Birth of the Pentacle:
There is strength in numbers. It was how I had met my demise. My mother had created me and given me a gift. A gift she had then tried to take back. Take from me all that I am. It had been a beautiful night like this one. A night that I have had to relive every night with the passage of time. I was king. I am king.
There is nothing and no one more powerful than I. I had been drawn here. This place had called to me like a sweet melody. I had seen it before. The drawl, something she never deemed me worthy of. A mate. I thought she had gifted me something that would fill this void inside of me. Give me someone to share this eternity with. It was the only thing that was missing in my life then.
Instead, I came to terms with the reality of what the b***h is. The mother I had held so dear betrays me in the most painful way. My alphas turned on me. Sacrificing their lives to end me after I had given them power. After I had clothed them. After I had presented them with my love. All I had asked in return was their devotion.
"My King," they all knelt before me. I hadn't known their intention then.
"You called a meeting?" I asked walking over to them with all of my trust. These were my son's. All of them were mine and she took them from me.
"We did sire. We wish to present, you," My first said.
He motioned the massive stone before him offering me a seat. It was an honor to be seated by my sons then. They surrounded me. A bright light shone down through the trees. I hadn't seen her in years. My mother. All-time stood still. My sons gazed down at me frozen. No wind. Just her presence and the stillness of the world.
"Lucien," she called out my name. Her voice, the sound of bells chiming in perfect harmony.
"Mother?" I asked a little startled.
"You have not fulfilled your purpose here. You have taken what was never yours to take. You have strayed from your path," she accused.
"That path is no longer suitable for me, mother. I am stronger than that now. I hold my own kingdom," I informed, meeting her gaze.
"You have murdered your own. My children," she growled at me angrily. The sound sent a shiver over my skin.
"They do it to themselves mother. Why wouldn't I be able as they have?" she shook her head disapprovingly. "I'm glad you came, mother. I was going to pray on it, but the opportunity now seems appropriate,"
"You dare ask of me?" she growled angrily.
"Mother, you swore. You said I wouldn't have to be alone when you sent me here. I just want what I was promised. I want her," she looked me over as if she were thinking about it.
"You've done nothing but take. You were brought here to give. You get nothing," I tried to stand.
The light returned and she was gone. The anger in me wanted her back. I needed her to come back to give me what I was promised. My sons all held me back and I was pinned to the stone I had been presented. It was then that I realized what was happening. My alphas pushed the stone within the cave just up ahead.
They had left me. Everyone had abandoned me and I was left with nothing but the endless abyss of time and solitude. My calm words ran through the silence of the cave as their bodies molded into my own. I had embraced the side of me that made me her son. This wouldn't kill me. This would preserve me until my time came once again. After all, power is what they all crave and eventually, they will try and come for mine. The seeds have been planted. My life is my own. Now and forever.
Present Time:
There is no entrance to the cave. I had gone around it in a hurry and then carefully, thinking there had to be something I had missed. My instructions had been clear but there was nothing but the massive boulder. This is just a massive rock, not a cave. I looked down at the two duffle bags filled with money and laughed. This was the easiest job I had ever done. I looked around one last time before I sat down on the flat stone in front of the location I was given.
The sound of small pebbles rolling against each other made me jump up and pull out my gun. I aimed it where the sound had come from. There's nothing there. A cold breeze swept through the floor lifting a mass of leaves. I laughed shaking this off. This place gives me the creeps. I turned around making my mind up, It's time to bail. There isn't s**t here.
I froze. I have to be imagining this.
Up ahead a massive wolf stood in the shadows of the trees. I looked down at the two bags contemplating which one was going to stay. I could leave it here and come back tomorrow in hopes that no one would pass through here. I can't run with the two of them. When I looked up the thing was gone. I put my gun up looking around not believing the luck I had just stumbled on.
"Alright, Luc this is just the lack of sleep playing tricks on you," I said out loud.
I grabbed the two bags and turned to put them on the rock. I dropped them. The massive thing was now on the stone. It didn't have the same shape anymore. The thing looked like a pitch-black smoke mass of a man. It looked back at me. Where eyes should be are two bright green orbs glowing.
"Aulelei oe," it growled. (You are so beautiful). "O lo'u mamalu mua mua o lenei," (My former Glory is this).
"What the f**k?" I asked stepping back unable to believe that this s**t is happening to me.
"O la'u vaa," (My vessel).
I tried to step back forgetting the two bags. Once I thought I was far enough to make a run for it I bailed. I rushed through the trees in the direction I had come from. I could see my car in the distance as I rushed forward. I skid to a stop when the thing reappeared in front of me. I raised my gun up aiming it at the thing.
"O se toa," (A warrior)
"Come on. This is not happening to me right now," the thing drifted towards me. I stepped back squeezing two shots out. The bullets when right through the thing hitting my car taking out the window on the passenger side. "f**k,"
"Ou te le afaina oe," (I won't harm you)
"f**k that. You're a ghost thing. Whatever the f**k you are. Back the f**k up. This isn't real."
"Tou te malamalama?"
"Yeah, I understand. Isn't that the point?" I asked backing away.
"E tasi I matou," (We are one)
"What does that mean? f**k," I'm panicking, backing away.
I can't outrun this and there is no f*****g way I'm about to get possessed by a f*****g demon. I don't know what that would do to me and my wolf. I turned the gun to myself putting it to my temple. I closed my eyes and began to pray. Mother moon, forgive me for my wrongs. I refuse to let this thing take my body. My soul is in your hands. Pass judgment as you see fit. In the name of the moon. I will be free.
"Leai se mea e mana'omia," (No need) it whispered.
I fell to my knees and pulled the trigger. The sound echoed in the darkness. Everything faded around me. There was no pain.
I opened my eyes again. I looked around to find myself home. My mom who I hadn't seen since she had died ten years ago walked out with a plate of freshly cut fruit. Had I died and gone to heaven? That's not right. I don't deserve to be here.
"Fufulu le tama," she hurried, waving her hand in front of me.
I stood up and walked over to the bathroom and washed my hands. I looked in the mirror to see a young version of myself looking back at me. The one who had loved his mother and honored his life. I turned to face the door and pulled it open. A woman in a white silk gown stood there. The most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
"I heard you. You are forgiven," she said the sound of her voice rang in my ears. She faded as the sound of my mother cooking in the kitchen came from the other end of the hall. I wiped my hands on my jeans and made my way over to her. She placed a plate of food in front of me and smiled.
"I've missed you, mama," I greeted her correctly this time. She smiled.
"I was always there, Luc. You were never alone,"
"I'm sorry," feeling shame flood through me. She came over to me placing her hands on both sides of my head.
"You shouldn't be. You followed the path granted to you and I am proud of the man you became. There is no shame surviving in a world not many know of," she leaned forward kissing the top of my head. "Now eat. There is so much I want you to see. Meet me outside when you're done,"
I finished eating as fast as I could. The salty smell of the ocean is the first thing I got when I opened the door. The sound of the waves brought me peace as I walked out onto the warm sand. I looked around to see my mother and my brother. He smiled at me. The two of them moved aside to reveal something I never thought I would ever see again.
"Daddy!" the little smiled brightly and ran towards me. I knelt down opening my arms to accept her. Her small body hit mine knocking us both back. "Daddy, you're here. I told you,"
"Teuila," is all I can say. I have no words.
"Yeah, daddy. It's me. I'm here," she whispered into the crook of my neck tangling her small fingers in my hair. I tightened my hold on her.
"I never thought I'd see you again,"
"It's okay, daddy. You can see me whenever you want now. Forever," she said pulling away. "I love you. Come on. Mommy is waiting for you. We've all been waiting,"
I looked back to see the woman standing there. My daughter let go of my hand as I took a step towards the woman.
"What's happening?" I asked.
"You remind me of someone I once loved. I couldn't recreate him in his old form so I reconstructed him a new. You were not meant to see all the ugliness you did, Luc. I apologize. I also apologize for all that was taken from you. This is your home now. It is what you deserve,"
"His form? My body? I died?"
"His vessel. All that you are will become him. Your life will bring meaning to his. Those beautiful eyes of yours will save him," she smiled looking up at me, coming closer.
"I don't understand," I shrugged. She smiled reaching for me. I let her place her gentle hand on my face.
"It's alright, son. You're home," She stepped away motioning to look back. My little smiled at me waving her hand welcoming me to take it.
"I'm home," I sighed feeling the warmth of the peace this brought. I walked over to my baby and took her little hand in mine.
"Come on, daddy. You've made mommy wait long enough silly," she laughed pulling me with her.
"You're right," I agreed. I glanced back at the woman one last time. She gave me a single nod before she disappeared. "You're right," I whispered again.
