12. New Woman

1031 Words
The wound on Daphne's leg was cleaned and bandaged. Daphne finally went to sleep. Evans decided to return to the resort, but he was still very vengeful. "I don't understand why you're so upset with the kids!" Caitlyn tried to give Evans some advice. "You even have a child. How could you be that rude to that little boy?" "You won't know until you have a child!" retorted Evans. "No! If I had kids, I wouldn't be an authoritarian parent like you!" Caitlyn replied. "You don't even deserve to be called a father. I feel sorry for Daphne. How could she possibly have a father like you!" Evans raised his hand, about to slap Caitlyn. Caitlyn lowered her head. But Evans held back. He was furious with Caitlyn, but he never hit a woman. He didn't. Evans was a man of honor. He did not want to create problems by hitting a much weaker woman. Evans left the resort immediately. He was sick of seeing Caitlyn. There was so much regret in Evans for hiring Caitlyn. A foreign girl who made Evans feel overwhelmed most of the time. Caitlyn defied all the rules she made. Caitlyn had interfered too much. She was nothing but a nobody. Just a nanny who bears the nickname mom from Daphne. Evans didn't return to the resort until dinner time. Daphne was starving, but she wanted to wait for Evans. Caitlyn kept persuading Daphne to eat. She was worried that Daphne would get sick. "Your dad has some business, Daphne. He can't have dinner with us for now," Caitlyn said. "Why?" Daphne did not accept Caitlyn's words. She felt that her father had broken his promise. "Dad invited me here for a vacation, so why does he have other things to do?" Caitlyn couldn't answer that question. She did not know where Evans was. What was he doing out there? Evans had left in anger. Maybe Evans wanted to be alone right now. "Please, call Dad. If he doesn't show up, I won't eat," Daphne said. Caitlyn was getting confused. She couldn't possibly call Evans, who was angry with her. But she also didn't want Daphne to miss dinner. "You haven't even eaten lunch yet, Daphne. What if you get sick? I'll feed you. Don't wait for your dad." Caitlyn kept trying to persuade Daphne but to no avail. Daphne still didn't want to eat dinner. As a result, Caitlyn was forced to call Evans. Caitlyn called Evans several times, but he did not pick up. He must have been so angry at Caitlyn that he wouldn't pick up the phone. "Come on! Don't be childish!" Caitlyn grumbled. Moments later, Caitlyn heard a car pulling up in front of the resort. Caitlyn recognized the sound of the vehicle. It was Evans' car. Caitlyn rushed out of the resort to tell him about Daphne. Instead, she saw a woman getting out of Evans' car. Caitlyn immediately restrained herself from going to see Evans. She just stood at the door staring at how beautiful the woman was. Evans exited the car, put his arm around her waist, and invited her inside. "Where's Daphne?" asked Evans. His voice was cold and indifferent. "Oh, is this the woman you told me was Daphne's new nanny?" The woman beside Evans asked. She even looked at Caitlyn, feeling so condescending. Caitlyn understood Evans' attitude of being angry with her because of their argument earlier in the day, but did that beautiful woman have to put Caitlyn down like that? Her words were not rude, but Caitlyn felt that the woman felt better than Caitlyn. "Daphne is waiting for you, Sir. She won't eat if you're not around," Caitlyn replied. "Oh, my girl," Evans smiled. He then invited the beautiful woman inside. Caitlyn just sighed. She followed them. There was no other food preparation tonight. There were only three servings. Caitlyn also chose not to attend the dinner. She let Evans and his girlfriend sit in the dining room for dinner. "Daphne!" Evans walked over to his daughter and hugged her. "How's your leg? Is it better?" "Hem, it's not too painful. Mom put a plaster on the wound," Daphne replied. "Mom?" The beautiful woman chuckled. "Who do you mean, Mom?" Daphne stared at the beautiful woman. She even narrowed her eyes. "Who are you?" asked Daphne. "Your dad hasn't ordered you yet? I'm Stephanie, Evans' girlfriend," the woman replied. Daphne stared intently at Evans. She clearly did not like Stephanie's arrival. Evans knew his daughter didn't like Stephanie's arrival, but he tried convincing her. "Baby, you can still be with Caitlyn even if I'm with Stephanie. Nothing has changed," Evans said. Daphne didn't say anything. Although she was only six, Stephanie knew that her father had been caught with women several times. All this time, Evans had not said anything to Daphne. He wasn't really going to make his girlfriend his wife. But for some reason, he was eager to tell her in front of Daphne and Caitlyn today. Actually, that was too much. Caitlyn was even just a stranger. Why would Evans show her his girlfriend? "Mom, why don't you sit down?" Daphne asked Caitlyn, who had been standing. "Oh, I'm on a diet, honey. I didn't eat dinner," Caitlyn replied. "Why diet? You're not even fat," Caitlyn exclaimed. Evans did not care that Caitlyn could not have dinner with them. He was only focused on Stephanie and Daphne. "I have to go back first. You guys just enjoy dinner." Caitlyn immediately went to the back. She went to the kitchen, which happened to be deserted. The servants had finished their work after preparing dinner. They would come back to clean up the dishes after dinner. Caitlyn stood in the kitchen. She was holding her stomach. She was actually ravenous. She didn't have time to eat this afternoon because she cared for Daphne. And now she just couldn't join in. "You seem to be trying too hard to get close to Daphne." Caitlyn had no idea that Stephanie had suddenly appeared. She spoke with a grave accusation. "You must have deliberately approached Daphne to be able to flirt with Evans, right?"
