Chapter 15 There was a knock on the door that disturbed Scarlet’s sleep. She was still drowsy when she got up to open her room door. She wasn’t expecting to see a shirtless Xavier in the morning. ‘W-What are you doing here?” She asked in her morning voice. Xavier was not able to get a good sleep last night. He was having the weirdest of dreams that made no sense but they were all connected to Scarlet and he knew it. She was the person who was on his mind and also the one when he got up in the morning. He didn’t know why he was standing at the door. He even forgot to wear his shirt. “I-I came down to check up on you. How are you feeling?” He cleared his throat before speaking. “Great.” Scarlet kept her answer short. Her eyes wandered to everything around her except him. She was too embarrassed to make eye contact with him after yesterday. She owed him, owed him big time. She just didn’t know how to make up to him. In her defense, she didn’t lie to him. She had no memories of the spoken incidents. Even when the guys recalled it for her, she had no clue. How come she is losing figments of her memories? She couldn’t understand it herself. Their eyes met for a split second, then flit away. “So. . .” Xavier scratched the back of his neck. He didn’t know why he was there but he had made up his mindset about Scarlet. Yesterday's incident was too peculiar to forget, so he decided to dig into Scarlet. He decided to keep his eye precisely on her. “Aren’t you going to get ready for school?” he asked her. Scarlet was surprised to hear him say, “I am going to. . .” She said, “What about you? Are you truly quitting school?” She asked him. Xavier licked his lips before speaking, “No. . . no, I have changed my mind. I will continue. I’ll just. . . go and get ready. See you in a bit,” he told her, and before Scarlet could utter anything he dashed upstairs. He shut the door with a bang. ‘What the hell was that? Why was I so polite with her?’ He slapped his head to knock some sense into it. ‘She was sick yesterday but now she is fine, so I should also get back to being normal. What was I thinking? Whatever this was, it ends now. That dream has messed up my mind a little, but I am back. Xavier is back.” Scarlet stood still deep in her thoughts. ‘Why is he being polite to me? Is it because I was sick? Nah, it must be one of his bipolar attitudes. I should not think too much and get ready for school.’ What happened yesterday made them quiet around each other. They both sat on the bus, in class, and came back home in peace. Sal noticed their behavior and got frustrated in the end. “Seriously! What is wrong with you both?” Scarlet was opening the door with her key and Xavier was standing behind her, his bag on his shoulder. They both entered, followed by Sal. “Nothing, why do you think so?” Scarlet asked him. “Are you guys not on speaking terms again?” He asked them in a weary tone. Xavier dropped his bag on the beanbag and went into the kitchen to get himself a can of soda. He opened the can, took a few gulps, and sat on the couch lazily. “What’s for dinner?” He asked, “I’ll be cooking today,” Sal chimed in, “But seriously, what’s the deal between you two?” he asked again, and Scarlet got frustrated. Her head was throbbing with pain the moment she entered her place, “Do you want us to fight?!” She yelled at him, making both Sal and Xavier surprised. She turned towards Xavier, and screamed in his face, “Why are your things never in your place? Why do you not help me clean this place? The only thing you know is how to create a mess. Haven‘t you created enough mess in my life? Why can't you cook once in a while? Oh, let me guess because you’re the f*****g Alpha, the king of the world who can do anything, anytime you want,” Her voice turned grave. Xavier's jaw tensed up, he stood to his full height, “Have you f*****g finally lost your mind?” He yelled at her back. His eyes met hers and there he saw it again, the crimson black hole, so he avoided doing what he did last time. He looked everywhere except looking into her eyes. He felt a pull towards her eyes that was hard to resist. He looked away, and his eyes met Sal’s, who walked in between them. “Salil, do not look into her eyes,” he asked him, but Xavier noticed that Sal wasn’t listening to him. He was already looking into her eyes, he looked lost— in a trance. Scarlet's eyes rolled back and her sclera was all crimson. The only faulty thing Xavier did was look into her eyes once again. He began to slowly lose consciousness. His head got heavy— mind hazy. He felt like throwing up. He tried to keep his eyes open as much as he could. He saw Scarlet's feet off the ground— Sal was already knocked up. “Scarlet!” He yelled with as much power as he had in his body. “Scarlet, stop it,” He walked closer to her. Black dots formed in front of his eyes. He got hold of her, and squeezed her tightly— her feet were still off the ground, but he hugged her as tightly as he could. Xavier lost his vision— but he felt the warmth, her scent, he reckoned it, so he held on to it tight. “Come back, Scarlet,” he whispered before finally falling unconscious.
