Must be dinner time, Alex thought, letting the car idle as he watched Jamie stare out the window. “Well,” he said, loath to see the day end. He yanked up the parking brake and forced a smile that Jamie didn’t turn around to see. “Here we are.” “I hate this place,” Jamie whispered. “I don’t want to get out.” Alex sighed. “Jamie—” Suddenly Jamie kicked open the door and jumped out of the car, his anger returning. He slammed the door shut and began to storm off, heading for the shelter.
