“Do you want some water?” Offered Taylor once inside her apartment. “I won’t propose alcohol as I do not know how much you have already drunk at the ball, but I can offer you water, tea, cocoa or a soda” “I would take a coffee” said Car Lover “Not possible, I don’t know how to make coffee.” “What is there to know? You have a machine right there” said Car Lover pointing to the kitchen counter. “Technology & I do not get along that much.” replied Taylor throwing her hands in the air.  “I have already destroyed three coffee machines and I am not allowed to touch them anymore” “Well you are even more dangerous than you seem” said Car Lover laughing.  “I will make three cups of coffee” he added as he headed to the kitchen counter and switched the machine on, looking in the cupboards for three mugs. Taylor and Liam sat on the kitchen stools, looking at each other with scrutiny. This woman has insulted him numerous times since they first met. She is oblivious of his standing in the supernatural world otherwise she would have never dared to talk to him like that. He was the leader of one of the biggest and strongest pack. The reputation of his warriors crossed borders, and no one dares to stand in their way… No one except for the rogues who have been a plague in his State and a difficult problem to eradicate. And this was another reason why Emma was scared when she discovered that Liam was her fated mate. She knew about the ongoing war with the rogues and she knew that she will be thrown in a foreign land, and in the middle of a battlefield. Not only is she mated to an Alpha known for being irascible, but also, she will have to be the Luna of a pack at war with rogues. This is a huge change for her, and she had the right to be dismayed. He did not read the situation from her point of view at first. He was hurt by her reaction and he took it on her friend. But the discussion with Derek and Emma helped them talk openly and acknowledge the complexity of the situation. He was somehow relieved to see that her reluctance, her fear was not because she wanted to reject him but rather because of his pack situation and his reputation that preceded him. Now he needed to clear the air with Taylor, his mate’s best friend. The woman seemed tenacious; if she is not convinced with their relationship, she will try to sabotage it. It was written all over her face during their altercation at the Ball. After a few minutes of heavy silence, Liam decided to speak “I am sorry Taylor for how I reacted and scared Emma. I was angry and lost my self-control.” Taylor’s jaw dropped and her eyes were wide open as she did not expect an apology from him. “You seem surprised” said Liam amused by Taylor’s reaction. “Well you cannot blame me. You do not seem like a man who acknowledges his mistakes” “I am not a person who does a lot of mistakes. But when I do, I admit it” he simply stated. “And what proves to me that you will not do those mistakes every day? That you will not lose your “self-control” every day and hurt her?” “I can never hurt her, she is my …” “yeh yeh she is your soulmate... I heard that song before... “Taylor cut him visibly annoyed “You don’t believe in love at first sight?” “Of course not. Building a relationship takes time and commitment. A couple need to know each other, to find affinities and common grounds to build solid foundation for their relationship to grow… And despite all the efforts we put into a relationship, we can destroy everything just like that… You see it every day. Couples falling madly in love and then they split, and it is all over again. I respect your culture and your beliefs, I really do. But I do not believe that a violent man will just “change”” Taylor did the air-quotes emphasizing on the change part. Liam furrowed his eyebrow, shocked that Taylor would think of him as a domestic abuser. He wondered whether she had suffered firsthand from domestic violence. As if Taylor read his mind, she continued “I come from a loving home, so does Emma. But we both have seen friends getting hurt by men who loved them dearly one day, and the next day they would lose their temper and hit them so hard sending them to the hospital. And do you know what the worst part is? Those men get off from jail on technicalities. You seem to be powerful and that is why I do not trust you. I think if you hurt her, you will find a way not to be punished for it. “ “I am not a violent man Taylor. I never hit a woman and do not plan on doing it any time soon. And I would never ever hurt Emma. I cannot hurt her; she is my soulmate. I know that I need to learn how to express my love in a better way. I know that I must understand Emma’s point of view as we have two different upbringings. And I know my reaction at the Ball was not the perfect first impression neither on her nor on you but...” “Why did you react that way? I didn’t even see you smile?” “Because the moment I told her she is my mate, she froze. I saw only fear. And I was taken aback, she is my mate and instead of being happy she was afraid and scared.”  “Doesn't that mean that maybe your system is broken? And you are not really soulmates?” “No. Absolutely not. she felt it. She felt the mate bond. She told me so. But she was scared because of what she heard about me.” “And what did she exactly hear about you?” “That I am short-tempered…” “You definitely proved her wrong with the way to reacted Mr. Maniac!” said Taylor sarcastically Liam laughed. This woman just says everything on her mind... Something tells him that she is never afraid to speak her mind but especially when it comes to his mate, she would do everything to defend her. Liam was happy that Emma had a friend like Taylor growing up, a friend that had her back and probably protected her in the human world. And he was determined to provide this support and comfort for his mate. “I will do my best to prove to her…and to you, that I am not this kind of person. That at work I might be hard and tough but not in my personal life and not with my mate.” Liam looked Taylor straight in the eyes, and continued “I love her. I love her with all my soul, and I will make sure she lives a happy and fulfilled life by my side.” “Wow, you’ve got an upgrading… From Mr. Maniac to Lover Boy! That was a fast upgrade!” taunted him Taylor. Liam was shocked. This woman does not have a filter! Lover Boy! Seriously! He clenched his jaw to control his anger and irritation. Car Lover, on the other hand, could not stop laughing at the new nickname for his fearless Alpha. Liam shook his head in disbelieve. “You know Taylor, I understand why you are Emma’s best friend... You are one hell of a woman” Said Liam raising his mug as if to toast his mate’s best friend. “And that, Lover Boy, might be the only rational thing you have said all night!” Stated Taylor raising her mug as well. The rest of the evening went smoothly with Taylor asking Liam many questions on his gated community in Idaho and the future life of Emma there. And Liam listening to Taylor and Emma childhood adventures in Mystic Moon community. Those girls were partners in crime… And boy did they make Derek’s life difficult with all their pranks and crazy games. He could relate a bit, at least the first years of his childhood were similar: carefree and happy. Until his teen years when live drastically changed back home and he had to grow up too early, too fast and had the fate and lives of his pack in his hands. When Liam & Car Lover stood up to take their leave, Taylor shook their hands and told Liam: “Lover Boy, Emma was terrified tonight… She was crying tonight while talking with on the phone... Let's make sure this is the last time it happens. If I see her crying again, I will become Miss Maniac and you will report to me.” Straightforward. No veiled threats, no reading between the lines. She wanted him to understand that. And he did. He knew by now that Emma is as important to Taylor as she is to him. He nodded his head and left followed closely by Car Lover.
