Life is an unfair game

Isadora Davis If you ever thought for a second that your life seemed unfair, then try living my life, which was nothing but a joke. Imagine being called gifted and special but ending up being treated worse than a dog. To me, being called gifted was the polite way of saying you are a curse. What was the point of being the golden wolf when I wasn't treated any less than a slave? Even the omega, who was supposed to be the lowest of all ranks, had more privilege than I did. "Isadora, get us more lemonade!" Ashley's voice screamed from the living room, snapping me out of my never-ending pity thoughts. I don't know why exactly that b***h was always after me, but she can seem to let me breathe even for a second. Couldn't she see that I was trying my best to prepare lunch for her and her group of losers friends, except Lucas, my sweet love, who, may I add, was Ashley's boyfriend, much to my dismay. I mean, at one point in our lives, we were best friends, and I did almost everything together with her, apart from cheating, of course. One would think she would be nicer because of that and treat me a little kinder, but let me tell you something: she was the worst of them all but can't be compared to the alpha who took my parents lives right before my very own eyes. "Why do you keep taking time just to bring a cup of lemonade, or do you think just because you are the Golden Wolf makes you better than us? You are nothing but a curse," Ashley kept screaming, repeating the same words she said every day. She needed to update her dictionary if she thought she could get to me easily. I sighed, dropping the knife on the table to get what she asked before she came here and took all her hidden frustration out on me. I hurriedly walked towards the refrigerator, opened it, and yanked the jug of lemonade out. I resisted the urge to spit in the glass of juice as I tried my best to conceal my anger. Ashley was a beta daughter, which means her wolf instinct was superior, and she would probably pick up the scent of human saliva in there. If that happens, I will be dead for good. I closed the fridge and poured the lemonade juice into seven glasses. Ashley was an inconsiderate b***h who wouldn't care if I was busy or not and would still force me to do her dirty work. She and her loser friends, including Lucas, who over the years became her boyfriend through manipulation and became a changed man, always come over, insisting on me preparing their breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, and this has been going on for the past ten years of my life. Since I was the slave, I had to do as told and cook from almost morning till dawn as they ate so much and made a mess of the whole place, and at the end of the day, I had to clean up after them. I placed the lemonade on a tray and then walked to the living room, making sure to properly balance the glasses on the tray as I held them in my hands so I wouldn't end up tripping and falling flat on my face. "Uhg gosh, why do you reek of onions? OMG, the smell is awful! You make me want to puke!" Ashley shrieked, covering her nose. Of course I would smell like onions, stupid ugly b***h. I am making dinner for you, losers. I inwardly rolled my eyes at her drama, knowing that aspect of her well enough and how good of a drama queen she was. I had to bite my lips hard enough so I wouldn't end up saying what was on my mind. I dropped the jug and glasses carefully, and in a rush to leave, I turned quickly, ready to bolt out of their presence. "Let's play spin the bottle," Simon, one of Lucas friends, said. "Let Isadora join," Jessica, his girlfriend, added. I froze on the spot, hoping that one of them would disagree. I turned to look at Jessica with pleading eyes, but she had a smirk on her face and was patting the side of her chair as a sign for me to take the seat. "Oh my God, no! .... Eww, I don't want to be cursed," Ashley said, covering her nose, and Jessica rolled her eyes. 'Yeah, let Isadora join," I heard Lucas say, and I was beyond shocked; he was the last person I was expecting to say something. My heart beat faster at his words, and a blush crept to my cheeks. If you haven't figured it out, I have been in love with Lucas for years now, and even though his dad killed my parents, I couldn't stop my heart from liking him and believing he wasn't like that. He was the first person to be nice to me since I became the golden wolf, and he had always been more nice than anyone else. "Stop standing there like a dummy and take a seat," Jessica beckoned, and I obeyed, sitting beside her. They began to spin the bottle, daring each other, while I sneakily took a few glances at him. Seeing him up close, I realized how handsome he was and has changed over the years; he wasn't the little boy I knew; he was a fully developed handsome man. The game continued for a while, and minutes passed until the bottle suddenly landed and faced me. Isadora, truth or dare?" A girl named Fay, who sat beside Lucas, asked, smiling at me. Um, truth," I said, biting my nails. There was no way I would choose dare, knowing how horrible and unfair they all were and that they would give me something disgusting to do. Well, tell us the boy you have a crush on." I blushed at her questions, and my eyes unconsciously went to Lucas, who sat beside her before bending, hoping he'd get the message. I felt a burning gaze at the side of my face and turned to look at Ashley to see her frowning and smoke coming out of her ears. I smirked inwardly, happy to have gotten her all triggered up. Oh, stop being a dramatic b***h; he liked me first. I remembered all the letters we wrote to each other. I smirked at her before spinning the bottle, which landed between Simon and Lucas. "Truth or Dare?" Simon asked, staring at Lucas. "Truth," Lucas replied gingerly. "Who do you think the prettiest girl here is?" Simon asked, rubbing his palm in anticipation as he awaited his answer, and Ashley began to grin. "Isadora," he said without hesitation, and I gasped, staring at him with wide eyes. I hid a smile of contentment. The thought of Lucas still having feelings took me from earth up to cloud nine. Lucas liked me, and that's all that matters. "If she wasn't cursed and had ugly eyes and hair," he completed, and Ashley smirked. Everyone began laughing and pointing to me, and I was beyond embarrassed. I stared up at him as my face turned red from embarrassment. I remembered the sweet words he had told me when we were kids. He had told me he loved me and that my hair was the most beautiful thing in the whole world. All those letters we wrote to each other—did they not mean anything? I made an excuse about needing to finish preparing dinner, and as I left, I heard Ashley laughing her ass off as she made mockery of me. "Poor helpless girl, she had been in love with Lucas all her life and finally thought he found her to be beautiful. I don't know where she got that idea; she needs to stop dreaming." She said that, and I kept walking faster out of the room. "Baby, you should stop being nice to her so she stops harboring such thoughts," she said to Lucas, and I paused my footsteps, hoping to hear his response. "I don't know where her filthy brain got that idea from. I don't want to be cursed," he answered. His words shattered my heart, and I ran into the kitchen and began to cry without realizing it. Ashley followed behind me. "Hey, what's wrong?" I heard Ashley say, and I quickly cleaned my tears up before raising my head up to look at her. I didn't want her to know how much I was affected by her boyfriend's words. "What do you want?" I spat at her, not caring that she could hit me in the face for speaking to her in such a manner. Nothing could hurt me more than Lucas's words. "Oh, don't be so rude. We were once best friends, so I felt like checking up on my ex best friend for old time's sake," she smiled, walking closer to me. "What do you want, Ashley?" I demanded, not wanting to play her games at the moment. "Oh, I just wanted to check up on you, you know," she said, standing in front of me. "I am fine, and you don't need to waste your precious time on a slave like me." "You are right, but seeing how affected you are by my boyfriend's words, it's only normal for me to remind you of your place and who you are. I don't know where you got these ideas from. Such big dreams you have. But then, you have always been a big dreamer. Honey, this is the real world. And in the real world, you are a slave at the mercy of the alpha and pack. You don't even deserve to stand in my presence. Know your place." With that, she walked away and joined them in the living room. I was angry and furious at myself for showing her my weakness. I had been crying over this asshole, who was a coward. I hated myself for it. I finished preparing dinner, served it to them, and went to my room in the basement. I picked up a book gifted to me by Lucas on my thirteenth birthday in hopes of distracting myself, and it worked. When I got to chapter five of the book, I heard a knock on the door. I walked to it and opened it to see Lucas standing in front of me with one of his hands in his pocket. "What are you doing here?" I asked, utterly confused as to why he would be here and not with his precious girlfriend. "Can I come in?" he pleaded. I let him enter when he gave me a smile to die for, and I watched him stroll in, examining the place like a king. "Hey, I just want to say I am sorry. You are really beautiful, and I was just afraid of Ashley. You know how she is." He scratched his hair, and I nodded my head in understanding. "You know I like you; to me, you are the most beautiful girl in the pack," he said, and he held my chin up to his and whispered. I looked into his eyes, expecting to feel love, but all I felt was disgust. I did feel the tingle, but the feeling of love I had for him seemed to be disappearing. He leaned in to kiss me, and I quickly turned my head. I wouldn't be his second choice, but his first. "Lucas, no, break up with Ashley and brush your teeth properly first before you kiss me," I said, walking out of his grip and going to open the door. "Come on, Isadora, we both love each other," he said, sitting on my bed and picking up the book. "Hmmm, I don't know that you read. Where did you get this from?" I stared at him in disbelief. He couldn't even remember the book he had gotten me. How could I have ever loved him? What kind of fool was I? "Lucas, get out or I'll curse you. I swear it, I have had enough for today." "Sheesh, you don't have to act crazy; I know you want me just as badly as I want you. It's only a matter of time before I have you, so you better stop playing hard to get because, guess what? You are not a princess." He said that and walked away. I closed the door and cried for myself, my stupid heart that fell in love with a foolish boy, and my parents who left me alone in this cold, foolish world. Hours later, I heard my phone ping and saw a message from Ashley telling me to bring some water up to her and Lucas' room. I cursed and stood up. Couldn't she leave me for a second to have some peace? Walking out of my room, I walked into the kitchen, pulled two bottles of water from the fridge, put them in a tray, and walked to their room. As I approached his door, I began hearing groans and curses, and my hands shakily rested on the door, confused about what to do. "Yes, Lucas. Oh, my God," Ashley moaned louder. That's just gross. I was about to go back to the kitchen because I couldn't bear to see the boy that I loved in bed with another girl, minutes after confessing to me and wanting to kiss me. As I turned to leave, I heard Ashley say, "What's up with you and Isadora?" still moaning. "Oh nothing, babe, Simon bet me a hundred bucks that I wouldn't be able to snag her p***y, so I had to do it. You know how I am with competitions. I hate losing." I groaned in pain as the thrusting sounds coming from their room became louder. "Well, I just hope she gets it in her thick skull that you are way out of her league and knows you are mine," Ashley continued. And then my heart literally broke. Hearing Lucas heartless words felt like I had been stabbed with a thousand knives. I had to get out of there. I dropped the tray on the floor and began running toward the woods. I tried my best to suppress the presence of my wolf, who was about to come out, because I had been banned by Alpha Parker from showing her, and if I did, I would be killed. So I ran into the woods, fighting her back in. As I started feeling dizzy and began to stumble, I hit a stump and fell. I was expecting to fall and hit the ground, but I was caught by someone. "Isadora! Are you alright?" a masculine voice said. How did he know my name? I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't. I was in so much pain. "Your mate bond with your wolf has been brutally severed. I have never seen this happen before," the voice continued. The unknown person carried me into a house and placed me on a bed. "Here, drink this," he instructed, pouring a yucky liquid into my mouth. I turned my head and gagged. There was no way in hell I was drinking that muck. "Listen up, Isadora, you have to drink this; it will help with the pain and also if you don't want to lose your wolf completely," the voice warned. Why was he calling me like he knew me? Had I been kidnapped? I obeyed and drank the muck, almost gagging, and tried to open my eyes. "Who are you, and how do you know my name?" I asked, finally opening my eyes as the liquid he gave me seemed to be healing my body. "I was sent by your father, Mr. Davis. He asked me to watch over you at his moment of death. Now sleep," the voice commanded, and I closed my eyes, drifting off to a peaceful sleep where I dreamt of my younger self laughing with a familiar face that had striking green eyes. Lucas. The younger version of him, who I was in love with, had a scar on his face and longer hair, but now he was nothing but a shadow of his former self.
