"This doesn't look good, you've been walking too much, the skin isn't healing right." said Shawna as she changed the wrappings on my legs. I wasn't listening. It had been a few hours ago that I had finally told Josh why I was so pissed off at him, he didn't try and come talk to me or anything like that. He honestly expected me to just forget all about that. How he abandoned me when my mom was killed and now expects to just pick up where we left off.
" My aunts are coming back to town." I finally said, just trying to distract myself.
"Is that so?" said Shawna, putting more of a solution on my legs.
"Yeah, they're coming to talk to Max."
"You saw that?"
"Yeah, but somehow I didn't get the whole vision. I really hope they don't over stay."
"Don't worry, there's room here," she said. Now finished, I took a nap and when I woke up, I found a little face looking right at me.
"Hi?"
"You snore!"
"Do I? I've heard my aunts say that."
He smiled and I carefully sat up.
"What's your name, little man?"
"Bret! My brother's name is Logan!"
"That's great, you have a big brother. I wish I had a big brother or sister."
He looked a little sad. Shawna told me their parents were killed a while back. I couldn't imagine losing my parents so close to each other.
I sat up and offered him a hug, which he happily accepted. After a while, I tried to get up but my feet were still tender. I sat back down, and, as if by chance, Shawna came in and told Bret that lunch was ready. He left with her as I sat in my room. About a minute later, a light knock came at the door.
"Come in." I said, confused why Shawna would be knocking, but saw it was Logan.
"Sorry if I'm interrupting your rest."
"Not at all come in." I said with a reassuring smile. He came in and closed the door behind him. I got a tense feeling from him.
"So what's on your mind?" I asked once he was close enough.
"Stay away from my little brother." he said flatly, his eyes were the only thing that betrayed his emotions.
He balled up his fists in anger and sadness. I remembered that feeling, and then letting people in was harder, feeling as if nobody would ever understand.
"I can't do that." I said just as flatly. I heard a low growl. His knuckles actually cracked from how hard he was balling his fists.
"He doesn't need a two-faced b***h, giving him false hope!"
His words cut me but I just stared at him. I called a vision but all I saw was a woman's face, when I felt a smack across the face. I fell out of bed to the floor.
"Stay out of my life you stupid witch!" he was shaking, almost vibrating from head to toe. I carefully got to my feet, ignoring the pain.
"Logan, I know how it feels to lose your family...."
"You don't know s**t!"
I looked at him right when Josh and Bracks walked in.
"What's going on?" asked Bracks, who came to look at me. My guess I was already getting a bruise.
"Nothing, Logan and I were just having a chat." I said, glaring right back at him. He just turned and ran out of the room.
Josh watched him leave, but then turned back to me.
"Did he hit you?" he asked in a threatening tone.
I glared at him now, and shook my head. This had nothing to do with Josh and me, so he didn't get to know.
"I'm fine, I just fell out of bed." I said, taking the blame. Bracks helped me back into bed, and checked my legs. They were fine.
"Shawna should be up in a while." he said, excusing himself. Josh stood in my room for a moment, then he too turned around and walked away. I then called on my vision again and saw what had happened to Logan.
"You can't be serious!?" she had said.
"Babe, he needs us. My parents are dead. I can't just walk away from him now!"
"Put him up for adoption. What about us!?"
"I'm the only family he has. I'm not doing that to him!"
She looked at him, in disbelief and hurt. She nodded and walked away.
I was mad for him. That heartless woman, left him when he needed her the most. I guess he didn't want Bret to be hurt the same way.
My heart hurt for them both. Bret needed to know what female affection was, it didn't have to be deeper then, just a friend or aunt. Logan was hurt by his girlfriend leaving him, her wanting him to walk away from his little brother, and his parents dying. Poor Logan had a lot on his plate.
A while later, Shawna came in with a tray of food. I thanked her and ate everything. After lunch I needed to walk. I was overwhelmed with boredom. So carefully, I picked up the tray and headed to the kitchen.
When I opened my door, Logan was standing there looking ashamed.
"Hello, there." I said gently, it seemed to make things worse. He cleared his throat a couple times, before he said something. His eyes were always looking at the floor.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit you...my wolf has been so out of control..." he said, babbling, looking very uneasy.
To give him a break, I handed him the tray, which he took, looking at me confused. I pointed toward the kitchen. He followed and I took the tray and put it on the side of the sink and washed my dishes. He sat at the island just watching me. Once I was done, I turned to look at him.
"Thank you for your help." I said, just acknowledging him to keep him in a calm mindset. He gave me a look, then reached across the island top. He brushed the side of my face he had hit, and I moved away.
"I'm so sorry." he said, his eyes full of regret.
"It's not the best way of protecting Bret, but I understand. After my mom died I didn't want anybody near me either, they were going to hurt me the same way everyone else had and my mind just couldn't wrap around that."
He searched my face, and he seemed to remember something.
"We've all heard about you and Josh..."
"We were just friends. But a betrayal none the less." I said quickly.
"Got it. But you're right, Lisa wasn't just my friend, she was my fiance. We were making plans and stuff, but when she heard my little brother was going to stay with us....her true colors shined."
"I'm really sorry, Logan, both you and Bret deserve better. Someone that will love you both."
He gave me a small smile, but nodded.
"Thanks, I needed to hear that."
"So friends?" I said, putting out my hand for him to shake. He then gave me a grin but nodded and shook my hand.
"Friends," he said.
"Logan," we both looked and Josh was standing there," Brian is looking for you."
"Coming!" Logan said and followed Josh out of the kitchen.
Then, after I was done, I carefully made my way to my room. That little walk was enough to help me back to sleep.
Over the next week, Logan, Bret and I became a little closer. I would hang out with Bret, just do little activities with him, after school.Help him with homework and just little things like that. Logan worked and then had pack things to do. So it was a load off him. I actually got the chance to bake a couple of things. Cookies and brownies. I was taking it as easy as I could.
Amelia called me and said that things were getting worse. The bakery was burned down, so they had to report things, and then they still had a feeling they were being watched. It was going to take them at least until Monday to get here. I wasn't in a hurry for them to get here. As long as they were safe.
It was also in this week, that I noticed something. Bret was getting comfortable with him, to the point he was saying things like I would make a great Mom, or how many kids did I want? Even Logan seemed a little more touchy. Touching, or hugging me. By Monday afternoon, Bret finally dropped a bomb I wasn't really expecting.
"Camila, are you going to be my big sister?"
"What's that mean, little man?"
"Are you going to marry Logan?"
I was stunned, because it's only been a week, and apart from that, Logan and I were just friends. Had I misled them in some way?
"Um...buddy, we're friends and friends help each other out, but I can't marry Logan, he's too young for me and, besides, Logan and I haven't dated and that's how we start to see if we like each other enough to get married."
"So if he asks you on a date, then you marry him."
"If there are feelings between us, then yes, if not, then no."
He looked a little disappointed, but he seemed to understand. So we got done with his homework and then about an hour later, I went outside and meditated for a bit. That's when I felt someone watching me.
"I didn't know you were home." I said to my right, and out came Logan from the Shadows.
"I didn't want to interrupt."
"You didn't what's going on?" I asked but I could already feel the nervousness from him as he walked towards me, I suddenly understood he was up to something, but that was after he grabbed me and pulled me into a kiss. I quickly pulled away.
"Woah, Logan, what's going on?" I said now very uncomfortable.
"Camila, I know it's crazy. I know how you must see me but, if you could just...give me a chance."
I stared at him, he didn't seem all there. His eyes were a little lighter than their regular hazel. I kept calm but firm.
"What are you asking me, Logan?"
"I want you...I want you as my mate!" he blurted out, he was so on edge. If I rejected him, he'd lose it completely.
"I can't, Logan." I said firmly but emotionless. He looked surprised and hurt at the same time.
"Has this week meant nothing to you?!"
"This week with you and Bret has been fun, but there's nothing more than friendship between us, Logan, it wouldn't be fair to any of us!"
He was suddenly really pissed and his wolf seemed to take control. His eyes glowed white, and he was breathing really fast. He suddenly came at me, but all too quickly. It was over. Josh was standing on Logan's back, with Logan's face to the ground. I was shaking from head to foot, and gasped in disbelief. As I stood there staring.
"Josh?" I said in a whisper. He looked at me then bent down and grabbed Logan, forcing him to his feet.
"My dad is calling a meeting with everyone, your aunts are here and are asking to speak to him and you."
I nodded and quickly headed back to the house. When I got inside, Shawna told me my aunts were in my room. I went in and found, that they were laying out dresses on the bed.
"Tia, what's going on?" I asked, now suprised. They both turned to look at me. Amelia came to give me a hug and my great aunt kissed my forehead and gave me a hug.
"Quickly, Mila, you must look your best!" My great aunt said, pointing to the dresses.
"I don't understand, we're just going to talk to Alpha Max, he doesn't require us to be in our best dress." I said, laughing a little.
"Just humor her, you know how she gets." said Amelia. I rolled my eyes and picked a pretty dress, but not over flashy.
"That pale pink will look amazing on you. Now get changed and we'll go to the meeting with the Alpha."
