Chapter 4 King Utrin had a commanding presence. The minute they entered the dell, Jacob’s eyes were drawn to the monarch, sitting regally on a throne of quartz crystal, his small golden crown atop a head of silvery curls. Upon closer inspection, Jacob could detect only a few lines at the corners of the king’s eyes and one or two folds of skin at his throat. It made detecting his age with any degree of accuracy quite impossible. He was dressed a little differently to the other fairy-folk gathered in the royal enclosure. The hem of his tunic reached to the ground, whereas every other garment Jacob could see was knee-length. The king’s garment also looked softer, silkier, and had decorative embroidery around the hem and cuffs, and around the neckline. Apart from his crown and a gold and rub
