Meeting the Boss

977 Words
Saoirse changed into her jeans, sweater and tennis shes. Dominic had told her when she finished for the night Damian, the boss, wanted to talk with her in his office. She was a little nervous. She knew she had done well tonight. The money in her pocket proved that. She had gathered up $420 from off the stage , and had an envelope with a thousand dollars in it from Carlo's table after her second dance. She hoped this wasn't going to be her only night. She needed the money to pay her hospital bills and help her dad out.       She stepped out into the hallway and started walking towards the lounge area. Silver stopped her. "Hey Scott is outside waiting to give us a ride home." She smiled.      "Um, Damian asked to talk with me. Will you wait for me?" She ran her nervous hands down her thighs.      "Sure. We'll be out back." Silver patted her shoulder when she passed. "Don't walk home! Not in this neighborhood at night. Most of the time it's safe, but there are druggies who sorta hang out and will try to rip you off. Especially if they see you coming from here." Silver warned.      Saoirse nodded and then walked out into the lounge. Dominic was standing at the bar and waved her over. He drank his shot down then took her arm and led her to the stairs that led up to Damian"s office. He knocked on the door then pushed it open. "Irish, this is Damian." Was all he said as he backed out the door, closing it as he went.       She looked up into dark brown eyes. A nervous flutter in her stomach. She gave him a small smile. "Hi," She said shyly. "I'm Saoirse." She stepped forward and put her small hand out. His large one engulfed hers. The heat in his hand burned her. Electric currents thrilled up her arm and down her spine. This threw her.  She didn't expect this reaction to this man.      "Please, take a seat. I won't keep you long, I know you've had a long night. I just want to say that I was impressed by your performance tonight. I a...well honestly I want to talk to you about a more entailed position here. I'd like to make you a feature dancer. Play up your performance and make you a prime dancer here at the club."      "I don't understand." She looked at him in bewilderment. "You want me to do something else?"      He looked quietly at her. Studying her green eyes. "Well yes. I want to feature you in bigger productions. Make a real show out of your dances. You can be your own choreographer. Design your own dances and have complete control over time allotment, lighting, costumes, and music. I'd be raising the cover charge on the nights you perform and you'd receive a percentage from that as well."  He leaned forward in his chair. "You have a magic about you. The way you dance, it's...more. More everything. I'll give you a private dressing room. Whatever you need."      She sat back in her chair with her mouth open. Her green eyes wide. "But...Why?"      He licked his full lips. "There is something about you. I can't explain it. I just know I need you to dance for me. For my club." He corrected.      "OH Okay. Um can I think about it? I mean I just got here. To Chicago. I was supposed to be staying with my uncle, but, well that didn't happen." She sighed. "I just want to dance again. I just want to pay off hospital bills and help my Da. I wasn't planning anything farther than that."      "Hospital bills. Were you ill? Is that why you gave up ballet?" He watched her expression. The pain that flitted across her face.      "No, I was dropped while in rehearsals. I broke my left hip and strained my back. It ruined my chance at prima ballerina and a world tour. I'm better now, but I'll never be back to what I was. My back doesn't have the strength it once had. I'm okay with it. I'm resigned really, but thank you for your offer. I will think on it tonight and let you know tomorrow when I come in." She stood. "Um I need to get going. Silver and her boyfriend are waiting to give me a ride home."      He stood with her and walked to the door. "I really hope you consider it. It will mean more money for both the club and yourself. We can discuss it further at your convenience. I look forward to watching you on stage Miss O'Grady." He smiled warmly at her.      She blushed. Her cheeks warming. She thought to herself. "He's the most handsome man I'v ever seen." She slipped out the door and down the stairs. Walking across the lounge to the back door. Dominic was back at the bar. "Good night Irish!" He called out.      "Good night Dominic. I'll see you tomorrow." She called back with a smile on her face. She went out to the parking lot and found Silver and Scott waiting for her. She climbed into the pick up and they drove back to the loft and parked out back. Climbing out of the truck she followed the cuddling couple into the building and to the elevator. Once reaching her floor she stepped into the living room and an impromptu jam session was going on. Bodies laying on sofa's and the floor listening to a couple of singer's and guitar players bounce songs off one another. She went over to where Brady was lounging and handed him $250 cash. "For my rent." She whispered with a smile. Then she went don the hall towards her room and grabbed her night clothes and a towel then headed to the showers.
