wolf backhanded her and slammed her into the wall." I spat. "Before I could get in." "Southern Wolves," both Alpha Gene and Elder Braun looked at the scene and then back to me. "Let's get her to the pack hospital," Elder Braun was the first to recover. "Yes sir," I nodded. Walking forward I looked at Alpha Gene, "I am sorry I fought in your pack territory." I bowed my head in respect. This was the first time I have overstepped. "Warranted. I don't know anyone in my pack who could stand up to a Southern wolf let alone three." He nodded. "Well done son." Patting me on the back. "Once she is with the Doctor we will go over what happened here for now get going to the pack hospital." Alpha Gene's eyes glazed as his mind-linked someone. I took that moment to follow Elder Braun out and to his car.
