10. Holiday

1010 Words
A week passed. Evans had promised Caitlyn to take her on a vacation. Caitlyn prepared everything for Daphne to travel. But she really didn't know what to do. "Why are you confused?" Evans asked who was already in the car. "I don't know. I've never had a child before. I don't know if I've prepared everything properly," Caitlyn replied. Sitting in the back seat, Daphne seemed to be so busy playing games on her phone that she wasn't paying attention to the adults. "There's no need to worry. The servants had already loaded all of Daphne's things. We just need to get going." Evans replied, still with his cold demeanor. Caitlyn didn't want to argue. She had not slept all night because she was anxious about this vacation. She was worried about what she should do when she was with Evans and Caitlyn. Despite working at Evans' house for a few days, Caitlyn still couldn't get under the skin of the wealthy businessman. Evans was very quiet. He would only talk to Daphne so much. It was not the way a father would speak to his child. Evans was too stiff. Meanwhile, with Caitlyn, Evans only talks as needed. It only took two hours by plane to get to Colorado. The first thing we did once we arrived in Colorado was eat at a fancy restaurant. Caitlyn felt very unfamiliar with this kind of place. She would rather eat food from street vendors than in a restaurant like this. "Mom, why don't you want to eat?" asked Daphne. Evans also noticed that Caitlyn's food had not decreased at all. "I just want to eat a burger," Caitlyn replied. "Expensive food doesn't suit me." "Burgers?" Daphne looked enthusiastic when she heard about the famous food. She then looked at Evans. "No." Evans did not respond to Caitlyn or Daphne's wishes. "I can't eat at those kinds of places. Too many people and..." "Then I won't eat either." Daphne threatened. She placed her cutlery on the table. Caitlyn felt guilty because of her. Daphne didn't want to eat. She quickly picked up her knife and fork and ate the food. "This looks delicious," Caitlyn said. "Daphne, you should eat this too. After this, we can go for a walk." Evans cleared his throat at Caitlyn's attitude, but he knew that Caitlyn did not like the food in this restaurant. After dinner, Evans took Daphne and Caitlyn on a car ride around Colorado. Daphne was delighted to be with her family. Caitlyn was also happy. She had never had such a luxurious vacation. Evans took them to hangout places for rich people Caitlyn had never been to. In an instant, Caitlyn forgot that this was all an act. As night falls, Evans takes them to a resort with a beautiful mountain view. Daphne slept in one of the rooms. She was exhausted after traveling around. Evans covered her and then kissed the little girl on the forehead. Caitlyn saw how fond Evans was of Daphne. His cold and arrogant figure was in stark contrast when he was in his position as a father. Evans stood up and found Caitlyn looking at him. "You don't have to sleep with Daphne," Evans said. "She's used to sleeping alone. I've reserved a separate room for you. Don't worry. It's just as luxurious as mine and Daphne's. Get some rest. We'll still be traveling around tomorrow." Caitlyn did not respond to Evans' words. Instead, she remained standing by the door, looking at Evans. "What is it again? Do you have something to say?" "I just feel like you have a changeable personality," Caitlyn said. "Really?" Evans did not take Caitlyn's words seriously. Instead, he rushed out of Daphne's room and closed it. Caitlyn watched Evans walk out of the resort without care. "Where are you going?" Caitlyn asked Evans, who was about to get into the car. "Do I have to tell you?" Evans replied. "It's already late. What are you going to do at night?" She approached Evans. She unintentionally grabbed Evans' arm, still holding the car door. Evans looked at Caitlyn's hand holding his. The fragrance of the spring breeze was present and fluttered Caitlyn's brown hair. The almost fruity scent of Caitlyn's perfume wafted into Evans' nose. "You're a mature woman, right? You should know what a mature man needs at night," Evans said. "I'm going to meet someone. I can't meet her when I'm with Daphne. Tell her I'm getting gas if Daphne comes looking for me." Caitlyn realized something from the words on Evans' lips. "Are you going to meet your girlfriend?" Caitlyn asked. "Don't say things like that around Daphne," Evans warned. "But you're right. I'm going to meet my girlfriend." Evans immediately got into the car. When Evans said she would meet her boyfriend, Caitlyn felt nothing painful in her heart. She realized that her position here was just that of a worker. She was only worried about Daphne. "Why did you keep it a secret from Daphne?" asked Caitlyn. "If you marry your girlfriend. Daphne will really have a mother. "Caitlyn said as Evans started the car engine. "Marry?" Evans scoffed at Caitlyn's words. "I won't do it. Get out of the way. I have to go. You have to look after Daphne." Evans drove off in his car. Meanwhile, Caitlyn could only stare at the departing Evans. This was strange. She felt unwilling when Evans left. But maybe she was afraid of being left in a luxury resort with only Caitlyn. What if Evans didn't come back? What if he deliberately left Daphne for her? Who would pay all the bills here? At the same time, Caitlyn got a notification from her social media. She opened her phone and saw a picture of David, who had just posted his wedding picture with Bianca. It broke Caitlyn's heart to see them. Despite trying very hard to forget David, who has made her life chaotic, it is undeniable that Caitlyn still loves David very much. He was her first love.
