The Alpha’s Untamed Human

Chapter 5

The next day, at 8am sharp, Taylor was knocking on the Jackson’s front door.

“Mom, Dad, Emma” shouted Peter as soon as he opened the door and was met with Taylor's sleepy eyes... “it’s Taylor, come quick. Taylor is here, we’ve got a problem.”

Everyone came running, worried sick and wondering what happened.

“Taylor is at our doorsteps at eight in the freaking morning! Something is definitely wrong!” continued Peter laughing

“You little doofus” said Taylor while his mother playfully hit him at the back of his head laughing.

Taylor joined them in the kitchen and helped them set the breakfast table. When they all sat down, breakfast was not as animated as usually. The first 10 minutes everyone was quiet at the table. You could hear a pin drop.

“Can we address the elephant in the room? “asked Taylor determined to break the heavy silence.

They all sighted synchronously and looked at her

“We have a problem, don’t we?” Taylor continued

“Taylor honey, there is no problem, Emma was just emotional yesterday evening” said Mrs. Jackson

“You know that Lover Boy paid me a visit yesterday evening?"

“Who is Lover Boy?” inquired Peter all confused.

“Your sister’s soulmate” said Taylor coolly

“What?” exclaimed Emma as she snapped her head looking at Taylor with eyes wide open. “Liam went to our apartment? How did he even know where we live? What happened? Did he do anything to you?”

“Yes. He got me followed. We just talked and he apologized. Oh and no, he didn’t do anything to me” replied Taylor counting on her fingers to make sure she answered all Emma’s questions.

They all looked at Taylor as if she has grown a second head. And to Taylor’s surprise Mrs. Jackson looked at her scrutinizing her face before asking

“Taylor, sweetheart, did you overdrink last night at the Ball?”

“Mrs. Jackson! I would have expected this comment from Peter not from you.” laughed Taylor. “He really visited our apartment. He apologized and promised to treat Emma well. He wanted to talk to me and address my concerns.”

Emma was relieved. For a moment she was worried that Liam went after Taylor for a fight. After all, his pack members were not happy with Taylor interference last night and considered it a disrespect to their Alpha. Peter and the guys had to use all the diplomacy in the world to calm them down while Liam and Emma were meeting with Derek.

But indeed, when they came out of the meeting, Liam immediately dismissed his people’s issues with Taylor and left with them, allegedly to the hotel to rest. Little did Emma know that he was planning a surprise visit to Taylor.

Emma was not only relieved, but she was also happy that her mate understood the depth of her friendship with Taylor and that he wanted to mend the relationship with Taylor. She could not believe her ears. Alpha Liam is not known to be a person to care about other people’s feelings!

“What... What did you think of him?” asked Emma

“I think he genuinely cares about you Emma. His apologies seemed sincere as well. And he definitely is a smart guy: He knew that I would be a pain in the ass if I am NOT convinced of his true feelings so he came with an olive branch to plead his cause and convince me that he will treat you well.”

“The apocalypse is coming people. Run for your life” screamed Peter at the top of his lungs. “First Alpha Liam apologizes, then Taylor is at our door at eight in the freaking morning…  the end is near I am telling you”

They all laughed, pleased that the situation between Liam and Taylor is no longer tensed and that Taylor somehow approved of Emma’s mate.

“I expected you to say he threatened you not that he apologized” muttered Mrs. Jackson.

“if I am being honest… and fair... I would say I am the one who threatened him”

“You WHAT!” They all screamed

“Calm down people! He is just a man!” chuckled Taylor

“You threatened Liam?” Asked Emma flabbergasted. She could not believe her ears. No one threatens an Alpha and lives to tell the story. And when this Alpha is Liam Carter, all hell breaks lose if anyone dares to offend him.

“Yep” said Taylor popping the p. “He knows now that if he hurts you in any way, I will hunt him down and kick his ass... right in the middle of Idaho”

“you are one crazy yet fearless woman Taylor, I will give you that!” Said Peter laughing.

“So Emma… Idaho? Are you sure about that? You were crying yesterday” said Taylor

“I am 100% sure Taylor. I was emotional yesterday; I was scared because Liam is… well… particular. He is a strong leader, respected by his peers and feared by his enemies. And to be honest I was also scared for you Taylor. No one every stood up to Liam and in front of everyone!”

“Maybe this is what he needed.  A crash course in humility. And I am happy to be his teacher, given that his parents clearly didn’t do their job!” smirked Taylor

“Don’t ever ever mention his parents” cut her Emma in an aggressive tone.

Taylor was startled and looked at Emma with probing eyes trying to understand this sudden burst of hostility.

“His parents and sister were murdered when he was a kid. Brutally murdered. He had to take care of his brother and took early on the responsibilities of his community.”

“He never got to avenge them and bring them justice as the murderers were never arrested. But I heard that, to this day, he is still searching for the murderers” added Peter

“This explains a lot.” murmured Taylor lost in her thoughts, thinking about what Liam had to go through at such a young age.

As tension was resurfacing, Emma stood up, took Taylor’s hand and dragged her out informing her family that they are going for one last walk. Peter and her parents proposed to go to the girls’ apartment and pack Emma’s stuff giving them more time together.

The girls were walking hand in hand, in silence, when Emma stopped. Her eyes glazed over as if in trance. She was actually using her mind link and talking telepathically with Alpha Derek. But for an outsider like Taylor, who is not aware that werewolves exist and that werewolves from the same pack can mind link, it can seem odd.

 “Oh, I forgot to tell you, Alpha Derek wants to see us. Let's pass by his office first.” Emma informed Taylor.

Derek welcomed them with open arms when they reach his office.

“Nice to see you Taylor.” said Derek with sadness in his eyes, not forgetting the words Taylor told him last night.

“Surprised to see me in one piece?”

“No, I was rather surprised to see Liam in one piece. Although I heard that you attacked their car, a vintage car might I add!”

“For the record, the attack on the car happened before we talked. After our talk and to respect your wishes I was a lovely host.” clarified Taylor

“yes, I am aware, he told me about your discussion. Liam passed by this morning before he left.”

“ He already left? So how is Emma going to go? I thought he would at least be there to travel with her!”

“She will be escorted by two of his most trusted people”

Taylor rolled her eyes, fuming but Derek did not let her comment as he continued

“This is why I wanted to talk to you. Because I wanted to tell you that when time will come, at noon, his people will take Emma to the airport. And you are required to act normal, no snarky comments à la Taylor”

“Derek I am genuinely doing my best here. I am trying to understand your soulmate beliefs but come on, doesn’t love at first sight require a minimum effort from his side? She is leaving her family and her community, going thousands of miles away, the minimum decent thing to do is for him to be there for her. No?”

“Taylor, you know that I love you & Emma as if you were my own. Please humor us with our cultural values. I know it is difficult for you, but do you believe that I would let Emma go if I was not sure that her safety and wellbeing are secured?”

Taylor rested her head on the seat and looked at Derek. His tone was dead serious, and his request felt like an order. Emma put her hand on Taylor’s shoulder and smiled at her, letting her know that she is happy with this arrangement and that everything will be ok.

Derek hugged Emma and wished her a safe trip. He also told her to call him if anything happens while walking them out of his office.

Taylor furrowed her eyebrows wondering why something would happen, why the Jacksons asked her whether Liam threatened her, why everyone is walking on eggshells when it comes to Emma’s soulmate.

Taylor couldn’t get over the feeling that something is terribly wrong when Derek snapped her out of her inner thoughts, kissing her on the forehead and reminding her that with Emma gone to Idaho he still expected to see Taylor as frequently as before in his gated community.
