Leo was already 81 years old, but he still looked strong. He strode with an air of confidence.
He walked to Grace's side and sized up Nelly.
Nelly greeted Leo respectfully, "How do you do, grandpa?"
Leo didn't say anything, but glanced at Lennon and snorted at him.
Lennon raised his eyebrows and looked at Grace. "Grandma, it seems that your wish to have a great-grandson might have to be delayed to another time."
Grace turned to glare at Leo. "Leo, it's not you getting married. Why are you objecting?"
"I'm his grandfather."
Grace snorted. "And what if you're his grandfather?"
Leo asked Nelly, "Young lady, do you know that Lennon already has someone he’s going to marry?"
Nelly looked at Leo, her gaze neither humble nor pushy. "I do."
Lennon's 'marriage' with Lana was quite a sensation in B City.
It was obviously a lie if she said she didn't know.
Lennon glanced at her from the corner of his eye, a trace of smile on his lips. He thought that she would say she didn’t know.
Sure enough, he really didn't understand this woman.
Leo replied in surprise, "And yet, you still want to be with him?"
"Lord Leo, I don't know why you are opposed to me being with Lennon, nor do I know how much you regard Lana. I only know that Lennon doesn't love Lana. Your family business is big, and you have everything. Do you still want Lennon to sacrifice his marriage to a woman he doesn't love, a person with different aspirations?"
At those words, Lennon’s gaze fell upon Nelly.
Apart from Grace, no one dared talk to Leo like this.
As expected, Leo's face darkened.
Lennon looked at Grace and winked at her.
He and his grandmother always had a tacit understanding. She clapped her hands and said, "Nelly, I like what you said. I only have one grandson. I can't let him marry someone he doesn't love."
Leo sighed and looked at his wife. "Old lady, don't interrupt at times like this."
"Why can't I interrupt? Your grandson doesn't belong to you alone. You have your own opinions, and I have mine. Everyone has a right to voice their stand, just like how there are two sides to a debate. My grandson's marriage is an important matter. Why should everyone follow your wishes?"
Lennon smiled. Everything will be fine as long as his grandmother was on his side.
On the surface, it was Leo who had the final say in this family. But in reality... he always took Grace’s opinion to heart.
Criticised by Grace, Leo said to Lennon with displeasure, "Take this girl out for a walk. I want to talk to your grandmother."
"Okay, I'll take her to my place. We'll come back for dinner in half an hour."
Lennon beckoned to Nelly. Nelly walked over casually and held his hand.
With her hand in his, Lennon was stunned for a moment. It was not until she smiled at him that he realised this woman was acting.
They left hand in hand. Grace smiled furtively, and gently patted her husband’s arm.
"You're really an old fogey. This is the first time Len has brought a woman back home. You might not trust just anyone, but don’t you trust Len's judgement? Since Layla’s incident, this is the first time he has thoughts of getting married. It is a good thing."
"Don't talk about Layla anymore. I know why Len is still reluctant to marry at the age of 30. He's a passionate child. But don't you forget, Len had an agreement with the Molly family first."
"So what? Nelly said well. You didn’t go through an arranged marriage yourself. Why should my grandson follow the old feudal ways?
“Besides, this girl dares to call Lennon by his name, unlike Lana whom you picked for him. She calls him “Master Lennon” every day… It makes me uncomfortable."
"It's not like you don't know. Those bad eggs that our older son left behind are all eyeing on Len. Chuck is gone, and we're both old now. Shouldn’t we help pave the way for Len to go up against those guys? What say you?"
"Len isn't young anymore. I believe he has the ability to make arrangements for his own future. I really don't like that girl from Molly family. Look at Len and Nelly. They look like a perfect match."
Leo sighed. "Don't just look at her face. Do you know whose family that girl belongs to?"
"Didn’t you oppose their marriage without knowing it either?"
"She is now the sister of Lana, brought to the Molly family by Lana's stepmother."
"How did you know that?" She asked in surprise. "Could it be… that you sent someone to follow Len?"
"Why would I send someone to follow him? Yaron called me this morning. He doesn't understand why Len would get involved with his stepdaughter, though he was obviously going to be engaged to Lana. Tell me, how could we allow Johns family to be involved in a three-sided relationship like this?"
Hearing this, the old lady's expression grew solemn.
