Chapter Six: The steady motion and sounds of the hog cart lulled Kai asleep. Unfortunately, the time spent with his eyes closed was not a peaceful rest. When jolted awake, the surrounding sounds had worked their way into his subconscious. Wide awake and staring into the face of a hog, he remembered everything from his fitful nightmare. He screamed like a frightened child, dropping his spell stone in the process. He had dreamed he was a hog himself, taken to the slaughterhouse in Ra. In the open air, he was hung by his heels, waiting for slaughter. A giant oak tree served the men wielding the death blows. Around him, hogs squealed, the stench of blood and death thick in the air. The sounds of protest ended in a bloody gurgle. Throats slit so the blood could be drained for blood pudding.
