Chapter 7 - Protecting is Not Stalking

1070 Words
Alaric's POV When I was about to climb back to my truck, Tricia, my annoying cousin, came up to me with a big smile on her face and teasing eyes. " Well, well, well, who do we have here? Aaand... what was that?" She asked, pointing at Gabby's back. " What? Nothing I was just on my way home when I passed by and saw her walking to school, so I offered to drop her off. What's wrong with that?" I answered her, trying to stay cool, but she saw past my facade. " Uhhmm, really now? So you don't have any interest or whatsoever with my best friend? As in nada?" She teasingly asked me, and I just laughed and shook my head. " Why do I get the feeling that you're stalking her then, huh?" she asked accusingly. " Protecting is not stalking!" I blurted out the truth because I panicked and was defensive, damn it. " Gotcha! Hahaha. Oh, dear cousin, you had it bad, do you? Well can't blame you, Gabby is beautiful and sexy without even trying, and she doesn't even know it. In fact, a lot of boys here wanted to take her out on a date or hang out with her, but Gabby's not interested. She blows them off right away. That's why they called her the Ice Princess. So, my dear cousin, I wish you all the luck and I will be cheering for you. Just don't come running to me if she turns you down as well." She pats my back while saying this and left smiling, spoiled brat. ****** " Hey, bestie, what's up? And why do you look so tired? Having trouble sleeping again?" Asked Tricia when she came into the room and saw her best friend, Gabby. " You can say that again." She answered and put her head on her armchair, feeling sleepy. " By the way, Gab, I saw you were coming down from cousin's truck awhile ago. What's going on? When did you two become friends?" She asked me with her curious eyes. " We're not friends per se. He just happened to pass by and saw me walking on the way to school. He offered to drop me off, I declined at first, but he is one persistent guy and takes no for an answer. Then I realized he couldn't be a bad person since he's your cousin, so I eventually accepted." I explained to her what happened and how she was smiling and looking at me creeps me out. I stared at her and raised my brows. Again she just smiled and took out her notebook and pen and faced the front, as if on cue, our teacher came in. Sometimes it's creepy how she can predict that the teacher is about to come in. At first, I thought she was a psychic or something. She just laughed at me when I told her what I thought about her and shakes her head. After our class, Tricia and I went our separate ways, and she went to her car while I stayed waiting for my dad. I will ask my dad to drop me by the cemetery to put the letter on my mom's headstone, but of course, he doesn't have to know that. I will tell him I missed mom, and I want to visit real quick. He knows that I always go to the cemetery anyway. I've been waiting for 30 minutes now, but my dad still didn't show up until my phone vibrated in my pocket. I check the caller ID and saw that it was my dad calling. I clicked the answer button right away. " Hey, Dad, where are you?" I asked him worriedly. " I'm sorry honey, I'm stuck here at the shop. Mr. Crawford brought 5 cars this afternoon to be serviced. Can you ask any of your friends to drop you off at the house instead? Don't try to walk home sweetheart, you know it's dangerous, especially it's getting dark." He told me with worry in his voice. " It's okay, dad, don't worry about me. I'll ask Tricia to send me home, and II know she'll be glad to." I lied to my dad so that he won't worry much. I looked around me and was dismayed, most of the students are gone, and there's no car parked outside. I was disappointed because I really wanted to go to the cemetery today. Then I realized I still can go, it's not that far, and it's still early. I'll try to be quick and not stay for long; yeah, I can do that. So I walked fast, almost like jogging in the direction of the cemetery. There are still cars passing by, so I'm still safe. Finally, I see the cemetery gate after a 30-minute walk/jo, and it's so quiet now. Normally there are people when she comes to visit. But because it's a little late, the cemetery is deserted, which gives her an uneasy feeling. She walked fast to her mother's grave, left the letter above her headstone, and put back the big stone to keep it from falling. " Hey mom, I'm sorry I can't stay long today. Dad will kill me if he finds out I'm not home yet when it's getting dark." It seems a little dark, especially the part of the woods, and she swore when she looked into the woods, she saw two glowing eyes looking back at her. With a thundering heart, she scrambled to her feet and walked as fast as she could out of the cemetery. She is sweating heavily now and was so scared. She scolded her hard-headed self for not listening to his dad and go straight home. She can still feel those eyes following her, and she could swear she heard a growl coming from the trees, which made her walked faster and almost run. It's getting dark now, and fewer cars are passing by. She's feeling terrified as if her heart will fall to the ground any minute for beating so fast. Then suddenly " awoooooo" s**t! Was that a howl? I didn't know there are wolves in this area! All the hairs on her body are up, and it's really getting hard to breathe. Her whole body turned icy cold. She's on the verge of crying when suddenly a hand grabbed her arm. She jumped out of fright and screamed, then she lost consciousness.
