7: The Cover Up

Alpha Callum watched the happy couple mingling with guests while sipping his drinks. Beta Amir established the mind link. "Alpha, the men have already left the cemetery. I'm the only one left here. Shall I leave now?" he asked. "No. Wait for me. I want to see the grave with my own eyes," Alpha Callum said. "OK. I'll wait here," Beta Amir replied. Alpha Callum put the wine glass on the table, stood up and walked towards the nearest bathroom to pee. He entered the empty cubicle and initiated teleportation in his mind. He vanished from the cubicle in the blink of an eye. Alpha Callum appeared beside his beta in the cemetery. The full moon above cast an eerie glow around the quiet cemetery. He looked at the tombstone. "Poor Clarice, buried without her consent," he murmured sadly, shaking his head. "A tragic end to a well-respected Luna," Beta Amir said gloomily. Alpha Callum took a deep breath, looking around the cemetery. "Are we going to avenge Luna Clarice, Alpha?" Beta Amir asked. Alpha Callum's brows drew together. "What made you say that?" "We both know the reason why," Beta Amir replied sheepishly. "No, unless there is a valid reason to do it," Alpha Callum shook his head. "I worked so hard to unite the rogue packs to establish peace in the East District so both humans and wolves can enjoy peace. Why would I start a bloody war just for one woman?" Beta Amir fell silent. He thought Alpha Callum would start a war with the Bloodhound Pack to avenge Luna Clarice, but he was wrong. But personally he prefers peace to war, so he approved of Alpha's decision in choosing peace over revenge. "Alpha, I will check around the area to make sure no one is spying on us," he said, walking away from the freshly dug grave. Alpha Callum read the tombstone... Luna Clarice of the Bloodhound Pack died today in eternal peace. What a joke! Tomorrow everyone will know about her tragic fate. Maybe it's better this way. Clarice's whereabouts will stay hidden from her enemies so she can live in peace on the farm. "I better head back to the wedding party, then go home," he murmured. A few minutes later, Beta Amir returned to his side. "Alpha, the cemetery is clear. No one is spying on us. We are safe to stay here as long as you want," he said reassuringly. "No need to stay here any longer. Let's go back to the wedding venue," Alpha Callum replied. "OK." Beta Amir smiled, eager to have a few drinks at the wedding reception before going home. The men disappeared from the cemetery and appeared behind the tree located at the back of the mansion. They casually strolled back to the front lawn and mingled with the guests. "Alpha, I'm hungry. Can I eat first before we go home tonight?" Beta Amir asked permission. "Sure, eat and drink all you can," Alpha Callum replied. The men settled at the nearest table. Beta Amir walked to the buffet table, filled his plate with delicious dishes, then returned to the table and ate his food ravenously. While his beta was busy eating, Alpha Callum watched the newlyweds dancing happily surrounded by other guests. He was thinking about what went wrong between Clarice and her husband? He heard that the couple lived a peaceful life, and they were in love with each other. So how come Clarice was poisoned to death and Alpha Bruce didn't know about it? He looked at the bride. He knew Aurelia was Clarice's best friend based on the information his men had gathered about the couple. What's going on? Why did Aurelia marry her best friend's husband? Hmm... Could it be that the mastermind behind Clarice's poisoning is no other than her best friend Aurelia? If the answer is yes, then Alpha Bruce is guilty. He knows about his wife's real condition. He's part of an evil plan to get rid of his wife. Poisoning won't happen if he cares enough about his wife's well-being. He didn't dig deeper into Clarice's poisoning because he was preoccupied with his son's existence. Should he let go of this poisoning incident involving Clarice and pretend it didn't happen? Hmm... He saved her on time. What more could she ask for? What if one day Clarice begs him to seek justice on her behalf? Would he help her? He shakes his head. He won't entertain such thoughts because he needs to hear the truth from Clarice first before forming conclusions in his mind. Besides, it's Clarice's personal battle, and they are no longer in each other's lives. He should stay away from her affairs. For old time's sake, he can provide her with a temporary place to stay. She will be safe on the farm while she recuperates from her health problems. After Beta Amir finished eating, he sipped his wine, enjoying the night. He glanced at his companion. "Alpha, what time will we go home tonight?" he asked. "Before midnight," Alpha Callum answered. "Are you going home with me, or will you go somewhere?" Beta Amir asked. "Just go home and if my wife asks where I am, just tell her that I'm staying up late to talk business with other pack leaders," Alpha Callum said. "OK, I'll tell her that," Beta Amir said, sipping his wine. He knew Alpha Callum was lying. He won't be discussing business with other pack leaders tonight. He would go directly to the farm to visit his fated mate. If things like this keep happening in the future, Luna Viviana will soon discover Clarice's presence on the farm, and it will bring chaos to the couple's peaceful marriage. Time went by. The wedding party is in full swing. People are getting drunk and wasted. Half an hour before midnight. "Time to leave." Alpha Callum stood up. He looked at his assistant. "Inform our men to get ready to leave. I'll just bid goodbye to the couple," he said. "Copy, Alpha." Beta Amir put down the empty wine glass and left the table. Alpha Callum walked towards the couple, wearing a smile on his face. "Alpha Bruce and Luna Aurelia, it's time for me to go home. Thank you for having me here," he said in a grateful tone. "It's a pleasure to have you as our guest on our special day, Alpha Callum. Thank you very much for coming," Aurelia responded graciously. "Thank you for attending our wedding, Alpha Callum. Let's talk about business some other time. I'll give you a call," Alpha Bruce said. Alpha Callum smiled. "Sure, anytime." Done chatting with the couple, Alpha Callum returned to his room in the mansion. Beta Amir and his men were already waiting outside the door. "You may go home now," he ordered. "Copy, Alpha." Beta Amir replied. Beta Amir and the men left the room. They went to the parking area, boarded their car and left the mansion. Back in the room, Alpha Callum picked up his bag and initiated teleportation in his mind, heading to the farm.
