Chapter Fifteen:
Kai didn’t sleep so much as tumble the night away. The strange sounds filling the night didn’t bother him, Kai was used to those. No, there was no comfort on the cold ground. He’d given his blanket to one of the children. Stupidly, Ka didn’t think he needed the thing. He had spent plenty of nights sleeping on the bare earth. Once again, his judgment proved flawed.
He slept, clutching the rock. He hoped his fears and anxieties would keep charging the stone while he slept. If he ever threw the thing and it hit the target, the effect should be inspiring. If he was a true mage, it might hold enough power to kill with fright. If Kai were honest, he would be happy to cause a foe to simply run away. It had never been his intention to harm another. That wasn’t his style.
