CHAPTER THREEAfter breakfast the Duke inspected the papers that Lord Curzon had given to him. Some he had received the previous night, but some had been handed to him only that morning by an aide-de-camp, Amongst them was a personal note and, when he opened it, he was aware that George Curzon must have written to him in the middle of the night. It was so like him, the Duke thought, to be thinking over the details of a plan even when he was in bed with somebody as beautiful and alluring as his wife. He had written, “I suggest you tell anyone who is interested that you are a tourist writing an article for the National Geographic magazine.
