My heart leaped into my chest. I felt like cold water was thrown at my face. Why would he bring that up right now? What an asshole!
I freed myself from his embrace quite abruptly, leaving him alone beside the window. He calmly arranged his shirt and a small smile appeared on the corner of his lips. “I must say that you made that evening much more entertaining than it had been until then.”
What nerve!
He stared at me, visibly amused, pulling the sleeves of his shirt back down. Suddenly, I realized that there was something far more unpleasant and demeaning than his words. Is that why he hired me? It would explain my sudden promotion. Is that what he had been waiting for from the beginning?
