Brandy Axel kept his distance, like he said he would, while I thought over my decision. Come the morning of the third day though, as Nate and I walked into the cafe shop where Brenda worked, I saw Axel lounging at our usual table. Three coffee cups and four apple muffins sat untouched in front of him. When he saw me, he perked up and waved us over. “I got us all a little something,” he said, passing one of the muffins to Nate as he took his usual spot at the table next to ours.
