Over the next few days, Shawna aka Shawn would help me slowly get on my feet. Apparently, everyone heard about me and Josh and understood why I had reacted the way I had. My instincts had been telling me that he was close by. I was able to shower and change my clothes. After that, I asked if I could call my great aunt. They didn't have a land line, and cell service sucked up here. It was too soon for me to go into town.
I also realized that Mr. Bracks, Shawna and Josh weren't the only ones that were staying here. One time, a little boy came peeking into my room. He couldn't be older than three or four.
"Hey," I said with a smile, and he looked over his shoulder. I guess he didn't want to get in trouble, but then he came in and sat down on the floor next to me. He had caught me stretching. He looked at my legs.
"Ouch." he said in that cute little kid voice, and pointed at my legs.
"Yeah, ouch but I'm doing fine. What's your name?"
"Bret!" A sharp voice came from the door. It was another man. The little boy quickly got to his feet and went to who I guessed was his father. He waved at me and they both left me alone.
The first moment I got I asked Shawna.
"How many wolves live here?"
"At least five, the other three live in town."
"I met a little boy..."
"Bret and Logan, their parents were killed a couple of months ago."
"How old are they both?"
"Well, Bret is four and Logan is twenty."
"Wow, age gap."
"Yeah, Logan was mad to hear his mother had another kid, but he doesn't act like it, he loves his little brother."
I smiled but didn't push for further information about the brothers.
"Where's the Alpha or who...who's the Alpha?"
"That would be our fearless leader, Maximus, but everyone calls him Max." replied Mr.Bracks, coming to take a seat next to me.
I came to realize that it was his way of showing me he was supporting me in a way. The wolves all had that habit; touch and eye contact. They reassured each other.
"So, am I going to stay here forever?" I asked jokingly.
"No, we just don't want to let you go and you are not healed yet, but Max also wants to talk to you."
"Well, where is he?" I asked, not even thinking.
He shared a look with his wife, and she just shrugged.
"It's complicated, but he'll be here."
"Okay."
After that, at least two days more passed and that's when the man finally made it back to the cabin. Almost everyone went to greet him. I stayed in the room. About an hour later, Bracks came to get me.
"He wants to talk to you, but no back sass okay."
"I'll try not to." I said as Bracks helped me up the stairs to the second floor.
Bracks helped me into a chair. I noticed that he didn't leave, and there were others in the office with me. I looked around for a second but kept my eyes down a little, so as not to challenge anyone. The man they called Maximas, was exactly what you hear a werewolf to be. He wasn't huge but a big man, with a small beard, and light brown hair. He was the one that had the piercing honey-colored eyes but they were cold, almost void of emotion.
"So you're the witch everyone seems to be talking about."
I looked at Bracks, he just waited to hear my answer.
"Medium, actually." I corrected lightly. I could tell that some wanted to laugh or had thoughts about me correcting their Alpha.
"Right, the all mighty, the all-seeing Medium!" the Alpha said, not teasing exactly more like he was telling me he didn't care-what I was called.
"All seeing not exactly but...I can help." I said now, not feeling myself too much.
"I honestly hope so." he said softly.
"What did you need?" I asked.
"We were coming to look for you. I've heard whispers of your talents. I'm in need of those talents. My mate was taken, I'm not sure by who and it seems that they're hiding from our noses."
"Magic mask. I haven't dealt with such things..."
"But we have a witch to help you push past those walls. With her magic and your seeing eye, you'll find my mate."
"If something has happened?" I asked a little too lightly, that made the Alpha angry.
"Then blood will be spilled." he said with pure malice in his voice. I nodded. He ordered one of the wolves to give me something. He opened a box and it was a scarf.
"This isn't going to work." I said, not taking the scarf.
"Meaning?" he said curiously.
"I need to be in her center, her room or her car."
The Alpha nodded, I thought Bracks would move to help me, but instead it was Josh. I didn't protest, but I didn't make it too easy. He took me to the main bedroom. The energy was crazy in this room. I opened my third eye. I saw her.
"Amy?" I said now, looking at Josh.
"No, her name is Natalia," said the Alpha. I looked at him, nodded and went back to seeing. She was happy here, I had to push past the intimate moments, then I was picking up a tension. I followed her and found a box of newspapers. I closed my eye and looked toward the closet where she had hid the box. I pulled it out and the clips were small but it was clear what she had been worried about.
"Honor killings." I said as I read the clips.
Max came over and took the papers from my hands.
"She didn't have anything to worry about, why would she..."
"Could you take me to the last place you saw here?"
"It was here in the house." Max said, looking at me. I nodded.
"I need one of her coats or something like that, something she wore." I said, Josh handed me one of her coats and with his help, I followed her steps. I could see from her eyes. She looked around the house, at the door and walked out. I followed until she reached her car. That's when I saw someone coming.....
"s**t!" I screamed as what felt someone hitting me with a thick covered book in the face. I opened my eyes and found myself outside right where the car was last seen.
"What happened, what did you see?" Josh asked.
"She was taken from the front yard. I didn't get a clear view of the person's face, somehow they're blocking me from seeing anything else."
The Alpha gritted his teeth, but stayed calm.
"Get things ready and we need to find her." he said to Josh, who nodded. With that, he turned to leave. Leaving me and Josh alone.
Josh turned to look at me and went to pick me up. I pushed him away and limped toward the door. That's when I felt myself being pulled into a vision bedroom. The room was lit red, I looked around and realized I was on a bed...
"NO!" I screamed, pulling myself out of the vision, and fell to the ground. I was shaking with anger.
"What did you...."
"Nothing, just leave me alone!" I shouted and just sat on the cold wet ground as he walked past me and into the house. I cried because I didn't want that vision to be true with anyone. I carefully got to my feet and made my way into the house. I went to my room and just dropped on the bed. I was exhausted. Emotionally and physically.
Fate was a cruel thing, it brought me right back to my past. A past with too many painful and unforgivable things. I was crying when I fell asleep, and when it finally came I welcomed it.
The next morning, Bracks took me to town. I called my great aunt and Amelia. I let Amelia know where I was and she was surprised to hear I was back in my home town, and was willing to help Josh of all people.
"You'll never guess what he is?"
"What do you mean, what he is?" asked Amelia. Carefully looking around, I put the phone close and whispered it to her.
"He's a werewolf." There was silence on the other end, then suddenly my great aunt took the phone away from her daughter and spoke quickly.
"Don't try to run away, stay there. We're on our way back!"
"What...coming back?" the line went dead. I hung up the phone and went to find Bracks. I was just walking out of the internet cafe, when someone ran into me.
"Watch where you're going!"
"I'm...sorry." I said, looking at none other than Sophia.
"Well, well, look what the cat dragged in. Seen any ghosts, Camila?" she laughed and mocked.
"No, it's been a while since then, but I can see you're doing...something with yourself."
She flipped her hair. Which was obviously extensions. She had work done on her. Her boobs were melons, she had a big ass too, and her lips looked ready to burst.
"Better then yours, anyway, get out of my way loser!" she pushed me aside, making me flinch in pain as she kicked my bad foot.
I leaned on the wall for a moment, breathing through the pain.
"You okay?" I looked up and found Josh standing in front of me.
"I'm fine, what are you doing here?"
"Brian was called away, so Dad sent me."
I rolled my eyes, but tried putting weight on my foot and flinched again.
"s**t, that hurts!" I gritted.
"Just let me help you!" said Josh, now mad. I looked at him and just nodded. Carefully, he came toward me and picked me up. I didn't look at him as he carried me to the truck. It was the same truck he had when we were in school. He got in and drove toward the house. The tension was heavy as we drove, but I didn't want to talk to him.
"What did your aunts say?"
"Nothing, they're on their way back to town."
He glanced at me, but kept his eyes on the road rather than ask. I sat back and watched as the trees zoomed past.
"Little one, little two, little tree..."
"I wouldn't do that, I don't want puke in this old girl!" he said, and that made me sit up a little straighter, and laughed bitterly.
"I bet you kept other fluid mementos in this thing."
He looked a little lost but that was all I said.
"You've been in the pack house for three weeks, and you've been nothing but rude from the beginning. It's weird to greet an old friend like that!"
I scuffed and stayed quiet, crossing my arms and just ignoring him the rest of the way. Once at the house, I tried to get out of the truck quickly, but he was at the door ready to carry me inside.
"I can do it myself." I said, now feeling really dizzy. I tried to step out, lost my footing and waited to feel the ground but it never came.
I felt strong arms pull me up and then I was looking up at his eyes.
"What is it with you, why won't you stop...." I cut him off, by shoving him away, he almost dropped me. I landed on my bad foot and screamed in pain, as I buckled and fell on my knees on the wet, cold ground.
"Shit." I murmured under my breath in so much pain. Suddenly, I heard a growl and then he grabbed my arm, pulling me up, so I looked at him. His eyes were yellow in color.
"What the hell is your problem!?" he snarled, using my anger and what little strength I had, and shoved him.
Through my tears, I glared at him.
"Now you're worried about me, when it was you that backstabbed me thirteen years ago, you left me with no explanation, no reason! My best friend was gone in one night! It's a little too late to try and make up for what you did!"
His eyes went back to their normal color. I guess he understood why I've been so cold towards him. He took a deep breath and was about to pick me up again, but I stepped back. Wincing and in pain, but I couldn't stand his touch. I limped away pushing through the pain, and just went to my room, to cry about everything.
